ELIAS: “The point of the exercise in clarity is to be allowing you the opportunity to be manipulating outer senses, which may also offer you more of an understanding of how to be manipulating inner senses more efficiently and to be using your inner senses in conjunction with each other as you use your outer senses in conjunction with each other, but you do not allow yourselves to be efficiently manipulating your OUTER senses, which you are quite familiar with!

“Therefore, I have offered that particular exercise that you may become more familiar with manipulating these senses that you hold familiarity with, and in this you may offer yourself the opportunity to more efficiently manipulate your inner senses, which shall be offering you more information within consciousness, and also, it shall be helpful to you in manipulating energy within the action of this shift.” [session 336, October 27, 1998]

ELIAS: “Practice in relaxation. Offer yourself practice with the exercise that I have offered previously concerning outer senses. You may be inquiring of Michael [Mary], if you are so choosing, concerning this exercise.

“This may offer you an avenue in moving your attention, and as you allow yourself to move your attention and become familiar with moving your attention outside of thought, you may allow yourself more of an ease to be practicing in relaxing and moving your attention to other expressions and not interrupting those directions with thought.” [session 994, January 22, 2002]

ELIAS: “Recalling our scenario of your television and its channels, you may find that you may gain many clues to your reality, where you direct your attention, and the expansion of awareness within that reality, by viewing other realities that you are aligned with. These would be, within your individual pools of probabilities, what you would term to be your own alternate focuses.

In the analogy of the television, we have stated that there are many channels that you may tune into. Within your present now, you also incorporate new technology which, as with all of your other technology, mirrors inner subjective expressions. This shall fit nicely into our analogy. These are new machines that you use in conjunction with your televisions. With these new machines, you may simultaneously be viewing a particular channel upon your television, and you may also be recording another program which is being transmitted upon another channel. Therefore, you are receiving two channels simultaneously. You also incorporate new technology to be viewing, simultaneously, different channels upon your screen, while taping or recording information of one channel not being viewed. Therefore, many actions are occurring simultaneously.

You may view the program which is being recorded as your subjective activity; that element of your subjective activity which you, in your terms, would view to be your subconscious, which we have stated, there is no subconscious! But this program, so to speak, runs parallel to your waking consciousness, your objective consciousness, that which you are attentive to.

In this, I shall be offering this evening an exercise, for it is difficult to be recognizing of alternate channels, and understanding the transmission which is occurring upon alternate channels, when you do not tune completely to the one channel that holds your attention. Your focus is blurred. You believe that your attention is directed and clear within the channel that you view; your objective attention; but you shall perceive soon just how blurred your attention truly is!

We have incorporated discussion of your outer senses, as you view them; their function and how you create them. Within this exercise, we shall be focusing upon these senses; for until you learn to tune your attention clearly, you will not understand the interaction that you may view within alternate channels. You may tune to these other channels, but they will appear even less clear and confusing to you than the channel that you are attentive to within your waking consciousness. Therefore, I shall direct you within an exercise.

I shall briefly first explain to you that just as we have spoken previously of the connections within consciousness of many individuals en masse, and how they are affecting of each other continuously, your alternate focuses are continuously affecting of your private personal expression. Within your individual pools of probabilities and alternate selves, you are continuously interacting and affecting of each other; just as the analogy was presented to you of the flower, and the color, and the greeting card. (1) Within different areas of location and different individuals seeming to be not connected to each other, they connect within consciousness and are affecting of each other.

In this same manner, very directly and continuously, your alternate channels are continuously affecting of you. You do not recognize this affectingness, but you do, at times, recognize elements which you would view to be out of the ordinary; small activities or noticings; small; that you ignore. These are each direct affectingness of alternate probabilities and selves; your other channels. They are translated differently.

You may incorporate one channel as a housewife, and within a daily scenario, you may be engaged in a very mundane activity of dusting. Within this activity, you merrily dust your house, and approach a stand upon which sits your family bible. Within one moment, you lift this bible to dust underneath the object, replacing it and continuing with your activity. Upon another alternate channel, a religious-focus program is running. The religious program has directly affected the action of lifting the book. This may seem not to be a profound affectingness, but it is a small example of the many, many, many activities and ways that each channel intersects with each other continuously, within every moment.

As I have stated, it is important that you view the one channel that holds your directed attention clearly. In this, I shall instruct you within our exercise. Within the beginning elements of this exercise, I shall be asking you to be holding your field of vision, not closing eyes; for you are tuning to this attention, this station, this channel. You are noticing and allowing clarity of this channel. Therefore, the purpose is not to be altering your state. In this, I will ask you to sit comfortably. (Pause)

Focus upon any given object within your room, but do not concentrate intensely upon this object. Allow for your vision to normally encompass the entirety of the room, with one main focal point. Do not strain and do not force yourselves to be concentrating very hard upon any given object. In this, now tune your consciousness to your senses. Notice your vision. Allow your vision to be as clear as it may possibly be. Tune to your hearing. Notice all of the sounds that occur. Many sounds are occurring that you automatically tune out and pay little attention to. Notice your body – your physical feelings, your body temperature. Notice your sense of touch. The air touches your skin continuously. Your clothing touches your skin. These are all elements that are a part of the clarity of your focus, to which you pay little attention to. Notice smells. You pay little attention to your sense of smell throughout your individual mundane day. Notice your sense of taste. You view that if you are not consuming something, you are not tasting anything. Your senses are highly tuned, and respond regardless. They incorporate continuous stimulation. You only choose to not be clear upon these senses.

