ELIAS: “You hold these belief systems and their natural byproducts of intolerance and judgment for you do not accept and trust yourselves; for if you are trusting and accepting of self and eliminating the duplicity, you shall not hold a reason to be expressing through these belief systems, whose natural byproducts are intolerance and judgment. This is extremely difficult for you. I acknowledge this, for within your creation you align with belief systems very strongly. They are automatic. You hold very deep issues that you have created throughout your focus.” [session 160, March 30, 1997]
ELIAS: “Do not misunderstand that I advocate lack of concern or caring for all other individuals, but you may not hold true concern for other individuals until you hold true worth and concern for yourself; for if you do not value self, you may not value anything else. In this, you hold a portion of value for self. That is why you hold duplicity. You hold both ideas of self; that of trustful and that of not trustful. That element of self that you do place some amount of trust within allows you the ability to project outwardly to other individuals a caring and concern and trustfulness; but you shall find that within you, given the opportunity, this shall be dashed quite quickly in the face of the distrustfulness, for this you hold more strongly. All elements of your societies reinforce this.” [session 170, May 02, 1997]
ELIAS: “Duplicity is the curse of your present age. Your globe is plagued with this belief system of duplicity, which is so very unnecessary!” [session 180, June 03, 1997]
ELIAS: “[Duplicity] is the belief system that is the most greatly creating of judgments, and positive and good is also a judgment. It is opposing bad or negative. It is no less a judgment than what you perceive to be unacceptable. It also is a very insidious judgment, and this is the camouflage of duplicity, for it is quite changeable. It is quite acclimating to all of your camouflages, to all of your belief systems, to all of your thoughts and feelings, and may mold itself in many different manners that may be quite deceiving.” [session 328, October 03, 1998]
ELIAS: “Guilt, I shall express to you – as I have expressed many times previously – is one of the two manifestations of energy within this physical dimension that you express that may be the most closely associated with a waste of energy. In actuality, there is no waste of energy. Therefore, I may not express to you definitively that the expression of guilt is absolutely a waste of energy, for no energy expression is wasted, so to speak.
“But I shall express to you, were there any expression of a waste of energy, the expression of guilt and worry would be those. These two expressions of energy serve merely to perpetuate the belief system of duplicity. They reinforce all that you identify as negative.
“They reinforce the expression of a discounting of self, a lack of acceptance of self, and they create an expression of devaluation of worth, which – in a manner of speaking, figuratively speaking – is an expression which is contrary to consciousness and essence.
“I am not expressing that it is not a creation that may serve or that has served as beneficial to you within this physical dimension within different moments of your history, but I shall express to you, within consciousness, were there to be an expression of an unacceptable manifestation of energy, these expressions would be [the ones].” [session 510, December 04, 1999]
ELIAS: “And what I am expressing to you now is that there is no better. This is entirely a design and an illusion which is set forth through the influence of an aspect of the belief system of duplicity.
“You are already best. You are already creating perfectly. Your beliefs are influencing your perception of yourself that you are not creating perfectly, and therefore you create judgments, and this sets in motion a very large wheel which moves quite rapidly, and it continues to turn and turn and turn, for as you create the judgment, you also reinforce the duplicity, which expresses once again to you that you are not adequate enough yet, that you could be creating better, that you will be experiencing no conflict at all IF you are creating better.
“ALL of these expressions are influences of duplicity. ALL of these expressions camouflage the now and camouflage your perception, dictating to it that you are presently not adequate enough, not good enough, and not perfect.
“And therefore, in the influence of that belief, as it dictates to your perception, you create an actual reality in which you view yourself to not be accomplishing perfectly yet, and you reinforce this and reinforce this and reinforce this with judgment and the continual perpetuation of viewing that you need be creating better.
“I shall express to you what shall be better – what shall be better would be for you to be eliminating the word ‘better’ from your language! HA HA HA!” [session 619, May 25, 2000]
ELIAS: “I am expressing to you not figuratively but quite literally and in intensity, these belief systems that you hold within this reality physically are very strong!
“They are immensely powerful, and this particular belief system of duplicity is not merely powerful, and not merely is it expressed within itself, but as I have offered many times in [this] information, it – in a manner of speaking – attaches itself to every other belief system and intertwines itself in EVERY expression of your physical reality.
“You create an assessment upon every movement, every moment, every choice that you engage within your physical reality in relation to duplicity. You either assess that your action is good or it is bad. It is acceptable or it is unacceptable. It is better or it is worse.
“This is the tremendous camouflage of duplicity, and it is intensely strong.” [session 619, May 25, 2000]
ELIAS: “I am not discouraging of any individual in their experience, regardless that they define it as good or bad, but merely expressing to you each that the expression is the same. It incorporates judgment in either direction, which is not to say that your experiences shall cease to incorporate preference or a lack of preference as you eliminate the judgments, but that you allow yourselves to recognize in relation to yourselves and to other individuals that the judgment of ‘good’ is equally as affecting as the judgment of ‘bad.’
“... This is not to be discounting of your movement and your experiences and your allowance of yourself to be widening your awareness, but you may be creating that action and be experiencing pleasure and be allowing yourself the engagement of preference but not creating the judgment, for there are many underlying snares which are also created in association with each of these judgments, be they good or bad. For you also create automatic associations in relation to your judgments of good, which you place strategically within your movement as a type of snare that lies in wait for your own movement in new directions to be once again creating the familiarity of the discounting of yourself.
“Let me express to you, my friend, individuals are quite creative and inventive within physical focus in time frameworks in which they are creating an ease in their movement but are associating that ease and the experience of their preferences and pleasure as good, for you hold very strong beliefs and associations with the temporariness of those types of movement and the lack of lastingness or the lack of strength of durability in this type of expression.
“Time frameworks and experiences that you label or define as ‘good’ also become automatically associated with fragile, and therefore there is created an underlying suspicion, just as you have expressed in this conversation of your own wondering whether you shall be futurely moving into ‘your turn’ of experiencing the difficulties. That is an automatic expression which is created within you ALL in strength, which is the snare which lies in wait for your own movement to turn, and in this, your movement as it turns may be a new expression of exploration and may be offering you new expressions of freedom and pleasure and preference; but merely in the turn of movement, you may spring the snare that you have already created in automatic association of the fragileness of the good experience and time framework.
“... This be the reason that I draw attention to the expression of duplicity in judgments created in the identification of good in equal measure to those of bad or those of right in equal measure to those of wrong, for they hold equal strength.” [session 808, March 29, 2001]
ELIAS: “Remember, duplicity also is a belief system. Therefore, as you recognize that you are expressing judgment, do not compound the judgment with judgment! (Laughter) But recognize in the moment that it is expressed, and accept this. (Pause)
“For, my friends, the more you practice offering yourself acceptance of what you express, even in judgment, the less you create judgment, for the more familiar you become with acknowledging yourself and validating yourself and accepting yourself, and the less frequently you express the judgments.” [session 938, October 27, 2001]
KEITH: “Elias, can you make the distinction between judgment and a belief system? I’m kind of picking up that judgments are bad, whereas you can’t get away from belief systems but judgments... You’re saying if we’re aware of a belief system then we wouldn’t be judging?”
ELIAS: “Not necessarily! You may be quite aware of beliefs that you express, beliefs that other individuals express. You may incorporate the ability objectively to be identifying many different beliefs and what belief systems they are associated with, and understand conceptually what is being expressed and that they are beliefs; but beliefs are quite real.
“In this, what I am expressing to you is not an eradication of judgment entirely, for that would be an elimination of the belief system of duplicity. The belief system of duplicity intertwines itself with every other belief, and it is an assessment of good and bad, of right and wrong.
“Now; what you are moving into in acceptance is not that you shall discontinue to incorporate your individual opinions concerning right and wrong or good and bad, but that they are relative to you and the recognition that they are not absolutes, and this is the key. For what you generate in the judgment that I am speaking of is an expression of absolutes in accordance with these rights and wrongs and goods and bads, that it is not merely applicable to you but that it is an absolute that is expected of what you term to be everyone and everything, that your reality moves in a particular manner and that it must move in a particular manner, that the manifestations in it, the movements in it are absolute and unchangeable, and that it is expressed throughout your universe in a particular manner that is what it is which is outside of you – that there is some reality outside of your reality, an official reality that is not your individual reality but a bigger reality, that is the guiding reality and that is the absolute reality. That is what you are striving to attain, this absolute real reality in which the truth resides, and there is no other reality.
“There is the reality that each of you generates, and that is the official reality. That IS the real reality, and no other power is setting its rules or guiding it greater than you. There is no outside manipulation.
“Therefore in the appreciation and the value of every individual – for every individual is an expression of essence, of consciousness; every individual is equally as valuable as every other individual; none are more valuable and none are less valuable – and in that, if every individual is unique and valuable and an expression of consciousness, and if every expression of consciousness in that value is worth in equal measure, how may you determine what is absolutely right and what is absolutely wrong, or what is absolutely good and what is absolutely bad?
“Not one individual within this forum presently this day incorporates all of their focuses as what you now in this present moment would consider to be moral, good, ethical individuals. Regardless of how right you view yourselves to be now, you all incorporate some scoundrel within your focuses. And why? For you choose to be engaging this physical reality to explore and to experience, and if your purpose is to experience, why shall you not choose a tremendous variety of experiences?
“Let me express to each of you – for I remember and am quite pleased with the remembrance! – I may express to each of you that those scoundrels, those knaves, those individuals that you view to be dark and evil are quite colorful, and they perceive themselves to be quite right also and would view you to be quite wrong; for this is what motivates all of you, your rightness in whatever you do. And the scurvy knaves believe themselves to be quite right also and within their rights to be generating whatever choices and actions that they incorporate. They do not view themselves to be scoundrels; they do not view themselves to be wrong. They view all other individuals to be wrong, as many of you do now. ‘It is not I that am wrong – it is the rest of the world!’
“The rest of the world is not wrong, either. You merely incorporate differences in your perceptions, and this motivates you in different actions. The significance is to recognize that your rightness in whatever you generate is associated with your truths, and your truths are not wrong but they are YOUR truths, and they are not absolute to your world.” [session 1496, January 17, 2004]
ELIAS: “Now; let me express to you, I have expressed many times previously that in shifting you shall not be expressing the judgments in the manner in which you have previously. But as I have also expressed many times, you are not eliminating ANY beliefs or any belief systems. Duplicity is a belief system also. Therefore, you are not eliminating duplicity; therefore, you are not eliminating judgment. You are changing it.
“Now; this is not changing a belief, and it is not changing the belief system. It is changing your perception through widening your awareness. As I have expressed from the onset of these sessions, even in being entirely shifted, so to speak, you shall continue to incorporate your preferences and your opinions.
“Now; previously many individuals viewed that statement to be a contradiction in association with judgment, for opinions express judgments, and preferences also express judgments, good or bad. But what you are doing in widening your awareness and in becoming intimately familiar with yourself and generating an acceptance of self and of your beliefs, recognizing your truths and the influences of them, is that you are moving into an understanding of your own individual guidelines, which are your opinions and your preferences. These are the guidelines that you incorporate in association with your choices, with your individual behavior, what you choose to engage and what you choose not to engage.
“But in the acceptance, there is a recognition that whatever your truths are, whatever your preferences are, whatever your opinions are, they are relative to you. They are not absolutes, they are not necessarily true, and therefore, they are not necessarily applicable to other individuals.
“In this, as you begin to generate a genuine understanding and awareness of this within yourself, you begin to express an acceptance of difference – which is not an expression of ignoring difference or being indifferent to difference, but genuinely being accepting of difference in genuinely knowing that another individual may choose differently, may incorporate different preferences, may move in different directions and display different behaviors from yourself, and they may be of a type that you do not prefer and therefore you dislike, but you accept them. It is not necessary to be expressing agreement to express acceptance.
“... Therefore, what you shall notice in what is changing is not that you shall not incorporate any judgment of any expression at all, is not that you shall be entirely neutral, but that in association with difference you shall express some neutrality while continuing to incorporate your own preferences and your own guidelines.
“The neutrality is merely expressed in the knowing that no expression, no choice, no behavior is actually right or wrong – it may be right or wrong to you, but in itself is not actually right or wrong; your assessment of right and wrong is your guideline for yourself, guiding your own behaviors and your own choices in a manner that you more prefer – and recognizing that although you would not prefer some experiences, some choices, that is not to say that they may not be beneficial to another individual, regardless of how bad you may view the choice or the experience to be.” [session 1586, July 03, 2004]
ELIAS: “Within one day – each day – not to concern yourself with subsequent days but in the present day, evaluate what you are doing. If you face yourself with what you perceive to be choice in ANY expression, whether it shall be to participate in this conversation or to participate in a socialization with other individuals or whether you shall consume water or whether you shall consume another beverage, whatever you perceive as choices that you are engaging, it is a matter of listening to you.
“The manner in which you listen to you is you pay attention to your communications and signals emotionally. If you hesitate in relation to a choice, the likelihood is that that choice is NOT your preference. If you experience ease in a choice, it generally IS a preference.
“Preferences are not enormous expressions that are solidified. Individuals become confused in relation to preferences, for they do not recognize that they are engaging preferences or not preferences in many different mundane actions. You may incorporate a preference of what type of shoes you choose and the shape of them. That is a preference that influences your choices.
“Paying attention to what you are actually doing and how you are responding to yourself in relation to your choices, THAT is how you evaluate what are your right choices. There are no absolute right choices.
“But in association with what we are discussing this day, we are not incorporating the idea that there is no right and wrong. For within each of you, you do express right and wrong, which is quite associated with the subject matter of this discussion of your greatest fear and your greatest irritation. For were you not to incorporate the association of right and wrong, you would not incorporate the greatest fear or the greatest irritation.
“What the right choices for you are what allows you your freedom. What the right choices for you are what expresses your preferences. What the right choices for you are those that acknowledge you, that allow you to experience, express and be aware of your own freedom, of your own strength, of your own power, and not denying yourself. What the wrong choices for you are those that deny you. That is the most significant.” [session 1742, April 02, 2005]
ELIAS: “...Yes, you do draw to yourselves other individuals to emphasize differences and to emphasize your own guidelines. But remember, you each do incorporate your own guidelines, and that is not wrong and it is not bad. You are not eliminating beliefs. Therefore, you are also not eliminating duplicity, the capacity to evaluate right or wrong or good or bad. You are relaxing your associations with the right and wrong and good and bad in relation to other individuals, but it is also important to not discount your own guidelines in that process, to not discount yourselves and the validity of what you perceive to be right or wrong or good or bad for you, and that it is acceptable to disagree and to dislike expressions or behaviors or choices that other individuals generate. But you can also be accepting.
