“Relationships: Rules and Expectations”
“Duplicity and Thought”

ELIAS: Good morning!
NEAL: Good morning, Elias! Good to talk with you again.
ELIAS: And you also.
NEAL: We’ve been doing a lot of work together lately, it seems. (Elias chuckles) Just to get us started, I was wondering if you could offer me my essence name?
ELIAS: Very well. Essence name, Vasage, V-A-S-A-G-E (vuh SAHJ).
NEAL: It’s my understanding that by meditating upon this tone I will open myself to more of a connection with the wholeness within, but also with my other focuses.
ELIAS: Yes, you may engage this action as a focal point in allowance of yourself to be familiarizing yourself with you efficiently.
NEAL: Thank you very much.
ELIAS: You are quite welcome.
NEAL: In exploring the comments you made in our last session in regard to my altering my choices in regards to other people’s choices, I feel I’ve been in the midst of a flurry of feathers. (Laughs, and Elias chuckles) In that, one of the things I’ve looked at was all the birds just within my relationships, the belief system of relationships. What’s happened is I felt that I was in a period of time where I was going to be withdrawing from relationships to focus on this growing understanding which my work with you is clarifying, and yet at the same time I’m finding relationships seemingly coming out of the woodwork. It seems to be an ironic twist. I was wondering if you could comment on that.
ELIAS: (Chuckles) I may express to you, my friend, in actuality this is not so very ironic but actually quite common as a presentment to yourself of what you are exploring and addressing to.
I may express to you, in actuality this type of action occurs quite frequently in individuals within your physical focuses. For as you engage movement in a particular direction in exploration of any particular subject matter and addressing to the aspects of beliefs associated with that subject matter, you shall increase your presentment of imagery to yourself and you shall also allow yourself to be noticing more – and more clearly – the imagery that you are creating.
This in actuality is quite efficient in your individual movements, for it allows you the opportunity to genuinely examine your exploration and the influence of many, many aspects of beliefs associated with the subject matter. This also provides an avenue for yourself to become more familiar objectively with your behaviors, your automatic responses in relation to your beliefs, and the opportunity to examine your expressions and your associations with them.
In this subject matter, you are allowing yourself to explore and examine your beliefs and your automatic responses with regard to relationships in many different types of expressions, allowing yourself to view that relationships move in very similar manners regardless of how you define them or classify them or segment them in identifying them as different types of relationships. In actuality, you allow yourself to view the rules that you enforce upon yourself with respect to your beliefs concerning different types of relationships, and also the opportunity to examine the expectations and the different types of expectations that you create in relation to the other individual dependent upon the type or the classification of the relationship, which offers you a tremendous volume of information [in] familiarizing yourself with your beliefs and yourself and also your perception.
Therefore, I may express to you that your presentment of interactions and beliefs with regard to relationships in their increased volume and the increase in your noticing of the imagery is in actuality quite efficient in your movement presently.
NEAL: Thank you.
ELIAS: You are quite welcome.
NEAL: Your point about my rules and my expectations really clarifies for me what I’m going through.
ELIAS: In actuality, my friend, although individuals define within themselves – and you also – that you set forth or express rules in association with other individuals, you actually assign rules to yourself in relation to your behaviors and what you shall or shall not accept in relation to interaction with other individuals. You create expectations in association with yourself in regard to your rules; but in relation to other individuals and your interaction with them, the projection of rules is not genuinely expressed to them, but expectations are projected quite strongly in association with other individuals.
This is a significant creation to be allowing yourself to view. For as you project expectations with regard to any other individual, you also create a movement of potential for disappointment and open an avenue within yourself to be discounting of yourself.
NEAL: The movement of that, in what you just expressed, I’m very capable of.
ELIAS: Quite! For in actuality, my friend, in interaction with other individuals, as you project energy outwardly and you create your familiar associations and you express a discounting of the other individual or disappointment or blame or judgment, in actuality you are expressing those identifications in association with self. The other individual is merely a focal point, a projection point. For you divert your attention to the other individual, for it is less fearful and less uncomfortable to be projecting these expressions and associations to another individual than it is to turn your attention to self and examine these associations in relation to self.
I may express to you, in your terms and in alignment with your associations, it is much less painful to be expressing these types of projections outwardly in relation to another individual than it may be to associate them with yourself. There is great resistance to be turning the attention to self and examining the expression of judgment, disappointment, discounting, and blame that you express in association with self.
NEAL: I’ve certainly seen that. So as I turn that perceptual lens on myself, on my own judgments of myself, my own disappointments, my own discounting and blaming myself, that moves me into a greater acceptance.
ELIAS: Correct, for in allowing yourself to turn your attention to self, you open the door to choice. You allow yourself to unlock the box that you hold yourself within. You allow yourself new freedom.
For as you continue to hold your attention outside of self, you lock yourself into a box of limitations in automatic responses. Once you allow yourself to turn your attention and examine and view these expressions that you are actually creating inwardly in association to self, you also may examine the beliefs that influence those automatic responses, and the mere recognition of these beliefs that influence these associations and expressions inwardly allows you the opportunity to view choice. For although automatic responses are in actuality a choice, they also are familiar choices in repetition and pattern, and they are narrowed choices that merely follow the familiarity of your beliefs, which does not allow you the objective freedom to view and to know that you in actuality do hold the ability to create other choices.