Take a moment to concentrate, unstrained, upon the activity of all of these senses that you incorporate throughout every moment of your physical focus. (Here, there is a ninety second pause)

Now I will be instructing each of you to be closing your eyes and allowing your attention to drift. Do not be focusing upon your outer senses, so to speak. Allow yourself to feel comfortable and calm and quiet. (Here, there is a thirty second pause) Enough drifting!

You will notice that with your eyes closed, you will drift. You have experienced, within your attempts at meditation at times, difficulty in holding your focus. You experience, much of your time within your dream state, an inability to hold your focus and manipulate within that focus. This exercise of tuning your directed attention, your consciousness which is tuned to this channel, will be very helpful to you in instructional areas of developing your ability to be manipulating within alternate channels. Altered states, as you term these, are all alternate channels. If you hold the ability to consciously manipulate within the consciousness that holds your attention, you will more easily learn to manipulate and understand within alternate channels of consciousness.

Therefore, throughout this week, until our next meeting, I shall offer you the opportunity for what you would term to be homework! I shall be instructing you to be practicing this exercise three times within each of your days. You may incorporate this exercise at any given moment, for your eyes are open and you are attentive to all those individuals around you and also any activity that you may be engaging, for you are tuning your consciousness more clearly. You are not drifting. You are not placing yourself into an altered state. Therefore, this exercise will not be interrupting of your normal activity.

In this, incorporate one time for initiating this exercise within your evening time, while you are relaxed at your home, individually. Therefore, you may follow your directed ‘tuning in’ to your attention channel by closing your eyes and allowing yourself to drift. In this, while you are allowing yourself to drift, you may incorporate this action briefly, only within a time element to be noticing those events that are occurring. This may be color flashes. It may be feelings. It may be scenes. You may incorporate visualizations. You may incorporate mental images, as you term these. You may find yourself incorporating thoughts ‘slinging’ by you rapidly. Notice what occurs. Do not concentrate intensely upon the experience. It is only an exercise! It is unnecessary to be very serious and directed! (Humorously) You may incorporate this as fun, and it may be brief. It is not necessary for you to be setting aside hours of your time and very directedly concentrating on accomplishing! It is more important for you to be tuning consciously, eyes open, to the awareness that you are familiar with; for as you learn to be directed and manipulating within that directedness, you shall also learn to be directing within alternate realities.

I express to you that you may be manipulating within your clarity, for what you have experienced presently within this exercise is only noticing. As your week progresses and you are incorporating this exercise, you may attempt to manipulate these senses. Allow the clarity of your hearing, and then intentionally turn it off. Allow the clarity of your sense of smell, and then disengage. Allow yourselves the opportunity to view your own ability to manipulate your own consciousness and its functions, for in this you may much more easily recognize how to be manipulating when encountering different events within alternate focuses.” [session 122a, September 22, 1996]

ELIAS: “I shall ask you your perception of the exercises delivered to you, and their purposefulness. (Very directly, and a pause)

VICKI: For myself, I’ve had some difficulty with it. Purposefulness seems to be, for me, realizing how difficult it is to actually focus within waking awareness, because even when I try to do it, it doesn’t work very well. (Tongue-stumbling)

ELIAS: (Firmly) Engage your periphery! You continue to focus your attention singularly. The exercises being delivered to you are to widen your perception. I was explaining to you, the action of this recent exercise is clarity, directedness, an allowance for you to be realizing of your ability: your own awareness, your own directedness, your ability for manipulation within your own consciousness. The action is not to be tuning out! It is to be tuning in! Michael does not tune out within the energy exchange of this. There is a fine tuning in. You express, ‘If I may tune out, I shall be allowing greater reception.’ No! You tune in. (Whew! A bit intense!)

CATHY: ... In this exercise, if we’re supposed to, this is for clarity, and we’re supposed to like pick an object and keep it in our periphery, yet still view the whole picture, and then we’re supposed to feel what we’re feeling, and smell what we’re smelling, and taste what we’re tasting, and hear what we’re hearing, and then we’re supposed to tune it out ... I don’t get it! (Laughing)

ELIAS: I shall explain. First of all, the reason I express to you to choose an object is only that if I express to you, ‘Allow your visual to encompass the entirety of your field of vision,’ you distract yourselves automatically. Your attention automatically magnates to one area. If you have no focal point, you shall create one, but you shall also drift, from one to another to another to another. If I express to you, ‘Sit calmly and view your room,’ you shall focus upon a cushion. You shall move to an individual. You shall move to your lamp. You shall move to your draperies. You shall move to your table. You shall not direct your attention, and you shall confuse yourself. Therefore, I express purposefully, choose an object to focus upon, but do not focus upon this object. Focus upon your environment, but allow your vision, within a relaxed state, to focus upon an object not concentratedly. Within this action, allow yourself the clarity of your senses.

The objective, in tuning out an individual sense, is not to be defocusing or tuning out! It is to show yourselves that you do hold the ability to manipulate concentratedly and precisely. You hold the ability to be immaculately precise! Therefore you may tune, quite finely and clearly, all of your senses, and you may also teach yourself to manipulate these senses. Think of this exercise. If you cannot manipulate your own five, only, (laughter) senses physically, how shall you manipulate numberless senses and perceptions and focuses and memories and sensations and experiences within transition???

VICKI: I can’t even smell anything! (Cracking up)

ELIAS: A belief system! Therefore, this particular exercise comes to you not accidentally, quite purposefully, within your time element, to be coinciding with the action that you have subjectively chosen to engage. (Pause) As you learn to consciously manipulate your clarity within your own focus, within your own senses, we shall expand on the action of motion or manipulation of your consciousness; therefore allowing you more mobility within your periphery, and also within your directed attention.