“You can accept that their choices, their behaviors, their expressions are valid and that you disagree, and you can acknowledge yourselves also in your disagreement, which acknowledges you and acknowledges the other individual, and that allows you to be accepting of you and accepting of the other individual also.
“When you are accepting of you, it is a natural by-product to be accepting of other individuals. It is not an action you must work at. In this, a difficulty that many individuals express is they generate the association that if they are accepting, they must like and agree with every other expression in their world. No. In that, it creates difficulties, for then the individual begins to discount themself: I should not be angry, I should not be disliking, I should not be disagreeing, I should attempt to discover an avenue in which I can change myself and be in agreement and be liking this expression. That sets you in a direction of considerable discounting of yourself and difficulty and struggle, and creates significant opposing energy within yourself, which can create significantly uncomfortable cycles or circles. For then you begin to project that opposing energy, and what will you draw, what will you attract? Opposing energy in some form, and that can become a circle which is quite destructive.
“Therefore, I am greatly acknowledging of your discovery and accomplishment in relation to perception, and merely reminding all of you that it is important also to acknowledge your own opinions, your own preferences, your own likes and dislikes, your own associations with what is right and wrong, for that is not disappearing.” (Chuckles) [session 2482, April 04, 2008]
HOWIE: “Elias, I was wondering if we could get a few moments of elaboration revolving back to the idea of attachment and similar related ideas which I have found in culture, that say attachment or all attachment leads to suffering. In that respect, there’s also the piece of ‘detachment,’ which might be what you were describing as moving away from. That’s something I’m not clear on, and aversion or avoidance and how this all plays into participation or not.”
ELIAS: “Aversion, avoidance, detaching, these are all actions that individuals generate to be isolating. They are motivated by or stem from the individual discounting themself, not accepting certain aspects of themself, viewing certain aspects of themself as bad or wrong, and therefore not wanting to connect for they already view themselves as being wrong or bad.
“Generally speaking, this is another commonality that you do when you perceive yourselves in a particular way. You automatically assume that every other individual will know that too, or will perceive you in that manner also: ‘I am viewing myself as bad or not adequate, and therefore when I present myself to other individuals, that is what they will see also; that is how they will perceive me.’ Or, ‘If I do not generate this action in a particular manner, other individuals will perceive me as not adequate or as wrong or as not good enough.’ The individual themself is already discounting of themself, and therefore, once again, that is the energy they are projecting. Therefore, that is what they will draw to themselves. They will create that attraction, and in many situations, they will match it.
“But surprisingly, there are situations in which the individual may be discounting themself but also may incorporate enough value of themself, regardless that they can be discounting themselves, that they will not necessarily reflect from other individuals that they are wrong or they are bad or that they are not good enough. They may reflect to themselves the entire reverse, in which individuals genuinely do appreciate them and express that, regardless that they may not be feeling very well about themselves in any particular time framework.
“But once again, that is associated with their experience at that time, what they are experiencing themself, and how they are generating their own judgment of themself in that time framework. Which yes, that does move in conjunction with some attachments, for it may be an individual is judging themself or discounting themself in regard to a relationship or in regard to their employment, and perhaps their opinion and their perception of themself is that they are not generating adequately or not enough in whatever they are doing. There is an aspect of that that is an attachment of either what they have learned or what they have been taught – more so more likely what they have been taught – of how to perform and what is acceptable productivity and what is not acceptable productivity. Therefore, that aspect of the attachment plays into their own discounting of themselves and their own feelings that they are already generating, and it exacerbates that and creates that being expressed even more strongly.”
PAT B.: “...Where does a twinge come in?”
ELIAS: “That would be very similar in certain capacities to impulses, but twinges can also be associated with intuition or impressions.”
PAT B.: “Whenever I have a twinge, I usually can look at it and say I made a judgment.”
ELIAS: “It is information that you already possess, and it is being brought to your objective attention. You prompt yourself, in a manner of speaking, which could be termed to be a twinge, in which there is information that you know.”
PAT B.: “It’s always a judgment? Every time you have a twinge, are you making a judgment? Or am I wrong there?”
ELIAS: “Not necessarily, for I would express that for the most part whatever you are expressing you are attaching some type of a judgment to. That is the difference between the belief system of duplicity and the other belief systems. Duplicity is the one belief system that attaches itself to ALL of the belief systems. It attaches itself to all actions and all that you do, whether it be...”
PAT B.: “And a twinge is part of that duplicity.”
ELIAS: “It can be, yes.” [session 2867, October 24, 2009]
ELIAS: “You do not understand the force and the power of energy; the multidimensionality of your physically manifested expression of essence. You view only in part. You view what you see; a physical body and its mechanical workings. It possesses great consciousness and tremendous power. You have limited this power to a great extent, for you have been taught, through your religious-focus, that your physical expression holds no power, and incorporates duplicity.” [session 95, May 22, 1996]
ELIAS: “For you hold very deep, base belief systems of right and wrong. (Intently) For you view that you would hold no control within your physical expression if you did not incorporate the ideas and the belief systems of right and wrong to gauge your actions; for you hold the duplicity of self, and you do not trust. These are the belief systems that you presently are moving through.” [session 117, September 01, 1996]
ELIAS: “You hold a very strong belief system of the duplicity of self. Therefore, you do not believe, when you are told, that you will not betray self; but I express to you, in complete immaculate sincerity, you shall not betray yourself! You shall move to your own value fulfillment and you shall also, as does all consciousness, add to the value fulfillment of all consciousness simultaneously.” [session 153, February 16, 1997]
ELIAS: “Acceptance, within your language, should be the largest word that you possess, encompassing more letters than any other word within your language, for it is the largest and most difficult concept for you each to be accomplishing. You are taught to not be accepting. Therefore, you automatically are not. You also hold the duplicity of self, which reinforces non-acceptance of self. Therefore, how may you be accepting of another?” [session 164, April 16, 1997]
ELIAS: “You are a very complex creature. You may be accepting of a few elements of self, but you also allow yourself to be gripped with the belief system of duplicity, which is quite affecting of all of your reality within all of its aspects. It is affecting within creativity. It is affecting within interaction with other individuals. It is mostly affecting within self, privately. These are very difficult areas for very, very many individuals.” [session 172, May 06, 1997]
ELIAS: “This word ‘want’ shall lead us into our discussion of belief systems, for this is related to a belief system. You ’want’ for the reason that you perceive that what you are or what you have is insufficient. Therefore, you want differently. This also is related to your issues of duplicity, which also is a belief system. You feel that your creation is insufficient or ‘not enough’ or lacking, or elements of your creation are negative or bad. Therefore, they are needing change. If you are accepting of the belief systems, you are also understanding that they are belief systems, and this is what is influencing your ‘want.’
In addressing to these belief systems, you may also be considering their hold upon you, and you may be attempting to alter your perception in viewing your situation differently; accepting that each moment of your creation is your creation of your reality, and you are accomplishing this quite efficiently and for the reasons of experience that you have chosen. Therefore, it is unnecessary to be “wanting” of other elements; although I am quite aware that within physical focus, and as you continue to hold belief systems quite strongly, this is definitely a reality!
The object of the action of the shift is to be accepting of belief systems, therefore neutralizing their energy and releasing you, allowing you the opportunity to alter your perception and eliminate your conflict; for as you want what you do not have, you create conflict! But if you are recognizing that it is unnecessary to be expelling energy in the area of wanting, you may redirect your energy more creatively and you may be creating of those very elements that you want.” [session 188, June 29, 1997]
ELIAS: “You have been taught throughout your life and within the belief systems of your religious elements that you must be denying of yourself. Your element of duplicity is reinforced continuously, and within the denial of self and your chastisement of self continuously, individuals such as yourself are continually striving to be ‘better,’ for they are not accepting of self and the perfectness of self within the now. You are always looking for how you may objectify yourself ‘better,’ that you may be a better person, that you may be more of this or more of that. You are perfect within your expression within the now. YOU do not feel this, for you present yourselves with belief systems that you are choosing to engage, to be moving through and accepting.
In this, as you present yourself with these belief systems, you objectify many different behaviors and much unofficial information to be offering you the opportunity to view the belief systems and to be attempting to be accepting of them and accepting of self. There is no need for guilt. You have experimented within an experience of a relationship, and you have chosen to disengage this experimentation and move to a new experimentation with a new relationship. You may alter your behavior within the different relationships and offer yourself new experiences that you may find more comfortable, which is also an indication of moving into a more accepting area with yourself and with other individuals.
At times within your belief systems, you believe that ‘too much water has passed beneath your bridge’ to be accepting of one individual, and therefore you must be disengaging; and you chastise yourself and you feel guilty, for you feel you have failed. You have not failed! You have merely chosen to disengage one experience and move to another experience. In this, you may offer yourself some comfort in knowing that regardless of the acceptance of the other individual, you yourself may be accepting of yourself and of this other individual regardless, and this shall be alleviating of much of your conflict. If you are acknowledging of yourself and expressing that there is no necessity for you to be feeling guilt – it has merely been an experience; there is no guilt – and if you are accepting of yourself, that you are not underlyingly a failure or ‘bad’ and recognizing that these are merely expressions of your own belief systems, then you may also be accepting of the other individual regardless of expression, and know that these expressions are also filtered through their belief systems and stemming from their belief systems. This is not a reflection upon you. It is merely an expression through another individual’s belief systems. You need not need be holding these.” [session 218, September 15, 1997]
LETTY: “I’ve been reading a lot of the transcripts, but I’m behind in my reading. Can you explain a little bit more about duplicity belief systems?
ELIAS: The belief system of duplicity underlies all of your other belief systems. This belief system would move hand-in-hand with your belief systems of right and wrong or good and evil, for you hold within you this double element of self and how you view yourself. You view yourselves to be intrinsically bad and intrinsically good at the same time. You look to self and you express to yourself that you are a good and positive and wonderful being, but underlying, between your religious and scientific belief systems, you also hold the belief system that you are intrinsically not good; that you are, at your base level, untrustworthy and deceitful and bad. You believe this within scientific areas which express to you that your animal nature, which is your base of your being, is not to be trusted. Your impulses are what you equate with your base instincts, which are not to be acknowledged, for these are bad. Within your religious belief systems, you look to elements such as original sin that you enter physical focus with and must be cleansed from, for you are intrinsically bad upon entering physical focus and removed from All-That-Is or your creator or god or whatever you choose to be labeling all of consciousness with. Therefore, throughout your focus, as this is a globally-held mass belief system and is underlying within you all, you battle with this issue of duplicity throughout your focus.
You need be only recognizing that there is no intrinsically bad. You do not enter physical focus with a mark against you. You do not enter physical focus with the sins of the fathers before. You are intrinsically perfect. Therefore, you need not be making up for elements that are bad within you, for there is no bad! You need merely be accepting of the wondrousness of self, and recognizing that all of your choices are probabilities for experience.” [session 222, September 27, 1997]
ELIAS: “That element of duplicity that you express at times, when it is beneficial to you or when you are expressing of your facade and your camouflage, that you are a glorious creature and that you are worthy; but that element of duplicity that holds very strongly underlying that you are not a glorious creature and that you are sinful and that you are not worthy and not acceptable and may be ‘better’ than you are. There is no better than you are, for you are perfect within your expression within each moment. This be the most affecting belief system that you hold presently, and if addressing to this and allowing yourself to be accepting of self as a wondrous creation, a glorious being and quite worthy of all of your expression and quite worthy of the expressions of other individuals also, this shall be the most helpful to you.” [session 239, November 18, 1997]
ELIAS: “You offer yourselves opportunities countless times within each of your days to be accepting of self and your own creations and not bending to other individuals’ expectations, and not placing the expectations upon yourself in response to NOT trusting and accepting yourself.
NICKY: You just brought to mind something, a general scenario: One of them will say, ‘What do you want to eat?’ or ‘Do you want to go to the show?’ and my response generally is, ‘I don’t care if I eat or not.’ It doesn’t matter to me if I’m hungry or not. It doesn’t matter! Or ‘Do you want to go to the show?’ ‘Yeah, that’s fine.’ ‘Well, what do you want to see?’ ‘I don’t care.’ They both say to me that when I’m saying that it doesn’t matter to me, what I’m saying is that my opinion has no value.
NICKY: Really! Well, what if it really doesn’t matter what I see, or if it really doesn’t matter if I’m hungry or not?
ELIAS: Within yourself, you hold a knowing of what you want and where you are. An individual may express to you, ‘Shall you eat?’ By expressing, ‘It matters not,’ you are not expressing of YOUR self. You may express, ‘No, I am not interested. I do not feel hunger presently.’ Or, ‘Yes, I am interested in partaking of food.’ But by expressing ‘It does not matter,’ and expressing ‘Do what you will,’ you are discounting of yourself and offering the choices to another individual. If you are expressing ‘Shall we engage in viewing a motion picture?’ and another individual is expressing ‘It does not matter,’ this is discounting of self. ‘What shall we view?’ ‘It does not matter.’
NICKY: Oh my god! I do that on a regular basis! I’m always saying it doesn’t matter.
ELIAS: Within you, you may hold a preference, but in not wishing to be confronting of another individual and in discounting of yourself, you allow the choice to pass to another and you give up your choice. You allow another individual to dictate your reality.
NICKY: Oh my goodness gracious me! I’m always saying, ‘It doesn’t matter. Whatever you want to do.’ I’m always saying that!
ELIAS: For this aligns perfectly with the belief systems of duplicity. Why shall you value yourself or your opinion?
NICKY: Oh my gosh! What an eye-opener that one is! They would say it and I’d say, ‘It doesn’t matter, it just doesn’t matter. You want to go to the show? I’ll tag along. You’re hungry? Yeah, sure, I’ll eat. You’re not hungry? Yeah, I’ll wait.’ I do that regularly!
ELIAS: This is allowing another individual to dictate to you.
NICKY: Oh my gosh. What an eye-opener that one is! My, my, my! (Sighing) Belief systems of duplicity, huh?
ELIAS: Absolutely. There is a difference in ‘it matters not’ and ‘it doesn’t matter to me.’” [session 244, November 26, 1997]
NORM: “I think it’s marvelous that, so to speak, the constants of this reality are going to be ‘dialed’ so that we can have less duplicity. Am I saying that right? That things are going to be loosened and that this is an agreement of all consciousness, that we will more easily facilitate this understanding of duplicity? It’s kind of like a background, knob-twisting here by all of us together, isn’t it? Am I saying that right?
ELIAS: You will be eradicating duplicity.
NORM: Eradicating? Oh, that’s a heavy word! Okay, along with that goes this responsibility that you were talking about earlier in the session, because we’re going to have capabilities that are much greater than what we have today.
ELIAS: They will be realized. You will hold the same capacity that you hold now, but you do not realize your capabilities presently.
NORM: I let my imagination wander, and it really comes up with an Earth that is most gorgeous and most beautiful. And it will be that, will it not?