Let me express to you my friend, this is a tremendous freedom. For you may allow yourself to view your beliefs and the influence of them and the automatic response that is generated in association with those beliefs, and you may not necessarily in a particular moment alter your choice. You may choose to continue to create the choice that is familiar, but you have also in that moment offered yourself a new freedom, for in that recognition you shall also KNOW that within any moment you hold the freedom to alter the choice if you are so choosing. You are not subject to the belief any longer. This is the movement of neutralizing the aspects of belief systems, which also is movement in acceptance.
NEAL: You’ve not only summed up the last two weeks that we’ve spent together but also clarified for me at least and opened up a deeper level to bring these understandings to. I want to thank you for that. As you’re speaking, I’ve tried to move with this energy into those areas where the resistance and the denial are.
ELIAS: I am understanding, my friend. Let me also offer to you information concerning beliefs, automatic associations, and thought. In this, you may allow yourself to examine, and [this] may be helpful in your individual movement as you continue.
For as I have expressed many times previously, the automatic association with individuals within your physical dimension in relation to beliefs is to be assessing whether a particular belief is good or bad, and once assessing whether a belief is good or bad, those that are identified as bad are to be automatically and immediately eliminated or changed. And as we continue in offering of information and discussion in relation to the acceptance of beliefs, individuals create intellectual thought-processes in which they express within themselves that they understand that the point is not to be changing or eliminating a belief but to be accepting of it.
Let me express to you, my friend, this continues to be a tremendous challenge within the expressions of many, many, many individuals throughout your physical dimension, for there is not yet a clear understanding of the action of acceptance. The automatic response is to be changing or eliminating, and in this, you reflect this as you continue your movement in relation to your thought processes now. For as you offer yourself more information, allow yourself to be noticing the strength of automatic responses and associations. For individuals now, yourself also, in offering yourselves information are moving your associations and your identifications in relation to duplicity with regard to thought also.
I have defined perception and attention and emotion, and your automatic associations in relation to duplicity with those terms now are positive. Your automatic association with thought in its redefinition is becoming negative, and your automatic response and movement in relation to thought is moving in an expression very similarly as you associate with your beliefs; and you now create a similar expression in relation to thought, attempting to change your thinking or eliminate your thinking or in your terms stop thinking, which is not the point either, any more so than to be changing or eliminating your beliefs. But as you begin creating an association with your thoughts in relation to duplicity and you express a negative judgment, your automatic response is to change that action or to eliminate it rather than allowing yourself to merely view and understand its mechanism and therefore accept and allow its movement in its natural design.
But allow yourself to recognize within this present moment how often within your identification of time framework of two weeks you have momentarily expressed to yourself a thought and automatically followed that thought with another thought that you should be changing your thinking, or that a particular thought is bad and therefore you need be altering it, you need be changing it or denying it and eliminating it: “Do not allow this thought process! Turn this into a positive accepting thought process!” This is not the manner in which the movement of acceptance is accomplished. Acceptance and allowance are accomplished in recognizing what you are expressing and what the influences and motivations are in relation to your expressions and your choices, allowing yourself the recognition of what you are creating and not expressing judgment.
I may also express to you, the judgments of good are equally as limiting as the judgments of bad, for they also create a narrow field in which you shall allow yourself to move. In actuality, I may express to you, many times your judgments of good are more limiting than your judgments of bad. For in your judgments of bad, many times you shall motivate yourself to seek out other avenues of expression. But as you create the judgment of good, you lock yourself into one singular direction and hold to that direction, and generally do not motivate yourself to deviate and explore any other choice in relation to what you deem to be good. Are you understanding?
NEAL: Unfortunately, yes. (Elias laughs) Well, you always get what you ask for, and if you ask for death you get it. So everything you described is what I went through just a few days ago, or at least the culmination of it where I successfully limited myself to the point where I just couldn’t get it. I couldn’t accept. This movement that you’re describing to me, it came to me, the choice and the acceptance and the allowance came to me during yoga class. But this subtlety that you’re expressing is just incredible.
ELIAS: Quite, and this is the importance and the significance of allowing yourself to pay attention to self, to pay attention to your thought processes, to pay attention to your communications that you offer to yourself, and to pay attention to the choices that you are creating, the direction that you generate. For all of these aspects of expression within you allow you to move your attention into an objective understanding of how you create your reality and how you may generate that in harmony. For in actuality, all of these aspects of yourself are designed in your physical reality to be moving in harmony. But as you create mis-definitions for these functions and you attempt to be altering the function of these aspects of yourselves, you create conflict.
NEAL: I’m pretty good at that!
ELIAS: Ha ha ha ha ha! And I may express to you, my friend, that you occupy good company, in your terms, for so also are many other individuals! (Laughing)
NEAL: I look forward to the time when I’m able to create with that ease.
ELIAS: (Laughs) You ARE creating the movement. Do not discount yourself atop of the discounting of yourself, for you are in actuality generating experiences and noticing, to allow yourself more of an objective understanding. I may express to you as I have to many individuals previously, without the creation of the experiences, all that I may express to you in information or explanation shall be concept.