Questions have been posed to Elias, for much of your time period, in the area of dream interaction. From the onset of our sessions, individuals have questioned how to be connecting within their dream state more efficiently. Now you have incorporated enough awareness to engage exercises that shall be very instrumental within your subjective movement, this encompassing also your dream state; which I cannot express to you, and emphasize enough, how important this state of awareness is to you, objectively as well as subjectively. Your ability to manipulate consciously through this area of consciousness and action shall be quite helpful to you, especially within the desire to be engaging transition…” [session 123, September 26, 1996]

GAIL: “I have confusion about the exercise. I used to use it for a different purpose, which was blurring and leaving, and I have been practicing it, but I go back to the emotional place of why I learned it in the first place, and I don’t know how to change it to make it different. Any suggestions?

ELIAS: First of all, I shall address to a misunderstanding of this exercise. What you have incorporated, within your focus thus far, is tuning out. The purpose of this exercise is not to be tuning out. The purpose of this exercise is to be turning in.

GAIL: I don’t understand that. I don’t understand turning in.

(Vic’s note: I think the word ‘turning’ was a slip of the tongue, probably as a result of the ‘interference’ we’ve been experiencing recently).

ELIAS: The reason you do not understand is that you have also, in your process, tuned out other elements of your focus. You have created a reality similar to an artist who has lost his appreciation for color. This is not something that is not retrievable. This exercise is an exercise in clarity. You have intentionally blurred your focus for your own intents and purposes within this focus.

There are many issues that you engage presently, which are all interrelated. In attempting to tune in to the clarity of your focus, you must also be realizing and accepting of your reality. These, thus far, are ideas. You think that you accept the concept that you create your reality, but if you are accepting of this in truth, then you also hold an understanding of your creation. In this, you do not hold feelings within your emotions that you would classify as negative to other individuals, for they have not created your reality. You have created your reality, for your own purposes and your own noticing and your own awareness. Therefore, you interpret this exercise as being similar in action to what you have incorporated throughout your focus.

In this, this brings forward issues that you also need be addressing within your attention, for you attempt this exercise in areas that you are familiar; tuning out. This was your interpretation; which you chose to interpret this exercise in this manner, in an attempt to allow yourself the opportunity to be bringing forward other issues that you may deal with simultaneously. As does Michael [Mary] also, you both move into areas and within your terms, ‘bite off more than a mouthful at one time,’ so to speak. You choose to plunge into many areas simultaneously. This serves to your benefit in one respect, in propelling your movement much more quickly, but also creates much confusion and conflict temporarily.

Within your desire to be moving quickly, you offer yourself the opportunity to view more than one aspect of your belief systems simultaneously. Therefore, you purposefully misinterpret the exercise, which will cause, in your terms, as there is no cause and effect, but in your terms, this causes you to view other belief systems simultaneously. You view still, within you, that you have been victimized. You hold anger to those that you view to be the perpetrators.

GAIL: On one level, I do. On another level, I don’t. And I constantly have conflict within myself about that.

ELIAS: Allow me to clarify. Your desire moves you to an area in which you allow yourself the ability to connect and understand the concept. This is not an acceptance, thus far, of the belief system. It is an awareness of reality, but the reality has not been accepted; which is not to say that what you accept is not reality, for it is. It is a different reality. You choose now to incorporate another reality. This, also in your terms, is not a new or recent choice. You have chosen, within what you view to be your past, to alter the course of this focus. You have chosen not to be continuing within your separation. You have also chosen, in this action, to be widening your awareness. In this, you engage many areas of consciousness that must become clear.

I have expressed to you all that this exercise is important. The reason that this exercise is important is that you must hold a clarity within your focus, within the focus of your attention, before you may clearly focus within other areas. It is important that you realize that now is all. There is no future. There is no past. It is a perception. All is occurring now. Your attention is focused here. This is your choice. You have chosen for your attention to be focused here. You look to what you perceive to be your future time as ‘better,’ for you shall propel beyond. You look to non-physical focus as ‘better.’ You interpret areas of consciousness as more natural, more fulfilling, more real.

GAIL: Well, to a part of me, it felt that way.

ELIAS: It is difficult to be explaining to you, within the limitations of your terms, concepts that incorporate reality, and also simultaneously to be offering you information that you may ‘fool yourself,’ which many do. If you incorporate feelings, and you interpret your reality through your feelings to your greatest extent, you are creating reality, but you may also ’sidestep yourself.’

GAIL: I don’t get this!

ELIAS: I wish you not to view that what you create is not reality, for it is; but within this reality, you look for a wider awareness, and you incorporate action to be widening your awareness. Therefore, within this desire, you move to areas that open your periphery and allow more subjective information to flow through. In this action, you hold familiar actions within your memory which are automatic creations. You attempt presently to move beyond these automatic, familiar creations, but you are familiar with these creations. Therefore, your emotions shall argue with you ...

GAIL: All the time!

ELIAS: ... and they shall incorporate confusion for you; for they attempt to propel you, in what you view to be a backward motion, into your familiarity. Within your desire, the intellect attempts to propel you, in what you view to be a forward motion, into unfamiliar. This exercise is unfamiliar. Therefore, you hold a desire to accomplish. The emotions express to you, ‘This exercise is familiar.’ It is not.

GAIL: Part of me understands that, and I want to know how not to do that.