ELIAS: What you may imagine, you may create.
NORM: And what we together imagine, we will create.
NORM: So, eradicating duplicity will mean that we can really have the capability of seeing all our aspects and probable selves. Is that true?
ELIAS: Correct. The action of this shift holds no place for duplicity. The action of this shift is to realize and actualize a more comprehensive expansion of your abilities and your creativity within this dimension; a realization of self and a remembrance of essence.” [session 251, December 18, 1997]
CAROLE: I see. When people put another person on a pedestal, is that simply recognizing the essence or All-That-Is or – to use an archaic term in our discussions – god in another person? Is that why people do that? They don’t recognize it in themselves, but they do in someone else, and so they put another person on a pedestal? And because it’s so difficult because of invalidation or....
ELIAS: Lack of acceptance of self. This is an element of duplicity. It also is familiar. Within physical focus to this point, you have created your reality to be following other individuals. You have created your reality to be projecting yourselves outside of yourselves and looking to what you view to be “authorities” or individuals that you BELIEVE to be more knowledgeable to be directing you. As you move into the action of this shift, you now turn to looking to self for your directiveness. In this, you shall also recognize that there shall be becoming less of this action of projecting to another individual and placing upon pedestal, so to speak, for you shall recognize your own worth and also be allowing yourselves to be letting go of the element of duplicity, which prevents you and limits you from expressing your own value. In this, you shall also become aware that you, in your fullness, are no different from Elias. As I have stated, I merely remember!” [session 272, April 05, 1998]
ELIAS: “All of the creations that you engage that you view to be negative or confusing are those that are addressing to your belief systems. All of those experiences within this time framework that you choose to engage of heightened senses and elation or excitement are the acknowledgment to yourselves that you have been addressing to belief systems, and this is your validation that you are accomplishing moving through elements of your belief systems. Therefore, there may be different expressions, but the action is the same. It is merely dependent upon your position and how you have addressed to your belief systems ... or not addressed to your belief systems!
In this, let me be clear in expressing to you, these waves have been moving more frequently within what you would term to be a recent short time period. Within your recent few years this action has been accelerating, and now you move into an immense wave addressing to that very core of the action of this shift in consciousness, and that is the addressing of belief systems, and in that, the most affecting belief systems are those of duplicity and acceptance.
You all hold the belief system of duplicity. There is no individual upon this planet within this dimension that does not hold the belief system of duplicity, but in moving into the areas of acceptance, you also move into the area of accepting of duplicity automatically, in part, and therefore begin the neutralization of this belief system, which holds the greatest stronghold with you. You believe that you are good and bad simultaneously, and this is duplicity, and you believe that all other individuals are good and bad simultaneously. This is duplicity. And no individual is good and bad, for there is no good and bad! It is merely choices of experience.
There is no element within your dimension – there is no element within essence – that is good or bad. You merely hold belief systems that express this to you that you believe, and you create your reality in accordance with this, and this perpetuates the lack of acceptance within self and within other individuals, and this creates conflict and the perpetuation, and over and over and cycling and circling and continuing. And this be the action of your shift, to be altering of this reality and recognizing the reality that there is no right and wrong, there is no good and bad, and there is no necessity for judgment.
And also let me express to you that each time you view yourselves or another individual to be right, you are creating a judgment. You do not merely create judgment in expressing wrongness, for each time that you express rightness, you also express wrongness automatically, for some element must be wrong if there is an element that is right! This is how you have created your reality and your belief systems, and it IS your reality and it is a very STRONG reality, and it holds to you very strongly and YOU hold to IT very strongly, and you resist the letting go of these belief systems, for they are familiar. And this is what you have created for millennium and this is what you recognize and this is comfortable, and although you express you are not comfortable, you continue to create uncomfortableness, for it is familiar, and in that it is comfortable.
(Humorously) What is uncomfortable is the unfamiliar – strange beings visiting you, strange qualities within your experiences, and the ‘wooo’ (grinning) of all of the unknown elements that exist within your reality! You are leery of plunging yourselves directly into the middle of your Bermuda Triangle within your own home, but this triangle holds wondrous elements and within it you hold wondrous creativity! And this is what you magnate to presently, although you hold to your energy and you hold to yourselves in fearfulness, for it is unfamiliar and frightening, but it is wondrous also! And therefore, the knowing within you that you are so accomplished at NOT listening to any longer re-emerges within you and allows you the wonderment of your own remembrance; your remembrance of self, of essence, of what you are, and the amazement of your own unbounded creativity, which it is!
Each of you holds wondrous gloriousness! There are no limitations to your accomplishments. There are no limitations to your energy. There are no limitations to your connectedness EXCEPT within the area of the holding to your belief systems, and as you hold to them you also create your own limitations and you do not allow yourselves to view the wondrousness of what you have created within this dimension.” [session 284, May 30, 1998]
SARA: Okay. As far as belief systems, I think that one of my problems is that I feel like a lot of times I’m fighting myself inside, because I have one set of beliefs that life is meaningful and that I’m worthy and everything like that, and I have another set of beliefs that is opposite of that, and I think they’re both held just about as strongly. Is that correct?
ELIAS: You are correct, and this would be the belief system of duplicity. This particular belief system holds very strongly with very many individuals, and yourself also, and this particular belief system moves into the forefront now as an addressed element of this shift in consciousness, bringing this particular base belief system to light, so to speak, that it may be examined and may be addressed to and therefore be allowed to move into the area of acceptance.
This also shall be one of your most difficult belief systems to be moving through and allowing yourself the acceptance of, for yourself, as with many other individuals, holds very strongly to this duplicity, and en masse this particular belief system holds very, very strong energy. Therefore, it is reinforcing of the individuals, for the mass belief system lends such a tremendous energy to its perpetuation.” [session 289, June 23, 1998]
FEMALE: “Just quickly, you speak of duplicity a lot. I know words often fail us, but by duplicity, do you mean the world of duality?
ELIAS: I express this word purposefully. You hold many more belief systems in the area of the belief system of duality. You attach more belief systems to the terminology of duality. Therefore, in using this term I may be moving into areas of perpetuating your belief systems in this area. I expressly am using of the word duplicity, for it is expressive of these – what you term to be – opposite views that you hold simultaneously of yourselves.
You view yourselves to be good and you view yourselves to be bad. You view yourselves to be worthy and you view yourselves to be unworthy. These are directly influenced by religious and scientific belief systems, not only religious belief systems, for your psychology enters the area of your sciences, and this also shall express to you that you are good and you are bad simultaneously. ‘You are inherently good, but you also hold animal instincts and impulses, and impulses are very bad!’ Impulses are your natural language from essence to yourselves, and you are taught within the belief systems of your sciences that they are bad and that they are not natural and that they ‘reduce’ you – which is quite amusing – to the level, so to speak – which there are no levels – of your ‘animalistic instincts.’ Instincts are merely repeated behaviors. You all display instincts. Each time you repeat a behavior, you are displaying an instinct. Therefore, instincts are not what your belief systems suggest, for you are creating of instincts continuously, for you are continuously creating of repeated behaviors!
But I shall also express to you that you may not be ‘reduced’ to a non-existent level of a creature, for the creature is an aspect of you! So, what shall you reduce yourself to? Another aspect of yourself, for you have created them! They are expressions of you. All of what you term to be outside of you, as nature, is you. You are not separated from these elements. They are physical manifestations, projections of you. All of your atmosphere are physical manifestations of your emotional projections. All of your visible universe are physical mirror images, projections of you.
Now view the wondrousness and vastness of your tiny little selves! (Chuckling) Are you not wondrously amazing? And much greater than you realize!” [session 291, June 26, 1998]
ELIAS: “Now; be remembering also the example in exercise, which has been offered at our most recent session, of the allowance, the penetration, and the buffer; your energy field which surrounds you. (1)
RODNEY: I remember that discussion.
ELIAS: In this example, I have offered to you a situation that you may engage and that you may hold within your objective thought process that may offer you temporarily the feeling of security within yourself.
Now; let me explain. These belief systems are so very strong, and held en masse, which adds to their strength. In these very strong belief systems within physical focus, you view yourselves to not hold the ability very efficiently to be battling, so to speak, these very strongly held belief systems. In my expression to you, I suggest clearly to you that these are more aspects of the belief systems themselves that you do not hold the ability to be battling.
RODNEY: That’s part of the belief.
ELIAS: Correct. This is the belief of duplicity, which intertwines itself with ALL of your belief systems. There are no belief systems that do not intertwine with the immense belief system of duplicity. Now; also in this, I suggest to you that there is no battle to be waged!
RODNEY: (Laughing) Okay!
ELIAS: The recognition or the noticing of the belief system is the initial movement into acceptance. Once you have accomplished identifying to yourself the belief system and you begin to view the aspects of the belief system, as I have stated previously, you may begin to inquire of yourself ‘why and what’ in relation to these aspects of the belief system. Look to yourself and identify that you do hold duplicity within self within physical focus. Recognize the tremendous affectingness of this duplicity. This shall be helpful to you, for in this you may also wage your battle ... although the battle is in actuality unnecessary!
But not discounting the strength of your belief systems, I am also recognizing that regardless that you may not necessarily need be waging a battle within your belief systems, this becomes necessary, for you do not view any other ‘method’ for your accomplishment. As I have stated many times, methods are unnecessary, but within your physical focus you believe that methods are necessary and you believe that there are processes to all of your accomplishments.
RODNEY: What I hear you saying is that the discovery – within my own focus – of duplicity within myself in association with these beliefs is the crucial issue.
RODNEY: The word duplicity suggests to me a lying to oneself or a kidding of oneself, as well as if there’s going to be heat, there must be cold someplace, or if there’s an up, there must be a down.
RODNEY: You’re using duplicity in that sense.
RODNEY: The coin must have two sides. (Pause) So I should meditate ... and I shouldn’t use the word ‘should!’ (They both laugh) If I meditate, if I discover for myself my true feelings about this duplicitous nature of, say, the aspect of hurtfulness....
ELIAS: Quite! Let us focus upon this aspect itself specifically.
RODNEY: My sense is that I should always be in this discovery process.
ELIAS: You ARE always within this discovery....
RODNEY: And consciously affecting this, to be accepting of all of my movements in this.
ELIAS: Quite. Now; let us view the aspect of hurtfulness within a relationship and where this aspect of the belief stems from. The belief that there is hurtfulness within a relationship is not created by the projection of another individual. It is created by your alignment with this belief system of duplicity, for it matters not what another individual may project outwardly to you. What matters, in a manner of speaking, within physical focus is your view of yourself and your hold within that.
RODNEY: My hold?
ELIAS: Yes. Let us express our example of the allowance, the penetration, and the buffer once again. I may be projecting any type of energy in your direction. Now; within yourself, if you are not engaging the belief system of duplicity and if you are holding the recognition of the gloriousness of self, it matters not what my projection may be, for it shall be unaffected.
RODNEY: I don’t have to objectively be remembering that I have this field around me and that energy will burst like a bubble. I don’t have to be doing that if I am remembering of my own gloriousness.
ELIAS: Quite. Yes, you are correct in this. Let us focus upon another very small example.
You may be within a situation engaged in a relationship with another individual. You are moving about within your day, and you may be creating of an action that you place a teacup upon your table. Your partner addresses to you angrily and expresses to you, ‘Why shall you place this teacup upon the table in this manner? This is unacceptable! You are an idiot! I do not understand your creation of placing this cup in this manner!’
Now; your response automatically is to be receding and identifying tones and certain terms, certain words within your language that you view to be hurtful. You shall not be in this moment evaluating self or the situation that has just occurred. You shall be automatically immediately responding, and within your thought process you shall eliminate all words save ‘idiot,’ ‘unacceptable,’ ‘wrong.’ You shall save the tone which has been projected, and these you shall permit as penetration.
RODNEY: I shall allow them to be penetrating.
RODNEY: You are saying this is my belief?
ELIAS: This is the action in general that individuals within physical focus shall be automatically creating in this type of situation. Now; given this type of situation, let us also examine the reason that the penetration is allowed and the reason that the response is created automatically. This would be the belief of duplicity, for automatically within the individual, yourself also, they shall be moving into the belief of duplicity. Be remembering that this is not within your thought process. It is an automatic action, just as if your physician is striking your knee, you shall produce an automatic response in reflex.
RODNEY: That’s the duplicitousness.
ELIAS: Correct. In this duplicity you shall also, within emotion, create an automatic response which may be compared to a reflex, for it has become so very automatic. It needs no thought process; it needs no evaluation. It shall merely appear automatically, immediately; and in this, if you are identifying this duplicity, you may also offer yourself the opportunity to not be responding.” [session 303, August 01, 1998]
FEMALE: “I’d like to know about my own duplicity. Why do I sometimes feel I can move forward, but part of me says, ‘No, I can’t do that.’
ELIAS: This is quite common within physical focus and is also much more emphasized presently within this shift in consciousness, for your belief systems move more surfacely. Therefore, they are also more obvious to you within your recognition of your own self and your own behaviors.
Let me express to you that duplicity is the strongest of your belief systems within physical focus. This particular belief system permeates all other belief systems that you hold within physical focus and influences all of your belief systems. It intermingles with all of your focus in its entirety. This has been established for millennium within your creation of this particular reality.
Let me express that in what you would term to be your beginnings within this dimension, an aspect of this duplicity was created through your own wonderings of self and your abilities. This would be what you would term to be the beginnings of this particular belief system. As you chose to be fully objectively physically focused within this dimension, you also chose to be not recalling all of essence, and therefore separating the focus from essence in an objective awareness. In this, you became aware of limitations, so to speak, or what you viewed to be limitations, for you did not allow yourselves the remembrance of all of your abilities.
This particular aspect of your creation within this dimension has followed you, so to speak, throughout all of your creating of linear time framework in this dimension. Therefore, it is underlying in all that you create within this particular physical focus, for you do not hold the remembrance objectively of all of your abilities and all that you know, and in this, as your attention is so very singularly focused, you also view yourselves to be limited. You are only limited in what you do not remember, but this is a continuing state that you create with yourselves, and this has been perpetuated very strongly with the addition of your religious and scientific belief systems, for both of these areas move in directions of perpetuating the belief system of duplicity.
Within the area of religious belief systems, it is expressed that there are elements outside of you that are greater than you, and that you are ‘less than.’ Within your new religion of metaphysics, it is stated that you occupy a state in consciousness in this dimension upon this planet, which is your working class planet, your learning planet, (humorously) which is of the lowly third dimension, and that you shall aspire to the fifth or seventh dimension if you are creating quite ‘good,’ which is another perpetuation of your belief system of duplicity.