NEAL: Oh, I know I’m not willing to settle for that.
ELIAS: (Chuckles) Therefore, you offer yourself the experience, and subsequent to the experience, you engage discussion with myself and you provide yourself with an avenue for explanation which generates understanding of the experience within yourself, and therefore you move the concept into an expression of reality.
NEAL: As I woke up this morning I heard the question, “Are you ready to begin?” (Elias chuckles) This is certainly providing insight into what that question meant.
ELIAS: (Chuckling) Quite! Ha ha ha!
NEAL: My essence expression, would that be thought? As we’ve talked about thought quite a bit.
ELIAS: Yes. You incorporate a thought focus.
Now; let me express to you my friend, individuals that express thought focus create different types of challenges in this movement that we have been discussing. For there is a natural language in which you speak to yourself through thought, and in that expression, individuals that incorporate a thought focus generate an expression of trust of thought. Other expressions may be at times viewed as suspect, for they are held in attention less.
In this, individuals that incorporate a thought focus also mis-define thought in itself, and define thought as a communication within themselves. As I have expressed, you also generate a trust of that which you define as a communication. Therefore, there is a different type of challenge – not necessarily a stronger challenge, but a different expression of challenge – within individuals that incorporate a thought focus in redefining the movement of thought and the function of thought, and the allowance of themselves to move their attention to actual expressions of communication. For as I have expressed, thought is not a communication.
NEAL: Could you define thought, then?
ELIAS: As I have stated previously, thought is a mechanism that you have incorporated in the blueprint of the design of your physical focus to be an interpreter. It translates and interprets objectively information that you offer to yourself through the avenues of communication that you incorporate. It is a function, a mechanism.
It is an efficient mechanism, but it in itself is a function and is not a communication. Its function is not communication. Its function is to be objectively translating and interpreting.
NEAL: So would you bear with me, then, and define communication?
ELIAS: Communication within the design of your physical focus is offered to you as an identification of what you create and how you create.
In this, you offer yourselves quite efficiently many avenues of communication, as I have expressed previously. Communication is an expression of what you may term to be input, information in association with what you create and how you create it.
Your thoughts are designed as, in a manner of speaking, an objective receiver. Communication waves are expressed and projected, and thought objectively receives and translates those expressions of communication into an objective identification, and this allows you an objective understanding and identification of what you are creating. It is a tremendous receiver of information concerning the movement and associations of your beliefs. (Pause)
NEAL: That is incredible. Is my essence perception soft?
ELIAS: This is the identification of orientation; yes, you are correct.
NEAL: Now, it was expressed to me earlier that we would be working together to increase the efficiency of the work that I do.
ELIAS: Which has already begun, my friend.
NEAL: It certainly has. My understanding is as I continue to work with the information that you offer, and I experience the support and your presence as I work with it, that that would just unfold naturally?
ELIAS: Correct, and I shall continue to be expressing and offering energy to you in conjunction with your individual movement.
NEAL: Thank you.
ELIAS: As you are already aware, you have already noticed the expression of support in the offering of my energy subjectively as you move through the expressions of your challenges.
NEAL: And I acknowledge and thank you for that.
ELIAS: You are quite welcome, my friend. (Pause)
NEAL: Is there ... you know, the information you offered today kind of makes the other questions that I had seem superfluous at the moment. (Elias chuckles) Is there anything that you’d like to offer before we...?
ELIAS: I may express to you merely to continue noticing your automatic responses, and in that noticing, my friend, practice not reinforcing discounting of yourself. Practice not expressing to yourself that you need be creating better, for this merely reinforces the discounting, and in actuality this type of expression creates an increase in the challenge and the difficulty that you express in the allowance of your own individual movement.
Allow yourself rather to reinforce to yourself the acceptability of all of your expressions, recognizing that they are not better or worse, that you are not striving to a goal. You are creating within the moment, and choices are merely choices. It is your association with duplicity that creates the identification of good and bad choices, or good and bad expressions. In actuality, they are merely choices, and your objective imagery is quite abstract; it is continually changeable. What holds significance is the direction that you create inwardly, for your reflection outwardly may be expressed as changeable as your tides.
You incorporate many, many, many species of fish within your seas, but they are all contained within the sea. View the sea as yourself inwardly and all of the fish are all of the changeable expressions of objective imagery. You may express thousands of types of objective expressions to offer yourself information concerning one movement that you create.
Therefore, pay attention inwardly, my friend. Pay attention to motivation, pay attention to your communications and to your choices, for this shall offer you the greatest expression of information objectively. And this is the point, to allow yourselves to objectively become familiar with how you create your reality and that you do create your reality, and therefore move yourselves into the objectification of this shift in consciousness, offering yourself tremendous new avenues of exploration and freedom. This is what I offer to you this day.
NEAL: And for which I’m incredibly thankful, and choose to accept.
ELIAS: Very well.
NEAL: Thank you, my brother.
ELIAS: I offer to you a tremendous expression of energy in love, and anticipate our continued interaction and our conversations.