ELIAS: First of all, be realizing that you are not disconnecting! This focus, this attention that you hold presently, is all that is; for your awareness is centralized within this focus, not the entirety of essence. You have successfully incorporated the action of unfamiliarizing yourself with yourself throughout this focus. Now, your desire is to familiarize yourself with yourself. In this, you require clarity. If you do not hold clarity in that which you know, you will not understand that which you do not know. In a lack of understanding of elements that you do not know, you automatically misinterpret and distort. You do not believe that you distort, but you do. You automatically translate into what you know. You do this continuously within your dream state. You visualize objects that are familiar. You visualize people that are familiar. You visualize scenes that are familiar. Very many occurrences within your dream state have no familiarity, within your terms. You interpret them this way. This is automatic. As you learn clarity within this attention, you will also learn to view reality within other focuses.

GAIL: In the last four years, I’ve viewed color and objects clearer than ever before. What is that purpose? Is that for this reality?

ELIAS: Yes.

GAIL: And so paying attention to all my five senses will become that clear in this reality?

ELIAS: Yes. The only purpose for instructing each of you to intentionally tune out a given sense is to allow you the opportunity to intentionally and purposefully manipulate your clarity. It is not to be tuning out.

GAIL: Okay. So it’s sort of like you have your television, and it’s fuzzy, and you’re just tuning it in, and that’s what we’re supposed to be doing with this exercise.

ELIAS: Precisely.

GAIL: And I’ve tuned out my whole life, so now I’ve got to learn to tune in ...

ELIAS: Precisely.

GAIL: ... and make it as clear as the color and the visual.

ELIAS: Yes.

GAIL: Okay. I’ll work in that avenue.

ELIAS: All of these individuals express truthfully when they are expressing, ‘This exercise is quite difficult.’ It is very difficult for you each, for you each defocus throughout the entirety of your lifetime, in your terms.

GAIL: So you mean I’m not the only one??? That blows me away!

ELIAS: You ‘desensitize’ yourselves to your focus. You hold your attention more and more narrowly. As children, you hold great clarity. You not only incorporate great clarity of only your senses, but of the entirety of your awareness. As you grow and align with belief systems and move through your focus, you desensitize yourselves to many elements of your consciousness, which is reflected the most obviously within your physical senses. This is where we begin, in a recognition that even those elements of your consciousness that are the most obvious to you, and are engaged daily and are used constantly, are defocused.

GAIL: I can remember at what ages it faded, at three, six, eleven, each one of those, it was like I lost touch with all of those senses.

ELIAS: Now you incorporate the action of clarifying, and pulling back your clarity. In this, as I have stated, you also engage belief systems; which, within your reality, are base belief systems, as is the common action with these other individuals also. Each holds base belief systems within different areas, but these belief systems are what you might term to be crucial to your movement; for these belief systems, engaged and accepted, are that which allows you to widen.” [session 125, September 28, 1996]

RODNEY: “I know of an individual, a teacher, who is connected with the old American Indian way and is a very remarkable teacher. And one of the things that he asks his students to do is to take cold showers in the morning, and this is a rather shocking experience! I’ve availed myself of this practice for the last three or four months, and one thing that it does do, it brings one into the here and now rather quickly and it propels one into action rather quickly. I was wondering if you would comment on the value of such an exercise.

ELIAS: This would be your choice to be participating in this type of exercise, but I shall be expressing an acknowledgment of this particular exercise in conjunction with the exercise that I have offered in clarity, for this exercise that you present yourself with is stimulating of your physical outer senses and brings to your attention the immediacy of your outer senses. It provides you with a clear awareness of your outer senses, which directs your attention to the now. Therefore, it is quite efficient as an exercise in presenting yourself with the reminder to be focusing your attention within the now and to be alert to your outer senses, for they are working in conjunction with your inner senses.

You may couple this exercise with the exercise in clarity that I have offered also, and in this manipulation of your outer senses, you may also be polishing your inner senses, that they may be providing you with more efficiency in their workings.” [session 309, August 22, 1998]

PAUL: “I do have another question about some information you’ve given on the inner senses, and it’s from session 162, and you say, ‘You have been offered exercises to exercise your empathic sense, your sense of conceptualization, and also your inner sense of tone and touch, this being what you have exercised with our example of clarity.’ That sort of confuses me, and I wonder if you would clarify, in the clarity exercise, the inner sense of tone and touch, what you mean by that? (Pause)

ELIAS: Tone is different from sound. Tone is a vibrational quality, and in this, your outer sense is a physical mirror image in its quality of connecting with sound. Within, in the inner senses, tone is the vibrational qualities that are held within consciousness, which you may access and this may offer you information to the different qualities of different expressions of essence, although this particular type of tapping into within inner senses is more difficult for your understanding, for this is requiring of more translation within your thought process, for if you are allowing yourself to be accessing in conjunction with your conceptualization, you may more easily be understanding what you are accessing.

Certain elements of consciousness are much more difficultly translated into your physical language. Your thought processes are also a form of physical language. It is a translation of energy, and this is your means of communication to yourself and to other individuals, within physical terms. But much of consciousness is expressed through tone, and this is not so very easily translated into your thought energy. Therefore, it is not as easily accessed, although it is possible and you do hold the ability within physical focus to be accessing this information.

The point of the exercise in clarity is to be allowing you the opportunity to be manipulating outer senses, which may also offer you more of an understanding of how to be manipulating inner senses more efficiently and to be using your inner senses in conjunction with each other as you use your outer senses in conjunction with each other, but you do not allow yourselves to be efficiently manipulating your OUTER senses, which you are quite familiar with!