Your sciences also perpetuate this belief system of duplicity and reinforce your own alignment with it, for you look to your sciences for your answers, so to speak, of your existence. Your sciences express to you that you do not hold abilities to be creating, that you are an accident, and that your planet is an accident which has occurred within explosions of creation and of that which you term to be life, which you differentiate between life and that which you term to be non-life or non-living. A rock is non-living. You are living. A plant is living. In actuality, they are all consciousness. They are merely formed differently and function differently, but within energy, they are all consciousness and are all comprised of the same links of consciousness that you are comprised of. But your sciences express that there ARE differences and that you, although being the most intelligent of life upon your planet, you hold inadequacies and you are not all-creating. You have accidentally evolved from that which you term to be ‘lower’ species upon your planet, and although you have aspired to some greatness, in your assessments, you are not great. You are capable of temporary greatness, but you are not wondrous, for all has been created accidentally.
In the area of your science of psychology, your issues and belief system of duplicity is MUCH reinforced, for this science is continuously, creatively inventing new areas to be expressing to you how very inadequate you are and how very uncreative you are, and narrowing and narrowing and narrowing the avenue of acceptable behavior. Therefore, there are many, many, many areas that reinforce this belief system of duplicity, which creates in the individual the energy of questioning continuously, ‘Am I creating adequately? Am I moving in a correct direction? Am I right?’ In this questioning, you are reinforcing yourself and you are spinning upon your wheel continuously, for you are not stopping long enough to be expressing to yourselves, ‘Stop! I AM great. I need not question or look to other individuals or those that I view to be authorities, for I am my own authority.’
This be one of the reasons that I speak to you; not that you be looking to me and following me, for I do not advocate that any individual be a follower or disciple of Elias, but that you be the followers and disciples of yourselves, for you hold the knowings within you. You merely are presently requiring of a little encouragement, that you look to yourselves and that you be accepting of yourselves and not so very questioning of yourselves.
You have been taught for very much time framework to be questioning of everything, and this is good. ‘You shall be skeptical. You shall be analyzing. It is good to be expressing this behavior. It is good to be questioning and moving into the direction of rationality. It is good to logical. Intuition is fantasy. Fantasy is delusional. Delusional is bad!’
I express to you that there is a purpose for your rationality, for you have created it purposely. There is also a purpose for your intuition and you have created this purposely, and these two elements of your objective expression have been at odds for much of your time framework, for your belief systems have set them at odds.
And now you move into the direction of bringing into balance these aspects of your reality and accepting both, knowing that your rationality is a creation to serve your understanding and also knowing that your intuition is your language to yourself, and in this, one may not function properly without the other.
There is an imbalance, and this perpetuates also your duplicity and your questioning of yourself, that you move in the direction of your thought process and your rationality and your logic and your questioning and your analyzation. And in all of this thought activity, you are ignoring this small voice which motivates you, and you question that motivation, for you have learned well not to be trusting of self, for yourself shall betray you, for it is untrustworthy. And you may verify this through all of your authorities: your sciences, your physicians, your clergymen, your psychologists. They shall all be expressing to you not to be trusting of self, for in trusting of self, you shall move into the direction of trusting your impressions and your impulses.
(Humorously) Oh, no! We must not be trusting impulses, for these are quite animalistic and very base! And the element of self that you need be discarding and ‘rising above’ ... I am so very fond of this terminology! Rising above! And what shall be above? I shall be wondrous to discover what is above, as I have never experienced above! (Laughter) Sideways, but no above! Beyond, but no above ... and no below! And how shall we have above if we have no below? (Chuckling)
Therefore, let me express to you that each time you are battling with yourself, allow yourself the moment of quietness to focus upon your language to yourself, your inner voice which motivates you, and in this afford yourself the opportunity to question, that in how shall it be harmful to you? For you shall not be harmful to you if you are listening to you. You shall be harmful to yourself if you are moving in the direction of your influences of your belief systems which stem from outside of yourself.
Example: Many, many, many individuals approach us and express inquiry to the situation of physical form. It is posed to this essence: ‘Elias, I am discontented with the physical form that I have created. I am experiencing overweightness.’ This is quite amusing to us! (Laughter) ‘And this is unacceptable, for it is unacceptable to other individuals and it is unacceptable to myself, for it is causing me great conflict and anguish.’ And I shall express, ‘Why are you experiencing great anguish in what you have created within your form? And what is unacceptable in what you have created in your form?’
And I shall express to you, what is unacceptable is outside of you, for within you, you shall create what you choose to create, but you shall also align with other individuals’ judgments and you shall subsequently place judgments upon yourself, in the same manner as the dis-ease – or the belief system of the dis-ease – of senility, which is not a dis-ease. It is a choice, but the individuals creating of this choice also align with the belief system that their behavior is unacceptable, for they look to outside of themselves and they accept the judgment of others. And within this small example of physical form, individuals accept the judgment outside of themselves and are not listening to their own small voice.
This is not to say that many individuals do not create this overweightness ... which is not overweightness at all, but this would be your term for this creation. This is not to say that many individuals experiencing this situation are not creating this situation in alignment with the officially accepted belief systems and their own issues of duplicity and holding energy in this area, for they are not accepting of themselves. Therefore, they are creating an outward image, a camouflage which mirrors their own lack of acceptance of self, that they may project to other individuals and reinforce their own lack of acceptance.
(Intently) They are not accepting themselves and therefore they shall willingly accept the non-acceptance of other individuals also, for they are deserving of this, for they are unworthy of any else, and this is an example of duplicity.
But many individuals merely are creating of this physical display of what you term to be overweightness for they choose to be creating of this, and they are not holding an issue. But they allow themselves to be affected in what you term to be negativity, for they accept the judgment of outside and are not listening to their own little voice, which is expressing, ‘You are choosing to be creating of this form, for you choose to be expressing yourself in this manner, and it is pleasing to you. And you are enjoying of consuming substances and therefore you are experiencing pleasure, moving through your focus with less thickness, and this is acceptable to you.’ (Laughter)
No, YOU shall move in the direction of placing many, many judgments upon yourself and expressing, ‘Some element is quite wrong with myself, for I am not creating in the manner of the officially accepted reality.’ And who is creating of the officially accepted reality? The ‘they.’ And who are the they? The you! YOU are the they! YOU are the ones that are creating of the officially accepted reality! Therefore, you are merely expressing outwardly your own battles with duplicity.” [session 307, August 14, 1998]
ELIAS: “Good evening! (Smiling) Welcome to new essences this evening! This evening, we shall discuss the belief system of duplicity. We have been discussing belief systems within our recent sessions, and I have moved in the direction of explanation with individuals that there are fewer belief systems than you realize, but there are many more aspects that are contained within these belief systems than you realize. I have offered the analogy that many of you are familiar with, of the bird cage, which has been quite helpful to many individuals within physical focus in understanding the concept of belief systems and their aspects and the affectingness of these aspects of belief systems.
The belief system itself is, as I have stated many times, a bird cage. The aspects of the belief system are all of the birds which are contained within the bird cage. All of these birds are quite animated, quite living, holding much energy, and are quite affecting, just as an actual bird within your physical focus which occupies a cage. It is requiring of attention and it is demanding of attention at times also. It requires food and water and care and also your attention and interaction, and the birds within the bird cage of the belief system – the aspects of belief systems – are quite similar. They are quite demanding of your attention also, and they move in the direction of wishing to be fed in like manner to your birds within physical focus, and you are quite efficient at feeding all of these aspects, for you DO pay attention to them and you reinforce them in energy, and this is how you feed them.
Now; I shall also briefly offer to you that within the action of this shift in consciousness, the point is to be opening the door to these bird cages and allowing the birds to fly free, therefore neutralizing the belief system by emptying the aspects from the belief system – emptying all of the birds from the bird cage – and in this action, you are not eliminating the belief system. You are not discarding the cage. You are merely emptying the cage and the demandingness of the cage, and you may allow yourselves to be using these cages subsequently, ornamentally, within your own creativity, and you may alter them into whatever design you are choosing, reconstructing their energy into more efficient and beneficial energy.
Therefore, I express once again, the point is not to be eliminating belief systems or to be altering belief systems, but to be accepting of these belief systems that you hold, for they are an intricate element of your physical focus and they may not be eliminated from your physical focus. They are a part of its design. You have created this reality incorporating belief systems. They are intricate to it. They ARE your reality. Therefore, we do not seek to be eliminating of them, but to be accepting of them.
The acceptance of a belief system, the allowance of the birds to be flying free, is to be recognizing each of these birds and not creating a judgment, for acceptance is the lack of judgment, and each time that you allow yourself to move into the direction of non-judgment any longer concerning any aspect of a given belief system, you are allowing a bird to fly free and you are emptying another bird from the cage.
The belief system of duplicity is slightly different from all of your other belief systems, for this belief system is intimately involved with ALL of the aspects of ALL of your belief systems. There is no belief system or aspect of a belief system that this one belief of duplicity does not affect. It is influencing and affecting of EVERY movement that you accomplish. This is the belief system of good and bad and right and wrong, and this belief system attaches itself to EVERY aspect of EVERY other belief system. There is no action that you create within physical focus that this particular belief system does not enter into. Even within the smallest directions of creations that you may engage within physical focus, you involve the belief system of duplicity.
As you choose to awake within your day, how you choose to awake, is influenced by duplicity. Every movement that you create within physical focus is influenced by this belief system – whether you shall adorn yourselves with certain types of clothing, with certain types of shoes, how you shall place them upon your physical form, in what order shall you place them upon your physical form! How you shall brush your hair, how you shall eat your breakfast, whether you shall eat your breakfast! Every movement – how you engage your physical walking across your room. Are your feet pointed within the correct direction? Is this good or is this bad? Do your feet point to each other and meet each other? This shall be bad! Do your feet point away from each other? This shall be bad! Do your feet point straightly ahead? This shall be good! These are all judgments. This is all duplicity. These are very small examples of the intricacies of this belief system of duplicity, but this belief system is much more affecting than how your feet shall point, for this belief system is quite affecting of YOU and how you view yourselves and how you interact with yourselves, and how you interact with other individuals.
This is the belief system that is the most greatly creating of judgments, and positive and good is also a judgment. It is opposing bad or negative. It is no less a judgment than what you perceive to be unacceptable. It also is a very insidious judgment, and this is the camouflage of duplicity, for it is quite changeable. It is quite acclimating to all of your camouflages, to all of your belief systems, to all of your thoughts and feelings, and may mold itself in many different manners that may be quite deceiving.
In this, you create judgments of good and right and acceptable, and you justify all of your own judgments, and you justify your lack of acceptance of yourselves and of other individuals, and this is also quite influenced by fear. You are fearful of the unfamiliar, and the unfamiliar is piercing the veil of you, recognizing you as YOU.
But you have created within this dimension the veil of separation, and you have forgotten what you are as essence. You have forgotten the whole of you, all of your abilities, and the gloriousness of yourselves, and in this it becomes unfamiliar, and you do not easily move in the area of unfamiliarity.
Duplicity holds you in the familiar, in the uncomfortable, and it is quite reinforcing of itself! This belief system has been fed so very much that there is no bird that may match the size of this particular bird! No creature upon your planet may match the size of this particular well-fed bird, and this bird is quite efficient at changing colors. It also may change its size, that it may ‘appear to disappear’ to you, and you may express to yourself, ‘I have viewed this bird, I have set this bird free, and I no longer must be dealing with this particular monstrous bird!’ But you merely do not see that this monstrous bird has changed itself quite efficiently [and is] invisible temporarily, merely to elude you and move you into the thought process of deluding yourself in your thinking that it is gone, and as you are thinking that it is gone, you may be perpetuating all of the aspects of all of your other belief systems, and you shall move directly into your own justifications.
(Humorously) Justification is quite a friendly bird to duplicity! They have established quite a relationship, and may be seen with each other quite often! Therefore, be aware, where one lurks, the other is not far behind! (Laughter)
Defensiveness is another aspect of justification. You have created so very many birds in this area that you may look to other individuals and their interactions, and you may express to yourselves YOUR worthiness, YOUR goodness, YOUR great acceptance of all other elements and other individuals, and you may be acknowledging greatly of yourselves in your justifications, but these stem from the lack of acceptance of self.
... As you hold a lack of acceptance of self, you automatically project this outwardly to other individuals. It is, as I have stated previously, as a ball rolling down a hill, continuing to roll and roll and gain momentum, for all you need be accomplishing is offering this ball one little push, and it shall create its own speed and its own energy and its own momentum, carrying you along with it, but this is not an element outside of yourselves. This is an aspect of you, for it is your belief systems, and your belief systems create your perception, and your perception creates your reality.
Your perception is, there is a cup upon your table. You each view this cup differently. It may be very slight differences within your visuals, but each of you shall perceive the cup slightly different, and in this, the cup is, in reality, how you perceive it. It is not independent of you. It is an element that you have created. Therefore, how you perceive it IS its reality.
Now; in this, each of you holds different perceptions within your reality. They are no less real than any other perception of reality. They are different, but within your belief systems – and the bird of duplicity creeping around the corner once again! – you automatically move in the direction of your own perception, that this is absolute and truth, and all other individuals shall perceive the same as you perceive, for you perceive reality, and if they not perceiving what you are perceiving, they are not perceiving reality! Absolutely! (Somebody must have been nodding here, as Elias was grinning and nodding at somebody when he said, ‘Absolutely!’)
Very incorrect, for their perception is reality also! And in this, your duplicity enters once again and offers you an explanation and expresses to you, ‘Very well. I may be accepting of this concept. Their reality is their reality for themselves, but it is not reality! It is merely their reality for themselves. It is their perception, and therefore it is their reality. It is not my reality and is not THE reality, but it is their reality.’
(Humorously) For you all are very aware that there is a ‘THE reality’ which is independent of your reality or your reality or your reality (looking at different people), for all of your realities are merely your realities, and there is an independent reality which is THE official reality. Of course, none of you perceive the official reality, for it escapes you all, for you are very busy perceiving your own reality (laughter) and holding your attention in this area!
But you have quite efficiently moved into the direction of offering yourselves this explanation, which then moves you into the comfortability of expressing to yourselves, ‘It matters not that another individual perceives differently, for their reality is their reality.’ No. There is no official ‘THE reality.’
There is a combined collective of a created concept of reality which you all participate within, and therefore you each view an object that you term to be a cup, although each cup is different. There is not one cup set upon your table. There are many cups set upon your table which occupy the same space arrangement, all of which are equally reality, and each of you creates each cup. I have expressed this example previously, but in conjunction with this subject of duplicity, it serves to be reiterating of this particular example with the cup, for this you may view clearly within your own thought process, how you camouflage your own duplicities.
You place judgments upon other individuals’ perceptions, for they are not the same as yours. You may offer an excuse for other individuals which you term to be an ‘allowance for their perception,’ but in actuality, what you are creating is a judgment, and the judgment is not acceptance, and acceptance is the point.
Each of you within this forum encounters other individuals that you may be experiencing conflict with, within one degree or another. Even within the degrees of conflict, you enter your duplicity by expressing that certain conflicts are more important or bigger or stronger or worse than other conflicts. They are all conflicts. It matters not. You merely choose within responsiveness to your duplicity to be creating of degrees of drama attached to your conflicts. If they are very, very bad conflicts, you shall be creating very strong drama! If they are mild conflicts, you may be creating of mild expressions with regard to them. At certain time periods, you may be engaging intense drama with your conflicts and creating what you term to be your temper tantrums! (Laughter) For this is quite expressive and creative and also quite affecting of the situation, as we are all aware! If you are creating a temper tantrum, it shall immediately alter the reality of the conflict. I think not! (Chuckling, followed by silence)
This has been quite interesting! I truly DO think not! (Laughing) For I hold no thought process! (Laughing harder – Elias is cracking himself up!)
This belief system of duplicity holds great importance within the action of this shift, that you be addressing to this particular belief system and recognizing its affectingness in every aspect of your focus and within all of your actions. Many individuals inquire, ‘How may we move in the direction of peacefulness, of lovingness, of altering our reality?’ Acceptance of self and the acceptance of the belief system of duplicity and rendering this particular belief system neutral shall be affecting of ALL of your other belief systems, and shall be automatically creating of the byproduct of allowing you to more easily move into the area of acceptance of all of your other belief systems.
Each time you are creating of any type of judgment, you are engaging duplicity. I challenge you each to hold an awareness, within merely one day within your focus, of how many times you engage duplicity, and you may be surprising yourselves, for you engage this belief system continuously!
ANON: ... I know that you were discussing a lot about our belief systems, and that it is really important for us to look at the belief systems, and I know that we created these belief systems to begin with, and I’m wondering why it’s necessary for us to change them. I guess they’re not really serving us any more, but how is this going to help us, to change them?
ELIAS: First of all, let me express to you that you are not changing the belief systems. You are merely moving in the direction of accepting the belief systems. There IS a difference.
In your thought processes, you think to yourselves that if you are changing your belief systems, this shall be affecting of your reality and be creating of more efficiency within your reality.
In actuality, what you are accomplishing in the action of changing a belief system is not changing a belief system! The belief system remains. What you ARE moving into is changing your perception or your viewpoint, so to speak. You have moved your viewing from one aspect of the belief system to a different aspect of the belief system, but the first aspect that you have been viewing continues to remain within the cage. You merely are not focusing your attention upon that particular bird any longer. You are focusing your attention upon a different bird.
At times, you may even move in the direction of viewing the same bird, but viewing different angles of the same bird. Initially you view the head of the bird, and then, in attempting to ‘change your belief system,’ you move your attention to the tail of the bird, or you occupy your attention with the colors of the bird or the size of the bird.
The bird continues to remain within the cage. The belief system remains the same. You are merely moving your attention in different directions. This is altering of your perception, but it is not accepting a belief system.
The point of accepting a belief system is to be not eliminating the belief system, but to be eliminating the judgment, and if you are eliminating the judgment, you are also greatly affecting of your conflict that you create within yourselves and within each other. And this would be the point, for within this shift in consciousness, you move in the direction of creating a new type of reality.
In this, I am not expressing that within the accomplishment of this shift you shall be altering your physical form, and you shall be moving about your planet as strange, unusual-looking little creatures and that you shall be consuming of strange vegetation, and that the entirety of your planet and your existence within this physical focus shall be altered radically within these types of manners, but the entirety of your reality SHALL be altered in different respects, and these alterations ARE quite radical, in a manner of speaking.
How you perceive your reality as it is established presently shall be altered. Your structure of your reality shall be different. I have offered information in this once, and I have expressed to individuals that I shall not move in the direction of often repeating that information, for that moves in the direction of what you perceive to be predictions, and I choose not to be lending energy in this direction, for this is another belief system.
I have offered information previously as to the action of this shift and how it shall be definitively altering of your reality in very radical manners, but I also am not moving in the direction of perpetuating your own belief systems in the areas of prophecies and crystal balls and predictions, for all actions are, as you are aware, probabilities, and therefore they are not concrete. They are very changeable within every moment, and although some probabilities are more probable than other probabilities in their actualization into this particular physical dimension, they are probabilities. Therefore, they are not absolutes.
There are no absolutes! You WANT absolutes, but there are no absolutes!
In this, your acceptance of your belief systems allows you to hold an opinion concerning your belief systems, that you may choose to move within them or you may choose not to move within them, but you create no judgment that you attach to them. There is no right or wrong or good or bad that concerns your choices. They are recognized as merely choices, and in this you offer yourselves tremendous freedom, and this be the point.
For within the alignment of these belief systems and the movement of all of the aspects of these belief systems and all of your judgments which are attached to these aspects of belief systems, you limit your own expressions, your own acceptance, and your own creativity. You create limits upon yourselves, and in this, as you allow yourselves to be accepting of belief systems, you not only open the door for the birds to fly free, but you also open the door for the freedom of your own creativity and your own expressions.
You guard yourselves. You do not allow the freedom of your expression, for you fear how this shall be perceived by another individual. You shall guard how you speak, what energy you project, how you think, for you hold an awareness that thought is energy, and although other individuals do not engage their inner sense of telepathy and actively engage in mind-reading with you, you DO hold an awareness that in some subjective manner THEY hold an awareness of your energy, which you project through your thought processes, which is translated as energy projected outward from your physical form in the direction of other individuals.
And do not delude yourselves into the thought process that other individuals are unaware of your projections of energy! It is unnecessary to physically view, to see or hear or touch energy, to KNOW that it is present and to KNOW that it is being manipulated.
You all have encountered experiences with other individuals in which you KNOW what another individual is thinking, and they may say nothing. You may not allow yourselves to engage this continuously, but you ALL have created this experience within your focus. Not one individual has not experienced this particular action! It is natural to you. It is a movement of your inner senses, which ARE natural to you. You merely do not open yourselves to actively engaging these inner senses continuously, but regardless that you notice the workings of these inner senses, they ARE working and you DO allow yourselves to be connecting to their workings occasionally.
Therefore, you hold an awareness that it matters not that another individually, physically, audibly expresses to you. You hold an awareness of their energy and of their thought processes.
(Firmly) There are no secrets within essence!
You may move in the direction within physical focus of fooling yourselves and deceiving yourselves that you hold the ability to be creating secrets from other individuals, but within essence there are no secrets, for there are no judgments. And in this, it matters not what you choose to be creating! You create your secrets, for you hold duplicity and you engage this belief system. You do not move in the direction of secretiveness if you are not creating a judgment that you have engaged something bad or unacceptable or that you fear other individuals shall place a judgment upon, but you have already placed a judgment upon your very creation! This be the reason that you are creating of this shift and that you are addressing to these belief systems, for your own freedoms.
How very often do you each engage the thought of how very liberating it may be that you may express yourselves without limitation? And if you are accepting belief systems you discontinue judgment, and therefore you MAY express yourselves in all of your creations, in all of your thought process, in all of your emotions, in all of your directions of all of your expressions, for it shall matter not. It shall not be hurtful to other individuals, for they shall not be engaging judgment, and it shall not be hurtful to yourself, for YOU shall not be engaging judgment, and THIS is the point.
RODNEY: ... To view something as being beautiful, is that not a judgment? And if that be a judgment, then where is the duplicity?
ELIAS: Yes, this is a judgment and this would be an expression of duplicity, for in viewing an element as beautiful, you are creating a comparison that another element is not beautiful, and in this you are incorporating your duplicity.
As I have stated, you move in the direction of viewing the action of your duplicity ONLY when you are noticing of negative elements or what you view to be bad, unacceptable, or wrong. THIS shall attain your attention and you shall recognize that you are moving in the direction of duplicity, for this appears obvious to you that it is a judgment. You do not so easily move into this noticing of judgment if you are expressing that an element is good or right or beautiful or positive, and this is the very nature of duplicity.
RODNEY: It almost sounds like it takes a little juice out of life!
ELIAS: No. It APPEARS in this manner to you presently, for you are steeped within this belief system of duplicity, and it is what is familiar to you.
I speak to you of joyfulness – which in your interpretation and in your understanding is translated into great happiness – and beauty. As I express to you of joyfulness, I am not expressing of happiness. This is an emotion. I am not expressing to you of beauty in the terms that you understand within physical focus. I am expressing of liberation and of freedom, which is not necessarily attached to an emotion, but you translate this into an emotion.
Now; I am not expressing to you that your emotions are bad! You have created this particular dimension to be experiencing emotion and sexuality. Therefore, this is not bad. It is what you have created for the experience within physical form. Some elements of your reality are not necessarily elements that attach to emotion or sexuality, but are reality and may be incorporated into your reality.
This also is the point of this shift in consciousness, to expand your awareness and allow you the ability to incorporate more into your physical experience, more of essence and the expression of essence and the remembrance of essence into your physical expression and your physical focuses within your mundane reality. I do not express mundane in the terms that you automatically move into, as boring, but that this is your routine, so to speak, your every day, and in this every day reality, you may incorporate much more freedom and much more of an expansiveness of your own expressions.
Within this shift, you shall not discontinue emotion! This IS a basic unit, so to speak, of this particular dimension. Therefore, you shall continue to be experiencing emotion, but you shall experience emotion by choice. (Emphatic pause)
Within this present now, you ARE choosing the emotions that you experience, but you do not view yourselves to be choosing. You do not see your reality and how you are creating your reality. Therefore, your perception is that you are not always creating your reality and that you are experiencing certain elements of your reality in responsiveness to other individuals’ creations, or they are thrust upon you, or you are the victim of other individuals’ creations or situations.
In this, as you move in the action of this shift and allow yourselves more of an awareness, as you are widening your awarenesses and expanding your periphery, you allow yourselves to experience the fullness of your emotions and your sexuality which you have created within this dimension, and you shall know why and how you are creating of each direction and event.
You shall not surprise yourself with your creation, for you shall understand why you are creating of it. This is also not to say that you shall hold no surprise within this physical dimension, for you shall continue to incorporate surprise, but not within the areas that you do not wish surprise.
RODNEY: ... I have one more. Would you distinguish again the distinction between duality and duplicity?

ELIAS: I am aware that your new religion of your metaphysics moves in the direction of designating duality as the same as duplicity, but in actuality, I am quite careful in my choice of words that I offer to you in explanation of these belief systems and concepts.
Duality is suggestive of two, or a double of elements. Duplicity, although it incorporates what you term to be opposites, it is not necessarily merely two. It is an incorporation of very different conflicting elements within you simultaneously, in opposition to each other. Duality does not always suggest conflict or opposing elements. You may hold duality in certain areas that may complement each other. Within duplicity, these elements of the belief system that you hold do not complement each other. They are opposing of each other and creating of conflict.
RODNEY: In other words, the north pole and the south pole are complementary ...
RODNEY: ... dualities.
RODNEY: They are not in conflict.
ELIAS: They are not within conflict. Duplicity IS within conflict. It is a creation of conflict.
RODNEY: What was that? I didn’t hear.
ELIAS: Duplicity is a creation of conflict.
ELIAS: And where you hold duplicity, you also hold conflict.” [session 328, October 03, 1998]
JAMES: “Could you tell me what the connection is between duplicity and separation?
ELIAS: Interesting question!
You have created a type of separation within this physical dimension between the focus and essence. You have created veils between these two aspects of essence. You have created veils between the different focuses of essence within physical dimensions. But as you have created this particular expression of separation, you have purposely created this action, that you may allow yourself the purity of experience within physical experiences in this dimension.
Now; the relation of duplicity in this area to separation is that as you have created this element of separation, you have also created a block in memory, or in other terms, you have forgotten many elements of essence. As you have forgotten elements of essence, you also have eliminated many of your own explanations to yourselves with respect to your reality within physical dimensions. As you offer yourselves explanations, you create belief systems. Within these belief systems and in conjunction with your separation, you have moved into identifications with yourselves that certain expressions of your reality are acceptable or good, and certain expressions are unacceptable or bad. Initially, this thought process has begun in creating a perception that certain actions or certain thoughts are more efficient within an individual’s reality than other thoughts and expressions.
Now; in one manner of speaking, there is an element that is correct in this area, but you have developed belief systems in this area, forgetting in your separation that your perception is highly individualized. Therefore, although your experiences within your focus shall be your creations of your reality and are formed through your perception, they are relative to you, and not necessarily relative to another individual entirely. There are certain areas that you collectively agree upon within your creations in this physical reality, although there are individuals that deviate within their perceptions even from your most basic qualities of your reality. Therefore, I express to you that your perceptions are highly individualized.
In this, as you have viewed certain experiences within one perception of one individual to be efficient or not efficient in your own creating of your reality, you also, within your separation and your forgetting of essence, have created the offering of these experiences to other individuals, and in that action have created judgments as to their execution of the same experiences ... or with respect to their denial in acceptance of your offering. Therefore, duplicity is quite conjunctive to your separation within physical focus.
JAMES: Hmm. In the coming shift, as I understand it, we’re going to be eliminating duplicity, and also, the separation is going to be lessened to some extent. But do those two things necessarily go hand-in-hand, or might we have devised a shift which does one of those two things without the other?
ELIAS: Let me clarify to you.
In actuality, this shift in consciousness shall be accomplishing less separation between focus and essence. Therefore, within the creation of physical reality, you shall hold a greater awareness of essence objectively, but you shall not be eliminating duplicity. This is a misunderstanding. You shall be accepting the belief system, but this is quite a different action from eliminating the belief system.
This physical reality which you have created within this dimension holds, as a basic element to its reality, belief systems. Therefore, if you are eliminating the belief systems, you also shall be discontinuing this particular physical reality, for you have created this reality in this manner for the purpose of this type of experience.
In this shift in consciousness, you are not eliminating belief systems, and this also is the expression with regard to the belief system of duplicity. You shall be neutralizing this belief system of duplicity by accepting the belief system, but you are not eliminating the belief system. It shall continue. It shall merely be the cage without the birds.” [session 364, February 24, 1999]
ELISABETH: “I want to ask you, do the feelings we have create the duplicity, or is it the other way around?
ELIAS: Which causes which? Do your emotions cause your duplicity, or does your duplicity cause your emotion? This is an expression of another aspect of belief system which we term to be cause and effect, which is that – an aspect of a belief system.
In actuality, your emotions do not cause duplicity, and duplicity does not cause your emotions. They are, figuratively speaking, different entities. One is a base element of your reality. One is a natural expression that you create within this physical dimension, and the other is a belief system. Therefore, they are different in expression and quality.