Therefore, I have offered that particular exercise that you may become more familiar with manipulating these senses that you hold familiarity with, and in this you may offer yourself the opportunity to more efficiently manipulate your inner senses, which shall be offering you more information within consciousness, and also, it shall be helpful to you in manipulating energy within the action of this shift.

PAUL: Great. That was very helpful in terms of tone, Elias. That clears up your reference there in the sense of tone, but could you comment on the comment you made about tone and touch? Touch seems so physically focused. I can understand the word tone in terms of subjective state, but touch seems so physical. Is the word touch connected to an inner sense somehow?

ELIAS: Yes. This also moves in the direction of empathic, although it is slightly different from the empathic sense, for it moves more in the direction of the allowance of connection with other aspects of consciousness and other essences in mergence.

Just as within your objective physical terms, you look to your sense of touch as an expression of connection with another individual or any other object or element within your physical focus. Within inner senses, this also would be the case, but within the expression of mergence, which allows you to be accessing more information through experience. This may be, as I have stated, moved into in conjunction with your empathic sense and may be offering you more fullness in the area of experiencing other elements of consciousness, not merely other essences or other individuals as focuses of essence.” [session 336, October 27, 1998]

LEELA: “Okay. My next question is about what we were discussing last time, about my automatic writing and the tapping into the essence of Nicolai. You really made me very curious about that! (2) I would like to know of what essence family Nicolai is, and what exactly is the purpose of the cooperation of my essence with this essence.

ELIAS: The cooperation is to allow you more of a free flow in your own abilities in tapping into other areas of consciousness and allowing you a validation of these abilities, therefore also reinforcing your own acceptance of actions and events and elements that appear to be beyond your officially accepted reality.

This offers you more of an efficiency in your own expressions and allows you more of a freedom to move within your own expressions, realizing that you hold the ability to tap into other areas of consciousness and therefore you may also expand your explorations of consciousness, and you may also allow yourself to tap into more areas of information that may be beneficial to you. In this, I also shall express that this individual, while engaging physical focus, was of the Tumold family, and was holding an alignment with Milumet.

LEELA: Can you enlighten me on when this communication with my own essence and with this other essence will become more objective and efficient, and the same for me opening up my inner senses? I know I’m very impatient about it, but I’m really waiting for it to happen! How can I accomplish a more efficient objective communication and an opening of my inner senses?

ELIAS: Let me express to you that as you hold impatience, you are creating of the reverse action of which you seek. As you continue to allow yourself an anxiousness and an impatience in these areas, what you are in actuality accomplishing is holding to your energy and not allowing a free flow, relaxing your focus. As you allow yourself to relax your focus and merely be accepting of energy exchanges, you shall also be allowing this to be occurring more frequently, and in your terms within linear time framework, more quickly.

In this, I express to you that as you continue to concentrate your attention upon self and not necessarily upon these types of interactions and actions, the actions themselves shall present themselves more frequently, for as you are allowing yourself to concentrate your energy upon yourself and addressing to your own belief systems and also addressing to your own acceptance of self, this shall open a pathway, so to speak, for energy to be moving more freely, and in this, the expressions of energy exchange shall occur more frequently.

LEELA: Okay. Would an exercise like the clarity exercise be a good exercise to accomplish this, among others?

ELIAS: Quite. This also offers you more of a clearness within your objective perception, to open yourself in your abilities to your inner senses, for this offers you the recognition of your abilities – or your rustiness in your abilities (grinning) – in manipulating your own energy in objective terms with your outer senses. As you allow yourself to view how you do not efficiently manipulate consciously, in your terms – or intentionally, in your terms – your outer senses, and as you allow yourself to practice with the manipulation of your outer senses, you also begin to polish automatically your inner senses, and you begin to notice the actions and communications of your inner senses.

Let me express to you, it is quite difficult for you to be recognizing how you are engaging your inner senses if you do not recognize the action that occurs with your inner senses.

In like manner to your outer senses, if you are not paying attention to your fingers tapping against your table and your attention is focused elsewhere, so to speak, you shall not be noticing the sensation that is occurring within the tips of your fingers in your sense of touch; which, in objective terms, this may seem quite silly to you, for you may express to yourself, ‘How may I not be noticing of my sense of touch if I am touching an object?’ But I express to you that it is quite common that you may be touching and experiencing your sense of touch and NOT NOTICE.

Do you notice your sense of touch and the sensation that it is creating as you are sitting within your chair and all of the areas of your physical body that are touching of your chair? No! You merely are sitting within your chair, and not paying attention and noticing your sense of touch. This is a clear example of the automatic-ness of your senses, inner and outer, that you do not notice.

In like manner, your inner senses are moving and communicating a different type of sensation continuously, but you are not noticing the messages that are being communicated to you. Therefore, if you are practicing your exercise in clarity, this may sensitize you much more to your outer senses and offer you information to be connecting to your inner senses more efficiently.” [session 351, January 03, 1999]

DON: “... I had a dream Thursday night, which was an unusual day for me as it was. When I woke up, just as I was waking up from the dream, I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Ask her if you were John Merrick,’ John Merrick being the name that Joseph Merrick is more known by now.

Earlier that day I’d come to the realization, since reading your material, I’ve been trying to watch myself for the times I discount myself. When I catch it, I just try to look for the beliefs and remind myself that it is a belief and can feel that. But on Thursday I realized that I believe I’m insignificant. For the first time, even now, I know I don’t really accept that or believe that is a belief. I don’t see that as a belief.

I look at it from any direction – I’ve got the number of focuses and essences that must exist in the universe and I think, ‘How can one be significant?’ I look at links of consciousness as being created all the time, and I think, ‘If one link were to disappear, why would that be significant?’

So, I can see how this belief colors all of my objective existence. If somebody cuts me off in a car, I think they’re telling me I’m insignificant. I wonder if you could say something to help me see that as a belief rather than as the truth.

ELIAS: I may express to you, this is partially influenced by the belief of separation, which generates a specific expression in relation to perception.

Now; in this, as you separate and you view each focus, so to speak, as an entity, or you view essences as entities or you view any manifestation as an entity separated as a thing in itself, it is understandable that you may generate a perception in which you express the insignificance or the smallness of one manifestation. This, as I have stated, is quite in association with perception.

Now; this also is the reason that I continuously am offering information to individuals concerning perception, for this is what generates your actual reality. It is influenced by your beliefs, but perception defines all that you view and your associations with what you generate, what you view, what you create, HOW you view reality and all of the facets of reality.

Now; in this, the expression of separation is relative to this physical dimension and is a very powerfully expressed belief. One manner – which I have incorporated in example previously in allowing individuals to attempt to perceive this expression of separation differently – is to view yourself as an individual. You are familiar with your expression of yourself in this one focus as an individual. You are familiar with the identity of this one manifestation.

Now; without overwhelming yourself, concerning yourself with all of the expressions of consciousness, all of the essences, all of the focuses of attention that one essence incorporates, merely allow yourself to view yourself as one individual.

Now; in viewing yourself, allow yourself to recognize and perhaps investigate the concept of attention or the expression of attention.

Now; as yourself, you may move your attention in many directions simultaneously. You may incorporate many expressions, many actions, many directions in relation to attention simultaneously. Correct?

DON: Well, it’s interesting that you say that, because I’ve been trying the attention exercise that you mentioned before, paying attention to all my outer senses as simultaneously as I can. I’ve become very aware in trying to do that how difficult it is not to have my attention on one specific part of the input from one sensory modality. I’ve been working on trying to enlarge my attention.

ELIAS: I am understanding, but this is an intentional movement. This exercise is expressed to allow you to view how you do NOT focus your attention, and allow you to become familiar with intentionally focusing your attention and manipulating your attention and therefore also manipulating intentionally what you generate.

But in your daily expressions, you do allow many facets of attention to be occurring simultaneously. There is tremendous input that is being generated within your daily expression. You may be listening to a broadcast or to music and not fully holding your attention upon the input of the music but incorporating awareness of that expression. You also are incorporating visual input. You may be in an environment in which, hypothetically, you may be reading a book and around you may be other individuals engaging conversation, and perhaps in what you term to be the background there may be music playing. There may be action and sounds from your street that are being generated. There may be differences in temperature, which your attention may move to and slightly notice. You may also incorporate a feeling of hunger or thirst, which your attention moves to briefly.

All of these expressions may be occurring at the same time, and your attention, although it may be focused more upon the action of reading the book, is moving and recognizing and noticing all of these other expressions that are occurring, for you in actuality are generating them. You are creating all of these expressions through your perception. You are creating the other individuals, the vehicles upon the street, all of the sounds, the differences in temperature, the movement about you, and your communication concerning whether you are experiencing hunger or thirst, all in the same moment.

Now; each of these expressions as noticed incorporates a movement of attention, and this is the key: none of these expressions lessen you as an individual. All of them are merely movements of your attention, but none of them change who or what you are. Correct?

DON: Correct.

ELIAS: Now; in similar manner, you are essence, and what you recognize as this physical manifestation is one attention of essence. Any attention is not diminished by any other expression of attention. Is your recognition of your feeling of hunger any less significant or important than your action of reading the book?

DON: No. I say ‘no’ in that I don’t even make that kind of judgment between them.

ELIAS: Precisely! For they are merely different expressions, but they are all aspects of you. They are different expressions, and your attention moves to recognize these different expressions of you. In similar manner as essence, the attentions are all being incorporated simultaneously, and one is not more significant than another. They are merely different expressions, and they are all occurring at the same time.

Now; as essence, in widening your awareness you may allow yourself to recognize that each attention is significant, for each attention is an expression of essence. It is not a part, just as your expression of hunger is not a part of you that you may separate from yourself as a separate entity and physically locate it in another position. It is an expression of you. In similar manner, you as a physical manifestation may not be separated from essence, for you ARE essence. It is merely movement of attention.

Now; within the design of this physical dimension, there is a strongly expressed belief of separation and singularity, which is tremendously influencing of your perception and therefore your perception generates singular entities. You generate a singular body consciousness; you create singular separate objects; you even generate singular movements – or a perception of singular movements – within the expression of your physical reality. But this is a belief. It is expressed, or has been expressed, purposefully to allow each attention its own purity of experience. But as you choose to be moving in conjunction with this shift in consciousness, you are also allowing yourself – as [is] every other individual – to be recognizing these beliefs and accepting them, and therefore offering yourself the freedom of choice. But what holds significance in this scenario, my friend, is the perception that you generate of insignificance of any aspect of attention, which you are!” [session 1069, April 30, 2002]

ELIAS: “What do you identify as your own truths?

KC: Elias, this is KC. Could we just take a small local truth of mine?

ELIAS: Very well.

KC: Expressway noise – the expressway is very close to my house, and when I moved into the house I don’t remember hearing the expressway noise. Then a few years ago, I’m getting tenser and more tense and more tense, and finally ... I wasn’t really noticing what it was, and then I noticed this whine. You probably heard it at this hotel. The expressway is right here, and I live right around the corner.