Now; as with all elements of your reality, duplicity is influencing of your expressions and your creations, for as a belief system, it – in like manner to all belief systems – is influencing of your perception, and your perception, as we have stated, is the element that creates your reality.
Now; your perception is quite changeable. Your perception is not an absolute. It is a very changeable element within your creation of your reality. All of your belief systems are influencing of your perception. Your perception is also influencing of your emotion.
In this, as I have stated, emotion is a base element of your reality. You have created this particular dimension of reality physically with certain base elements. These base elements are the facilitating factor in how you interact and create within this physical dimension.
Therefore, in like manner to the subject to which we have been discussing this evening, as duplicity is influencing and intertwined with all other belief systems, it couples itself with all other aspects of belief systems. Your belief systems subsequently may be influencing of your emotions, but they are not causing your emotions.
Your emotions are a natural expression that you create within this physical reality. They are not right, they are not wrong, they are not good, they are not bad. They are merely an expression that you create within this physical reality.
Your beliefs are quite influencing of your emotions, for your beliefs are influencing of your perception, and within your perception, you create definitions and identifications within your reality.
Therefore, your perception, influenced by your beliefs, views your creation of emotion and assesses certain expressions of emotion and defines to you what that emotion is, in very similar manner to the expression of how your perception evaluates and defines all of your physical creations.
In this, if you are looking to your physical creations within your physical form – within your perception as influenced through your beliefs coupled with duplicity – you define certain physical expressions as uncomfortable or bad and some physical expressions as pleasurable and good.
You may alter your perception of any expression within your physical creation and you may view that expression quite differently, and this is evidenced within your actual physical reality regardless of your mass belief systems.
You may identify through your perception the definition of physical pain, and you may define this within yourself as bad, as uncomfortable, as negative; an element of your reality which you wish to be eliminating of or changing. Another individual may create physical pain within their reality, and through their perception it is identified as pleasurable, and is not viewed as a negative element or an element to be eliminated, but to be perpetuated.
I have been expressing recently to many individuals the discussions that there are no absolutes, but you hold thought processes within your physical reality identifying certain elements of your reality as absolute.
I am offering you information, that you may allow yourselves to be understanding that there are no absolutes. All that you create within your physical reality is dependent upon your perception, and your perception is not an absolute. It is quite changeable.
In this, you look to your expressions of emotion, and you identify certain emotions as negative and uncomfortable, and you wish to be eliminating of these expressions.
Once again, we move in the direction of acceptance. This moves you into the direction of acceptance of self as prerequisite to acceptance of beliefs, for as I have stated, there are base elements within your reality which are not expressions of belief systems. You have created belief systems in conjunction with those base elements, but those base elements within themselves are not belief systems.
Your perception, your creation of your reality, in itself is not a belief system. Your energy in thought in itself is not a belief system. Your emotions in themselves are not a belief system. But you do create belief systems to be surrounding these base elements of your reality, and therefore you create influences of your perception which color your picture.
Now; in this, what I am expressing to you is that the color that you paint your picture with is not bad and matters not. It merely serves to be creating of the entirety of the picture. But you place certain colors within your pictures and you express a dislike for those colors, and the reason that you dislike those colors is that you hold a lack of acceptance of self first.
‘This particular color is a reflection of an element within myself that I do not accept, that I do not appreciate, that I do not like. Therefore, I wish to eliminate this color from my painting.’
But this is the point: in acceptance of self, you are not eliminating self. Therefore, you are not eliminating any expression or aspect of yourself. You are allowing yourselves to become aware of ALL of the colors within you and to be accepting of all of these colors, holding the recognition that each of these colors adds to your creation and is beneficial to the entirety of the picture.
Therefore, in duplicity and emotion, you experience certain emotions that through your perception you identify as sadness or anger, hurtfulness. These types of expressions of emotions you hold little acceptance of. These emotions you view through your perception as being wasteful of your energy. You view these types of emotions as very uncomfortable. You view these types of emotions in an evaluation of self. They serve, coupled with other expressions of emotions, as your measure stick of yourselves.
If you are creating joyful emotions, if you are creating what you identify and define as pleasurable emotions, you also mark on your measure stick that you are creating well, and therefore YOU are well, and therefore you are valued. If you are creating what you identify and define as negative emotions, you mark lower upon your measure stick of yourself, for you are not creating your reality efficiently and you may be creating your reality better. But these are the definitions that you hold in identification of emotion, which are offered to you through the influence of your beliefs.
You may be experiencing elements of your reality that you identify emotionally and define within your perception of your emotions as quite painful, and your automatic movement is to be discounting of self, that you are not creating your reality efficiently. Your automatic movement is retreat, for you engage the assessment – through your perception – of how other individuals shall view you, you assess within yourselves how you view yourselves, and you move into the automatic identification that this is uncomfortable, and therefore it must be eliminated.
Now; I shall express to you that as you are creating a perception of negativity in conjunction with elements of your reality, you are creating a thickness in energy. A thickness in energy is not bad either. It is merely a difference, which may also be measured within your perception, for thickness is bad and thin is good. Slow is bad and fast is good. Movement is good and non-movement is bad. Painful is bad, and all bad need be eliminated, for it is inefficient, it creates obstacles, it creates blocking of energy, it is a waste of energy, it is hurtful.
These are all expressions of your perception, but as I have stated, your perception is not an absolute, and all of these definitions are quite changeable.
Your psychology expresses to you to be embracing your fears and your torment and your painfulness, and this shall be eliminating of these expressions of emotion. I express to you, why shall you embrace any element that you are unaccepting of? (Laughter) If you are creating an interaction with a bird – of any aspect of duplicity – and it is biting of your hand, why shall you continue to offer your hand? Why shall you attempt to be embracing this bird if it is pecking at you? But you also need not be eliminating of this bird.
This bird is attempting to be gaining your attention, and this is your very efficient method of gaining your attention, for you shall pay attention! Your very clichés reflect this. You express to each other throughout your history that you shall oil the squeaky wheel. You shall pay little attention to the wheel which is not squeaky, but you shall offer your attention to the noisy wheel.
And if your emotions are creating through your perception uncomfortableness, this shall gain your attention! But you automatically move into the direction of eliminating and wishing these emotions gone, but they shall not disappear, for they are a base element of your reality. But you hold the ability to perceive them differently, and therefore their affectingness of you is different.
You may be experiencing what you identify as painful emotion, and if your perception turns and is no longer identifying and defining to you the terminology of painful, you may allow yourself to be experiencing that very same emotion in its same intensity, but you shall be responding differently.
You yourselves express, there is a fine line within your reality between pleasure and pain. I express to you, there is no line between pleasure and pain. It is merely a choice to be viewing from different angles. It IS the line. There is no line between. The emotion, the expression, IS the line, and you may view the line from different angles, and your response to the line shall be different.
And THIS is accomplished through the acceptance of self – the recognition that this also is an element of self, and there is no aspect of it that is unacceptable.
You may view within your reality the identification that you feel emotion in response to outside stimuli. As movement occurs within energy outside of yourself, you respond within an expression of emotion, and you view these responses to be automatic and without choice.
I express to you that you hold choice in your response to any element within your reality. You choose which direction to be moving your perception within. You are not dictated to by circumstances or other individuals.
Your reality is not creating you! Therefore, all that occurs within your reality is not creating you. YOU are creating all that is within your reality through choices, but you view in the reverse.
(Humorously) You view, regardless of what you express – that you BELIEVE you create your reality – in actuality, you believe that your reality creates you! And therefore, you are victim to your reality, for you are without choices. And therefore, you hold no control – another very large bird within these bird cages, the ominous control bird, and its twin of the infamous LACK of control bird! (Laughter) And they move quite efficiently together, and THEY are creating of your reality! You are not creating of your reality, for reality creates you. You do not create reality. (Very tongue in cheek)
You yourselves have created all of these beliefs! You yourselves have created all of these bird cages and all of the birds within them, and they have served you well throughout all of your reality, through millenniums, and they are not bad now any more than they have been bad previously within your reality.
You are changing your reality to be expanding your reality, but if you are to be expanding your reality, you also shall be allowing yourself acceptance of what you have created, and in this acceptance, you also recognize your responsibility – that you yourselves are creating your reality IN EVERY ASPECT OF IT, and that it is not creating of you.
And even now – as I have spoken to you for much time framework – within your humor, you express different words, that the universe is dealing you certain elements of reality that you are subject to. Even within your playfulness, you reflect what you believe, and what you believe is not necessarily that you create your reality, but that some cosmic element, some higher self, some ‘unconscious’ aspect is creating for you, for it is in control, and it is skipping merrily with you in tow OUT of control ... and there we view the twin birds once again! (Grinning, and a pause)
In this, as you look to self, as you move into the acceptance of self, you also recognize that there is no element of you or your reality that is broken, not within your thoughts, not within your emotions, and therefore, they are acceptable and they need not be fixed. They are merely an expression. They need not be altered; they need not be fixed. You merely may turn your attention within your perception and your definitions of your emotions.
As I have stated, you may continue to define the word painful, but within that definition, the explanation of painful may turn, and therefore your experience – which also is not absolute – may be quite altered, for your experiences also are a creation through your perception, and you may consistently and continuously be creating certain types of experiences to be reinforcing to yourselves that they do hold absoluteness, but this is merely your reinforcement of your beliefs.
ELISABETH: (Barely audible) Thank you.
ELIAS: You are very welcome.
Let me express to you, in this area of uncomfortableness and emotion, a reiteration that other individuals do not dictate your behavior or your reception or your responses. You hold choices. Although you may be within the whirlwind of our step two, you continue to hold choices.
In holding within the energy and stopping momentarily, you may be reminding of yourself that any other individual may be expressing in any manner that they are choosing, and this is not dictating of your choices. How you choose to be receiving of energy which is projected is YOUR choice. You are merely accustomed to creating in the familiarity of automatic responses, but you may alter those automatic responses. You may turn those automatic responses into different automatic responses.” [session 472, September 19, 1999]
ELIAS: “Guilt, I shall express to you – as I have expressed many times previously – is one of the two manifestations of energy within this physical dimension that you express that may be the most closely associated with a waste of energy. In actuality, there is no waste of energy. Therefore, I may not express to you definitively that the expression of guilt is absolutely a waste of energy, for no energy expression is wasted, so to speak.
But I shall express to you, were there any expression of a waste of energy, the expression of guilt and worry would be those. These two expressions of energy serve merely to perpetuate the belief system of duplicity. They reinforce all that you identify as negative.
They reinforce the expression of a discounting of self, a lack of acceptance of self, and they create an expression of devaluation of worth, which – in a manner of speaking, figuratively speaking – is an expression which is contrary to consciousness and essence.
I am not expressing that it is not a creation that may serve or that has served as beneficial to you within this physical dimension within different moments of your history, but I shall express to you, within consciousness, were there to be an expression of an unacceptable manifestation of energy, these expressions would be [the ones].
JOE: Whew! (Laughter)
GARY: Well, I know Seth had pointed out the two versions of guilt, one which he says is beneficial, which is just to let you know that this may be something that you shouldn’t do again, versus the kind of guilt that we have in our civilization, which just goes on and on and on forever, and you don’t release it.
ELIAS: I am understanding of the direction of this information, and I am understanding the purposefulness of this information.
I shall also express to you, in conjunction with the direction of flow of this particular forum this day, that this also is an insertion of an extra piece, so to speak – a complication of information purposefully offered for your understanding within a transitional point – that you may assess certain information in conjunction with your belief systems that shall be acceptable to you, which allows you a window to move into more of an acceptance of information that would be, so to speak, offered to you futurely.
This is that information. And I shall express to you that within this information that I offer to you – without complication, in its simplicity, and without distortion – any expression of guilt is unnecessary, and as I have stated, were there to be a waste of energy, this would be the expression of it in any form.
GARY: I guess you can’t say it any more clearly than that!
ELIAS: It is unnecessary to be incorporating guilt or worry within your focus!
You create worry in the discounting of self and your abilities and your lack of trust of self, that you do not hold the ability to be accomplishing in a successful, in your terms, or adequate manner.
You incorporate worry in the expression of what you identify as a lack of control. Control, I shall express to you, is an illusion! This is a manifestation through your perception, which is directly influenced by your beliefs, and is NOT in actuality an actual thing.
There is no control. It is merely an illusion that you provide yourselves, that you may offer to yourselves some element of permission to be manifesting certain directions within your physical focus that you wish to be manifesting ... but it is not entirely successful!
Worry is the perpetuation of a lack of trust of self. Guilt is the perpetuation of a lack of acceptance of self.
I have stated previously and shall do so now, trust and acceptance are not synonymous. They are two different movements. They are two different expressions. You may be trusting of certain elements of yourself and your abilities and your creations, and not be incorporating acceptance of yourself. Therefore, they are not the same in expression.
Worry attaches, in the aspect of duplicity, to trust. Guilt attaches in the manner of a parasite, in YOUR identification of a parasite, to your acceptance of self. Therefore, these are expressions that offer you, in your assessment of negative and positive, no positive payoff.
They are also unnecessary, for there is no need for their generation, for what shall occur within your physical focus that shall be an acceptable expression of guilt, other than your belief systems? What perpetuates this expression of guilt? Not yourself, in actuality, in your natural state, not your natural flow of energy, but your incorporation of belief systems and shoulds and should nots.
GARY: Is there no such thing?
ELIAS: They are a reality as you create them to be, and what I am offering to you is that they need not be, that there IS reality beyond shoulds and should nots.” [session 510, December 04, 1999]
FRANK: “... One other thing I want to ask you about, it’s sort of the last thing here, and this actually might require a lot of discussion so maybe you can sort of give me a quick overview of it. One of the things I’ve wondered about for a long time is in concert with this idea of it matters not, no one is a victim, nothing happens that somebody doesn’t create for themselves.
As you know, generally speaking most individuals in our society believe in certain moral concepts, and so we teach our children, for example, don’t lie, don’t cheat, don’t hurt other people, physical violence is not good. But yet if we have this concept of it doesn’t matter, then is it irrelevant to talk about these things or try to instill these concepts in children or in other people? How does all that fit together?
ELIAS: Quite literally, my friend, it genuinely does matter not.
For as you recognize, your reality is generated through your perception, and each individual incorporates their own unique perception. In this, in concentrating your attention upon self and not concerning yourself with the expressions of other individuals, you do not lend energy to the perpetuation of expressions that you do not prefer.
For the most part within your physical reality, individuals generally choose expressions in association with their preferences. You may express within your family unit what you associate as guidelines for behavior with the children within your family and with your partner. But if you allow yourself to genuinely examine this information and these concepts, you may also allow yourself the recognition of what is meant by there are no absolutes.