So I go over what I know about creating my reality. Therefore, I am creating the entire expressway, the cement, the tires, the cars, the people driving the cars, the location of my house, the distance, the wind, the median strip that’s cement – which, of course, is what I blame on the sound. (Laughs) So I’ve been trying to think, okay, my attention lies in the trust of this truth that when the cars go by they are going to generate this noise and the wind’s going to carry it to my house and I’m going to hear it; but now I don’t know how to move my attention if I want to create that differently. Is that an example of a truth?

ELIAS: Yes!

KC: Because that’s an absolute to me.

ELIAS: Yes, and this is not what you qualify as small.

KC: No, it’s not to me!

ELIAS: For none of your truths are small. (Laughter) They are absolutes and they are challenging.

Now; remember, you are not eliminating beliefs, and this is also one of your snares, for you automatically move into an association of eliminating. You do not allow yourselves the objective understanding that you may continue to express a belief and not be affected, or that you may continue to express a belief but choose how you manipulate your energy and how you create what you want, continuing to express the belief.

Now; this is an example, for this is an absolute with you, that the sound is generated by the vehicles and it is close to your dwelling and therefore you hear it. You may continue to incorporate that information and that belief as an expressed belief that the vehicles generate sound and the vehicles in relation to pavement generate sound and the larger the vehicle the larger the sound; you may continue to hold that belief and move your attention.

Practice distraction. I have expressed this many times and I shall reiterate once again, distraction is one of your greatest tools and it is efficient. You continue to be expressing the tension, for where is your attention? Upon the sound.

KC: Upon the vibrations of the sound, yes.

ELIAS: Correct! And as you continue to concentrate upon that vibration, you continue to perpetuate it.

Now; in distraction, you automatically interrupt your attention and you automatically move your attention. This is the reason that this is one of your greatest tools, for it is easy and it requires little effort and no thought. You need no method and you need no plan to distract yourself. You may incorporate a myriad of actions to be distracting of yourself.

Now; in the distraction, notice how your attention moves and the sound disappears.

KC: All I have to do is be talking to somebody else and paying attention to the conversation and it always goes right away, and I notice that. But when I notice that, I move my attention right back to the noise and I say, ‘Oh, yes, it’s still there.’ (Laughter, and Elias grins) I haven’t done anything, because it’s still there.

ELIAS: Ah! Now; this is significant also, for this is an expression that you all incorporate, of generating an actual change in your perception and changing your reality, [then] reincorporating the previous annoyance and discounting yourselves and expressing to yourselves that you have not accomplished anything – but you have. You have moved your attention, you have created differently, but you do not allow yourselves to acknowledge that, and therefore you return to the familiar.

KC: Can I ask another question? (Elias nods) I was wondering the other day about this. I can distract myself in speaking with a friend in the backyard and we’re not hearing the noise, and I’ll look at her and grin and she’ll grin, because she knows it’s about the noise, then I move my attention to the expressway and I hear it again. So I was wondering, can I move my attention to the expressway and not hear it?

ELIAS: Yes.

KC: Okay, you want to talk about that? (Laughter)

ELIAS: Practice the exercise of outer senses.

KC: The clarity exercise, where you go through your outer senses and place yourself right here in the now...

ELIAS: Yes, and concentrate your attention on ONE sense and tune out the other senses.

KC: And that does work! Because what I did was I concentrated on my sense of touch and there was a cricket over there, and then where did it go? My sense of hearing completely left and I forgot what the other senses even were! Because I could feel everything, and that was it. Oh my god! It works! (Laughter) Elias, you certainly know all the tricks!” [session 1447, September 27, 2003]

MARKUS: “One of the topics that I would like to revisit is the way of paying attention to oneself and creating signals. One of the signals I am repeatedly creating to myself is that I’m creating reality in the form of or multiple forms of external noise, like construction sites popping up under my window or in the next house, and (inaudible) do it in the house behind that, and also having bars and restaurants in the area where I live where they at times play very loud music. If those are not so loud, the neighbors will start to turn up their music or will have more parties in their court.

I’m having a bit of a hard time to come to terms with that, because on a normal objective level it sounds like these guys all around me are making all that noise. I have noticed the consistency in which this kind of noise appears, like one construction site closed and then another opened. One of the bars is pretty loud, and if I go down to them and ask them to be not so loud in the future, someone else in the house next to ours or in the same house will start to play loud music.

I think there’s some sort of communication here which I’m just not yet understanding.

ELIAS: (Chuckles) I may offer the suggestion to you that you incorporate practicing with the exercise in clarity that I have offered previously.

MARKUS: I’m aware of that, yes.

ELIAS: For what you are presenting to yourself is another example of what we were discussing previously. Many, many, many individuals perceive that they do not create the element of their reality that manifests in money, as we have discussed. You do not concern yourself with that particular manifestation, but there are other manifestations that you may present to yourself that you do not perceive you are creating, and therefore other individuals are creating it. Therefore, other individuals are creating certain elements of your reality.

In practicing with the exercise in clarity, you allow yourself to realize objectively that you do incorporate the ability to manipulate your reality in different manners. It allows you to recognize that you actually do incorporate the ability to manipulate your actual senses, and if you can manipulate your actual senses, this reinforces your trust of your ability to be actually creating your reality. In a manner of speaking, it allows you a type of sense of control. It is not actually control, but it moves you out of the role of victim and offers you more of a sense of empowerment that you do incorporate the ability to manipulate whatever is being generated in your reality.

It is not an accident that you are generating this volume of noise, for that DOES incorporate your attention! (Laughs)

MARKUS: I have played with this exercise in clarity already and found that at times I am, for example, able to move my attention to a book and sort of get lost in that book in a way that I’m not hearing those noises anymore. But at the same time, I’ve found that manipulating the hearing sense for me is one of the hardest things to do of all. If I have a physical pain, it’s not so much of a problem to move the attention away from that in the same way as it is for hearing.

ELIAS: And therefore I repeat my suggestion that you allow yourself to practice. (Laughs)

MARKUS: What’s also amazing is how hard the exercise in clarity actually is.

ELIAS: It is quite challenging.

MARKUS: I’ve been trying the objective part, like noticing everything that comes in through the senses while I was walking in the park or doing stuff like that, and I find myself almost unable to do that just for sixty seconds in a consistent way.

ELIAS: It is a challenging exercise to be incorporating, for your outer senses are quite automatic. You generate many automatic responses in association with these senses. It is unfamiliar to allow yourself to actually manipulate them, for you incorporate the perception that they are almost independent of you, that they are things, in a manner of speaking, and that they generate their own experiences being things – but they are not. They are expressions of you. They are avenues of communication, and you can manipulate those avenues of communication. You do with other avenues of communication. You may be quite efficient at times at manipulating the emotional communications – and ignoring them! (Both laugh)

MARKUS: I hear you! The thing that I find hardest is basically to consciously keep the attention in one place because of all of the sort of impulses that come through the senses in the form of sensual information. It’s amazingly hard to just stay with the attention on the data that the senses bring in or which I create through the senses and not bouncing off to thoughts related to that, and in the same moment ignoring further data that’s coming in through one of the senses until some stronger signal comes in through yet another sense, and then that starts to move the attention to a different place, be it in the past, present or future. It’s just like a pinball flipper machine, bouncing around all the time, and keeping that steady is amazingly hard.

ELIAS: (Laughs) But it also offers you evidence of how flexible your attention is and how easily it may move.

MARKUS: Yes, and how easily it may be manipulated through someone else.” (Elias chuckles) [session 1629, September 18, 2004]

ELIAS: “I have offered the example of an individual viewing a flower, and another individual across your continent viewing a greeting card with a flower upon its face; this being a direct connection within consciousness of an action which is affecting of both individuals. (2) Paul’s note: here’s the excerpt from a previous session in which Elias identified Leela’s interaction with an essence named Nicolai:

LEELA: “Recently I have been having these automatic writing experiences. Is this a communication with essence, and will this be developing so that it will become clearer to me?

ELIAS: Interesting situation that you have been presenting yourself with! Let me express to you that what you are tapping into are two different elements, depending upon the time framework and the openness and the framework, so to speak, that you are placing yourself within. Now; let me offer an explanation in this area.

At times you are tapping into a communication of essence, which would be the communication that you are allowing to be objectively surfacing through, so to speak, between yourself – the focus – and your own essence.

Now; at other time frameworks, your state of awareness or direction of attention, in a manner of speaking, slightly alters and turns. What this is creating is your own allowance to be tapping into a different type of experience and expression.

Therefore, you may notice at times a slight difference in the tone of information that you receive within this action of automatic writing. The information may present itself slightly different in one situation, as in difference to another situation.

The reason for this is that at times you are not necessarily accessing your own essence and a communication from your own essence, but are tapping into a world view of another focus of another essence and allowing that information to present itself also.

Therefore, you may be noticing, if you are paying attention, that you may be offering yourself in this experience of automatic writing a certain line, so to speak, of information, and at times there may be a deviation in this information and it may present itself slightly differently. This may be your indication that you have ‘switched channels,’ so to speak, (chuckling) and in this altering of channels, in a manner of speaking, you have turned your attention to be tapping into information of the world view instead of the communication of essence. Are you understanding?

LEELA: Yes. So, sometimes I’m tapping into the world view of another focus of another essence. Can you tell me what essence and what focus that would be? Is that one particular focus, or are there different focuses?

ELIAS: This would be of one particular essence, but at times would be slightly different focuses of world views of that essence.

Let me explain to you that each focus of an essence holds its own individual world view, but within these world views, these are energy deposits within consciousness that offer a philosophy, so to speak, and in this they offer different elements of information.

What you are allowing yourself to be tapping into is information that moves in a similar direction of information that you offer to yourself through your own essence, and this adds depth to the information that you receive through your own essence. It also offers you a wider view of the information that you receive.

Now; the essence that you tap into ... I shall offer you an identification of tone with this essence, although this essence objectively may be unfamiliar to you, but in this identification of tone, you may also hold an element of ringing in this direction. The translation of the tone of that particular essence is Nicolai.

There are different focuses of that particular essence that you tap into and this is not of tremendous importance, but the identification of the essence itself may become important to you futurely, in certain aspects. This is not to say that this identification holds great importance, but may be helpful to you in your validation to yourself of the reality of this communication that you hold with this particular essence.

As to your questioning of, ‘Shall this be developing further and be continuing?’ within the probabilities that you are moving into presently, you ARE establishing a type of communication with that particular essence in conjunction with your own essence.

In this action, if you are so choosing and if you are allowing yourself to be opening your awareness more, you may be developing in this area and expanding your own abilities, not merely limiting your abilities of communication with that essence or your own essence to the action of automatic writing, but may be moving into more direct interaction in a much more objective expression and awareness.” [session 340, November 15, 1998]