You express certain guidelines of morality, what you perceive to be honesty, truthfulness, right conduct, appropriate behavior, ethics, but another individual may perceive those expressions that you view as correct or valuable as inconsequential. You may express your beliefs that you should not incorporate the action of stealing, and you may define what you associate as stealing; another individual may define it quite differently. You may express that right behavior is to be expressing honestly and your definition of honesty may be specifically defined, and another individual may perceive it quite differently.
In expressing rigidity in morality and in expressing rules of behaviors, you are also reinforcing the belief in absolutes. You may express preferences and opinions within your reality, but also recognize that those are relative to you and your perception and also create an acceptance in which you do not generate judgment concerning tremendous differences in association with other individuals’ perceptions and choices.
This is not quite entirely familiar yet, for you continue to grapple with the concept that you do generate every aspect, every moment, every manifestation of your reality – even other individuals – through your perception individually, and that you actually do create every aspect of your reality and that you choose it. These are not entirely accepted concepts yet and therefore are not entirely generated as your reality yet. They SHALL be, but within this present now they are not yet. But you also may offer yourself conceptually the recognition of how conflict is created in the lack of acceptance and in the continued association with absolutes, that there are absolute rights and absolute wrongs, and that an individual does not create every aspect of their reality, which you justify with the absolute rights and wrongs.
FRANK: So, really what you’re saying here is that again if you really, really accept this idea that we create it all, none of it matters what anybody else’s morality or actions or ways of living are.
FRANK: Well, that’s a tough one for me at least, and I think for a lot of other people, too.
ELIAS: You are correct.” [session 1088, May 23, 2002]
VERONICA: “Elias, is it reasonable to expect that the financial markets worldwide will collapse within a short period of time? If so, what period of time? (Laughter)
ELIAS: Is it reasonable to expect? No. This is associated with religious beliefs in regard to prophecies and predictions of disaster and events of tremendous proportion. You have already created events of tremendous proportion and you have allowed yourselves to witness your creation of trauma en masse, and you do not prefer trauma and you prefer to avoid trauma. You are not collapsing or generating destruction, but shifting.
VERONICA: But you, before...
ELIAS: I am aware. You shall be shifting – you already are – in association with exchange and currency, but not necessarily in the dramatic terms of destruction, rather shifting into different types of expressions.
VERONICA: I don’t understand the response with regard to the stock market and currency.
ELIAS: And shall it collapse? No.
VERONICA: So there could still be an investment for the future? Will there still be a financial transaction by institutions and individuals?
MIKE: So what you’re saying is that we’re going to disassemble it ourselves? It’s not just going to collapse on its own?
MALE: And it will become something else.
VERONICA: I don’t know if I can express this adequately. But in looking at the market now, I see that those companies that are engaged in the destruction and then the construction of several areas in the world and the oil companies continue to do very well. I have always felt that it would be wrong to invest in such companies.
But in continuing with that, if the people in Saudi Arabia chose to be born there, to experience that, and if our politicians chose it and it’s a mass endeavor, then maybe I should not place a moral outlook on my financial dollar and I should go along with it. Because if that person chose to live there – I mean, who knows where I was in a past life – but I chose not to be there. But maybe this is for me now – it IS for me now – so maybe I can invest in a Philip Morris or in a Bechtel or in an Exxon-Mobil and not let it bother me.
VERONICA: Wow! I have been struggling with that for so long.
ELIAS: This is merely a restriction that you generate within yourself in association with your judgments that some institutions, some expressions, are good and some are bad.
VERONICA: But I generate it in myself.
ELIAS: Correct, and that generates limitation. There is no good and bad, actually. I am recognizing that you do incorporate this belief system of duplicity, and what you are expressing is an example of what we discussed earlier, in recognizing that you do incorporate this belief system of duplicity, which expresses good/bad/right/wrong.
But you may acknowledge that belief and you may choose what you prefer. You may continue to incorporate your opinion in relation to your preference, and also recognize that other individuals incorporate different perceptions, and their perception creates their reality, and it is not right or wrong, either. It is their choice and their preference. Their preference, their choice, is not absolute, and neither is yours. Your beliefs are not truth. In offering yourself choice and acceptance, view the freedom that you offer yourself also.
VERONICA: Yes, and I can remove that shackle!” (Elias laughs) [session 1116, June 16, 2002]
PAUL: ... Just one more question then for today, old friend. (Elias laughs) The idea of – let me frame the question, I realize that’s so important in the way you answer – in the context of this acorn-sapling-tree developmental stages in time (Elias nods several times), from this focus of attention, from the essence focus of attention, it’s a simultaneity, recognizing that – as we go through that, the ten belief systems that you’ve presented to us (2) as general areas of beliefs that work together are present in the acorn, they’re present in the sapling, they’re present in the tree to different degrees, and therefore….
ELIAS: Not to different degrees. They are all present continuously. The distinction is that they are not all expressed.
PAUL: Right. Okay. And, okay….
ELIAS: They are….
PAUL: As they get expressed, as we develop and go through our developmental stages – and this is a moral question (Elias nods). Okay, this is a tricky one. This is duplicity, the belief system of duplicity is present. And let me just ask you this question – in your context, the belief system of duplicity would be the area where we would look at morals and ethical belief systems?
ELIAS: (Nods) Yes.
PAUL: Where we judge good and bad?
PAUL: As opposed to the other nine, which deal with relationships, I mean, and that as you stated the belief system of duplicity is nested within the other nine…
ELIAS: (Nods throughout) Correct.
PAUL: …and so that moral judgment is always present…
PAUL: …and with our relationships, with emotion, sexuality, and on with the others. So all I’m just trying to get is that this belief system of duplicity, it changes in time also. It goes through a, what we could loosely call, an acorn, sapling, and tree stage.
ELIAS: That would be quite figurative…
PAUL: (Laughs) Okay.
ELIAS: …for it is not a development. Do not misunderstand. You incorporate all of the beliefs within all of the belief systems from the moment that you choose to be participating in this particular physical reality. Now; you express relatively few beliefs within each belief system. I am aware that it appears to each of you that you express many beliefs in association with each belief system, but in relation to the countless beliefs which are contained within each belief system, relatively speaking, you express few.
Now; those are not absolute either. They change. The beliefs do not change, but which beliefs are expressed may change. Some beliefs you continue to express throughout the entirety of your focus, but some you do not. You may move your attention in association with different directions that you incorporate within one focus and that may alter which beliefs are expressed.
An indicator of this that you may obviously objectively recognize is preferences. Preferences change. You may incorporate certain preferences in one time framework and within another time framework you may incorporate other preferences. Preferences are merely preferred expressed beliefs. And in viewing how your preferences change, you also indicate to yourself that other expressed beliefs also change and may become non-expressed beliefs and exchanged for other beliefs to be expressed. (3)
PAUL: That makes sense.
ELIAS: This is the significance of genuinely generating an objective understanding of what you actually incorporate within this physical dimension – that beliefs are not your enemy and that they are not to be eliminated, but rather that you move your awareness to a wider expression and recognize that you actually incorporate a myriad of beliefs to choose; which rather than your familiar association with beliefs in automatically viewing them as bad, the point is to recognize that they are an integral expression and design of this physical dimension and to be incorporating optimum movement and creativity within this physical dimension to allow yourself to be incorporating the choice of all of them. Use them rather than attempting to eliminate them. And the manner in which you use them efficiently is to neutralize them in association with judgment.
Now; as I have stated, duplicity is a belief system also, and it incorporates beliefs also. And those are not to be eliminated either, but rather to be recognized in relation to preference or the lack of preference, not in absolutes. But you may continue to incorporate your opinion and your preferences, knowing that they are relative to you, and not an absolute.
PAUL: Right, and at some point, at some point in linear terms, the awareness, the focus of attention becomes aware of what you just said – preference, opinion – as opposed to absolute.
PAUL: So it’s not inherent in the acorn stage, necessarily, or is it?
ELIAS: That awareness?
PAUL: Yes, that awareness.
ELIAS: The potential of that awareness, yes, is.
PAUL: But oftentimes, more often than not, that potential is not anywhere near fully realized in the preconventional stages.
ELIAS: (Nods) Correct. In this time framework and throughout your history, you are correct. But this is the reason that you are incorporating this shift in consciousness.
PAUL: So are you suggesting, then, that post-shift (4) that the preconventional stages will be more aware of that potential awareness, will be more fully manifest in the preconventional stages?
PAUL: Oh, that’s good news. See, there, I made a judgment! (Both laugh) But that makes sense as far as the shift, and that would be a huge shift from where we are presently.
ELIAS: (Nods) Yes, you are quite correct. (5)
PAUL: And just the last question then. The ten belief systems – they’re general, you know, we could divide them up other ways too, I suppose, but it covers a spectrum – those ten are inherent in the blueprints.
PAUL: So that as an essence, when it manifests, say, 1200 focuses – woof! – those ten are in all 1200 focuses.
ELIAS: (Nods) Yes.
PAUL: Yeah, okay, that’s consistent with your model as you’ve explained it so far. Well, I guess that does it for me today, old friend!
ELIAS: Ha ha ha! Very well. (Paul laughs) I shall be anticipating our next discussion. Ha ha ha!
PAUL: And so shall I.” [session 1357, May 29, 2003]
ELIAS: “Association: an association is what you form or what you create in relation to an experience. You generate an experience and you create an assessment of the experience, which includes a judgment, good or bad. Once that association is formed, it generally remains with you. Yes, it does involve many of the elements that you have described, but simply and clearly, an association is the assessment that you generate in relation to an experience that includes a judgment.
The reason this is important to define and to understand is that you all generate many, many, many associations. You do not generate associations with future, for you have not experienced that yet. You do generate associations with past experiences and with present experiences. But past experiences and the associations attached to them are very affecting and are the most confusing in the present, for they confuse you with your present experiences, coloring them in relation to past experiences.
I have been expressing to individuals for a time framework now of paying attention to your associations and questioning yourself not whether they are real, for your experiences are real, but whether your associations are valid in the present with your experience. For many of your associations are past associations that are influencing and coloring your present experiences, and that becomes confusing and can create significant conflict. That is what is occurring in many situations in relation to this present wave.
Also, remember, this present wave is addressing to ALL FORMS of communication. This is a base element of your reality. It is a base element of the blueprint of your reality: physical and emotion, physical manifestations and communication – not feelings, communications. This wave is more intense than any of the previous waves, and it is more affecting. In this, many individuals are experiencing difficulty and unusualness and fear in relation to the intensity of the energy of this wave. It is different from other waves in consciousness, and as it is one of the base elements of your reality, it is very powerful.
This is not merely addressing to inner communications or outer communications. It is not merely addressing to communication that you generate between each other in your own species. It is ALL communications, in any form. It can be communications with creatures, which generate very different language than you. It can be with your planet, which also generates a different language than yourselves. It can be with any living expression in your reality. And it is challenging, for there are many, many differences. In that, there can be significant confusion, for you all automatically interpret other languages through your own, but your own language may not be what is being expressed by other manifestations. Therefore, it is important to pay attention.” [session 2658, October 25, 2008]
ELIAS: “Good afternoon! Welcome! This day we shall be discussing attachments. Are any of you aware presently of attachments to your genuine identity and what they are?
ELIAS: (Laughs) In a manner of speaking, but some are more significant than others. One very significant aspect of this shift in consciousness which is occurring presently – a movement of your individual shifting, which is also being evidenced en mass – is moving into a recognition of your genuine identity. What is your genuine identity?
Your genuine identity is that you stripped apart from all of the attachments that you think of as being a part of your identity, but they are not. And what is an attachment to your identity? An attachment is associated with your experiences, with what you have learned and what you have been taught. Some of these factors of what you have learned or what you have been taught, and also what you yourselves have generated in relation to your own experiences, become attachments to your identity.
One simple example that would be associated with experiences – most individuals generate experiences in regard to relationships, and you generate associations with those experiences. I have defined previously that associations are the assessments that you generate in relation to any experience. You do this with every experience; you create an association. Some are more obvious and stronger than others, but with every experience, you generate an association.
With that evaluation of your experience, you generate an assessment of whether the experience is good or bad. Therefore, an association is an assessment with the attachment of good or bad in relation to an experience: “I kissed a girl, and it was good.” (Laughter) The kiss is the experience; the association is the evaluation of the experience: “The kiss was good.”
Now; in relation to experiences and associations, many times you generate repeated experiences or you generate experiences that are very similar to each other: “I kissed a girl several times, and each time it was good.” (Laughter) In that situation, what you are doing is you are reinforcing the association. In that situation, the association becomes stronger and stronger – not that you always engage thinking about the association, but it is registered. Your body consciousness stores all memory; therefore, all of your experiences are stored in memory with your body consciousness. If all of your experiences in memory are stored with the body consciousness, so also your associations, whether the experience was good or bad.
In this, some associations and experiences become so familiar and so much a part of what you do that they become attachments to your identity.
JEREMY: Would this be in relation to shrines, that you talked about previously?
ELIAS: It can be, but not necessarily. They can become shrines, but they do not begin as being shrines. They are attachments.
In this, an individual may express that in regard to relationships they are an individual that enjoys being very playful. That may not necessarily actually be a part of the individual’s genuine identity. It may be a part of their experience. It may be that in their experience, repeatedly what they enjoy most of all in relationships is to generate playful relationships or to be silly or to be very active. That may or may not be an actual part of the individual’s genuine identity, but it most definitely will be a part of an attachment that is formed from the individual’s experiences.
Or “I am not very accomplished at relationships; I do not function well within them; I always seem to generate disruptions and cannot seem to create a lasting ongoing relationship.” This may not be the individual’s genuine identity, but it is their experience. Therefore, they generate an attachment to their identity and express that that is them: “This is me; I cannot generate a successful relationship.” For, the individual’s experience is that they have not been successful yet in attempting to generate a relationship. That is not who they are, but they may begin to generate this addition or this attachment to their identity – which is actually a part of their experiences, not necessarily who they are. That is an example of EXPERIENCE being an attachment.
There are other types of attachments to your identity, elements that are learned or that are taught. Learned is not always taught. You can, in your terms, learn without being instructed. An individual may generate a perception and an assessment of themself that they are clumsy. For in their experience, they generate a tendency to perhaps not pay attention very closely to what they are doing, and perhaps they generate an awkwardness physically. Therefore, in that, they LEARN in relation to their body consciousness, and they generate an assessment, and with that assessment, they attach to their identity: “I am not physically coordinated.” That may not necessarily be accurate or correct, and it may not be a part of their genuine identity, but they have attached it to their identity. Now the individual associates “This is a part of me. This is a part of who I am.” No, not necessarily.
One very large attachment that will be being addressed to that you all share is the attachment that is the gem of yourselves and of your societies. This gem is very precious; you ALL very much value this gem. This ATTACHMENT is independence. You all want independence. You all value independence. You all want to be independent, and you will sacrifice for independence, for this is a very prized gem. And what do you equate independence with? Freedom.
This term “independence” is almost synonymous to you with freedom. I will express to you presently, independence is NOT freedom and bears little resemblance to actual freedom. Independence is binding. For with independence, it incorporates its own tentacles, which create its own attachments. With independence comes responsibility and control and right choices. These are the foundation of independence. If you are independent, you must generate right choices. You must be responsible, and you must be in control of that independence to maintain it. And the maintenance of independence is an ongoing job! How do you perceive the term “job”? Work. Independence is a job. It requires considerable energy to maintain.
In this, let me express that whatever the attachments are that you generate so very strongly with your identities, we are not discussing this subject to eliminate it. It is not that independence is entirely bad, for there are many aspects of independence, or any attachment, that are beneficial and that do serve you. But there are also aspects of attachments that are binding and that are obstacles and that are a hindrance.
With independence, one of the obstacles and one of the hindrances is that independence is a moving away-from. You do not become independent-TO, you are independent-FROM. Independence is the action of moving away from some aspect of your reality. Generally, what you think of that you are moving away from is some type of obstacle or some type of restriction – but independence is a restriction. For one of the largest restrictions that is expressed in independence is that it discourages interconnection and it discourages receiving. For, why shall you receive? You can do yourself. Why shall you be interconnected? You can be yourself. You can accomplish yourself. There is no binding or holding upon you if you are independent – but is there?
If you incorporate a home and you maintain this home for you are independent, this home now is your responsibility, and in that, those three factors are very much in play. When you are independent, all that is within your environment, all that is within your focus is within your charge. Whatever you associate with your independence is within your charge. You are responsible for it. Therefore, you are also in control of, and therefore, you must generate right choices in relation to what you control and what you are responsible for. What are those right choices? This generates tremendous confusion and conflict for many individuals, for it is a continuous struggle to decipher what are the right choices to engage in my independence.
When you are entirely independent, you are less likely to allow helpfulness from other individuals. You are less likely to allow receiving gifts – unless the are warranted. But if they are not warranted, if they are merely offered freely with no reason, that is not entirely necessary. “It is not necessary for you to offer me a gift! I can offer myself a gift! I do not need from you. I can care for myself. I do not need help, for I can solve my dilemmas.” And even when you do allow for helpfulness, you allow that when you are more in the direction of desperate or when you perceive that you entirely cannot solve a problem yourself. Then you will engage or enlist helpfulness, on your terms.
Therefore, there are many aspects of independence that are actually binding. But it is not merely independence; that is one attachment. It is a very LARGE attachment. It is one that all of you share and that all of you view as a very precious gem, but there are many different attachments. The point of this subject is to understand that who you are is not necessarily what you do. Who you are is not what you have learned. It is not what you have been taught.
Another example: an individual may, in their genuine self, generate a direction in their own free-flow of their expression that they incorporate no actual preference in relation to relationships and partners. Perhaps the individual naturally expresses in a manner to not necessarily couple themself, and perhaps the individual in their natural identity and expression, if allowed, would generate many relationships with many individuals and would not necessarily couple themself with any. But that same individual, in relation to what they have learned and what they have been taught, may reach an age of early 20s, shall we say, and shall move in a direction of seeking out a partner and couple themselves with this partner with the plan and the idea of being coupled, engaging a family, incorporating a home, generating a particular career. This is what the individual has been taught, what the individual is “supposed to do.” Many individuals do engage these types of actions and are comfortable with that and are moving in a natural direction, but many are not.
This is merely one example, in which that individual may generate those experiences and may choose those directions and may not necessarily be entirely comfortable. They may tolerate what they are doing – I would not necessarily express that they accept it – but this is what is expected, this is what they expect of themself, this is what you do, and therefore, this is what I shall do. And they do, and they may be safe. They may be, at times, neutrally comfortable. The individual may at times generate a genuine comfort in moments, but overall they are existing. They are not honoring their genuine self. They do not even know who their genuine self is. For, what they see of their genuine self is all of the attachments.
Now; what is the point of being aware of the attachments? The point is when you know and you can identify these attachments to your identity, you can also recognize this is not necessarily actually me; this is what I do or this is what I WANT to do, not what I MUST do. Attachments create the have-tos, the musts, the shoulds, the should-nots. The genuine identity does not incorporate the shoulds, the should nots, the have-tos, the musts, the musn’ts. Those are not associated with your genuine self.
Now; this is not to say that you do not choose those aspects, those expressions of attachments, or even that you do not want to choose some of them – you do! There are aspects of all of your attachments that you prefer, that you actually like, that you want to express. Therefore, they are not necessarily bad, but they are limiting if you are not aware of them. How many individuals discount themselves very strongly and then justify it, expressing, “But this is myself; this is who I am; I cannot change that.” Yes, you can. For your genuine self is not as limited as the attachments that you place upon yourselves.
These attachments can either be a very hard encasing shell that you cannot shine through, or they can be adorning decorations. They create interesting and wondrous and curious patterns that you shine through. But in many situations, they are the hard shell that is not allowing you to express yourselves genuinely and freely in who you actually are.
Some individuals are naturally observers and are comfortable and naturally express not engaging. But they may be within the midst of a group of individuals, and other individuals may be pressing to engage. Therefore, they do – for they should, SHOULD be speaking with other individuals. But that may not necessarily be your genuine self. Therefore, what SHOULD you be doing? And why SHOULD you engage in a manner that is not natural to you?
Some individuals are naturally flamboyant, and they may be in a group of individuals that want them to be quiet! (Laughter) Very well, why should you be quiet? It is not your natural expression.
In that, yes, you do interact with each other, you do generate guidelines in groups, and you do generate guidelines in behaviors. But in knowing what your natural movement is, what your natural expression is, you can also choose with whom and where you interact. If you are not naturally an individual that enjoys being quiet, you will not choose to be in situations in which you are expected to be quiet. If you are an individual that is naturally quiet and not as interactive, you will not choose to be in situations in which you must be interactive and engaging. If you are aware of your own independence, you can choose how to express that – not to your own detriment but to your benefit, how you can be interconnected, not alone.
How many individuals present here have experienced moments in which they feel very alone? If any of you were to express to myself that you did not (chuckles), I would express to you that you are delusional! (Laughter) Ah, yes! And when is it, generally speaking, that you feel most alone?
KEN G.: When I’m discounting myself.
ELIAS: Very much so. When you are judging yourselves, you feel very alone. When you perceive you are generating a wrong action, you feel very disconnected and alone, for no other individual would understand and no other individual incorporates your experience. Therefore, you are very alone. When you cannot decipher what you perceive to be a significant problem that you are generating, you feel alone.
You are NEVER alone. I would express, although there are no absolutes, this would be the closest absolute. It is almost not possible for you to be alone. For you are consciousness; therefore, you are always interconnected. Whether you allow yourself to recognize that and acknowledge that or not is a different situation, but you are NEVER alone.
Now; this is not to say that what you feel is not very real. It is. Is it valid? No. Does it matter that it’s not valid? In many situations, not always. Do you care if it is not valid in many situations when you are feeling very alone? No. Can you ask yourself, “Is this feeling valid?” Yes, you can, and can you express to yourself, “No, this is not necessarily valid”? Does that generally matter to you at that moment? For, you are feeling what you are feeling. No, it generally does not matter to you that it may not be valid.
LYNDA: Wow, I didn’t know that you knew that. (Laughter) But you do! Thanks.
ELIAS: In this, what is significant to remember is that although you are each very unique and individual and perhaps even somewhat independent, you are not alone and you are not one thread by yourselves. You are a fabric that is all interwoven, and distance or time is not a factor in this fabric. Physical proximity matters not in this fabric. You cannot be separated out from it. And when one thread in that fabric turns dull, the whole of the fabric begins to stop shimmering. When one thread of the fabric glows, the rest of the fabric shines also.
It may not SEEM to be this in your individual experiences, but the reason that it does not SEEM to be this is that you become so very caught in your own web of attachments and isolation and independence, which creates this perception of disconnection. But you are NOT disconnected. Yes?
PAT B.: As you talk about independence, I keep going back to the idea of our country, our country having the Declaration of Independence and what we were pushing away from. As we are pushing away and we think that we are so separate and we have such a great responsibility being the United States of America, we’re actually pulling ourselves away from the rest of the world in our independence, separating ourselves.
ELIAS: And what do you do, as your country? Those three factors are very much in play, are they not? Right choices, responsibility and control.
PAT B.: Exactly, and that’s where we are right now. That’s where so much of the world is looking down on us, because we have separated ourselves, putting ourselves on a pedestal because of our independence.
PAT B.: So everything you’re saying here, I’m relating to as a country...
ELIAS: And you do that individually!
PAT B.: ...not just as individuals but in mass.
ELIAS: Yes, very much so.
JOHN: I think you can see that internally in the health care debate, as well.
ELIAS: Very much so. it is very much being reflected in more of an obvious manner now, for you are addressing to it now.
PAT B.: And we stand behind the Declaration of Independence and who we are and what we are, and we’re not getting our freedom. What we’re doing is we’re separating ourselves and becoming more responsible to others.
ELIAS: Correct, and more disconnected rather than interconnected.
Freedom is gained and expressed in interconnection. This is where your freedom lies, in being interconnected, in knowing that whatever you may not necessarily generate an ability to do another individual does and complements you. Therefore, you are accomplishing. And whenever, in your very realistic terms, you fall, there is another to help you up, for you ARE interconnected.
When you generate an action, it is not merely theory or hypothetical that what you do is felt a world away – it IS. It IS affecting. What you do that you perceive is merely your own individual small experience and does not touch any other individual, and that no other individuals benefit from what you are doing for they do not even know what you are doing, they do. They may not know your name, they may not know your face, but they feel your energy.
Energy is a very real expression. It is as real as your physical bodies. It is bigger than your physical bodies, and it is freer than your physical bodies and your intellect, for it knows no boundaries. It can move in any direction and span any distance. Your energy, being in this room presently this day, reaches to the farthest extent of your universe that you cannot even see. But it is present.
The point is what you do with that energy. You are EACH – I cannot emphasize this strongly enough, whether you believe it or not, which we shall also be discussing, what you believe – EACH of you incorporates equal strength to any society. However strong you perceive a collective to be in a society, each of you individually is equally as strong and incorporates equal ability to accomplish.
Another example of a current situation in your reality with your economy, with your global situation and in this particular country, there are individuals – are there not, Catherine? – that regardless of what the economy appears to be or how many employments or jobs there are not can create the precise job that is wanted and doing precisely what you desire to do. Correct?
ELIAS: Correct, regardless that the society around you is expressing doom and gloom and that this is not the time framework to be engaging certain actions, for it is all very negative.
You are equally as strong as your government. Regardless of how many individuals incorporate that mass, your one individual self is equally as strong. It is equally as strong as any society, and you can accomplish whatever you choose to do, whenever you choose to do it. It is merely a matter of removing some of your own obstacles – your own cliché of “moving out of your own way” – and in that, your own way is your own attachments, allowing them not to be such very strong incredible clamps upon you, but rather flowing materials that are decorations rather than boxes that trap you, that allow you genuine freedom in your interconnectedness.
How many times have I expressed to all of you that in relation to manipulating energy, if you want to accomplish a particular action in manipulating energy how much easier and more efficient and more quickly you can accomplish that if you pool energy? All of you are familiar with that term, pooling energy. What is that? That is interconnected. You accomplish much quickly, much more efficiently, effectively and stronger when you are interconnected than you do when you separate yourselves out to be alone. (Quietly) And you are not alone.
Another point in this which is also connected with what we were expressing in relation to feeling alone and when you feel alone and questioning yourself is “is this valid?” Does it matter if it is valid? What is significant is what you believe in that moment – not what your beliefs are, but what you believe in the moment that you are experiencing. This holds for whatever your experience is, but it is very important in moments when you are uncomfortable, you are distressed, you are disconnected, you are feeling alone. What are you believing at that moment? For whatever you believe, you trust; you do not question. You very strongly, almost implicitly trust what you believe. Therefore, it is significant to question yourself: “In this moment, what do I believe? What do I believe is occurring? What do I believe about myself? What do I believe about my world, about other individuals?” For, that is what you trust in that moment.
Also, paying attention to what you believe can very strongly but very easily reinforce your recognition of trust. We discuss trust considerably and frequently. Trust, in some capacities for many individuals, can be somewhat elusive: “What is trust? How do I know that I am trusting?”
One manner in which you know you are trusting is to ask yourself what you believe, for you do trust that and how easily you express that. It does not incorporate much effort or work. In whatever you believe, you merely believe it, and that is a very strong example of what you trust and how you trust. If I believe this, I trust it. This is a manner in which you can evaluate with yourselves how you are trusting, what you trust, what you do not trust, and a manner in which it is easy to define what you are trusting and what you are not trusting in relation to yourselves also: “What do I believe about myself? What do I not believe about myself? Those are what I trust and what I do not trust about myself.” They can be very telling, but they can be very helpful in you generating more clarity in relation to your genuineness, who you are and what choices you want to engage, rather than merely engaging automatically.
JEREMY: ... Well, as we all know, I love to talk, but I’m going to do something a little bit different this time. I’d like you to address possibly how vulnerability and people at large viewing it as a weakness, how that works into independence and the openness that vulnerability creates that people fear, yadda-yadda. Now you take the floor. I’ve already done my song and dance.
ELIAS: (Laughs) Therefore, your question and subject matter is “how vulnerability associates with independence”?
JEREMY: Yes, in the sense that if you’re independent you have a strength to yourself, but if you’re vulnerable and you’re relying on all these other individuals, that creates an openness that most people view as a weakness.
ELIAS: Very well. First of all, it is a matter of defining independence and recognizing that dependence is not actually the reverse of independence, that dependence is an entirely different expression and is not actually related to independence, contrary to what you think of it.
Dependence generally is expressed in individuals that are significantly to severely discounting themselves and their abilities, and generate the perception that they cannot accomplish actions themselves. Therefore, they turn their attention outside of themselves for approval, for abilities, and in that, they move in a direction of reliance upon other individuals to be generating actions for them in relation to their tremendous self-discounting.
Independence is an entirely different subject, for individuals can severely discount themselves and also continue to be independent. Independence is more an action in which individuals generate this perception of what you term to be self-reliance. In that, this is the reason that individuals prize this expression so very much. For in one manner of speaking, it does allow the individual to show, in a manner of speaking, their abilities, to express their abilities. Therefore, that would be the aspect of independence that you would term to be good or beneficial.
But it is also generated in extreme, and therefore creates the situation of disconnect and not acknowledging that interconnection – not merely with other individuals, but interconnection with All That Is, interconnection with all of your environment, with your world, with your universe, with consciousness regardless of how it is manifest. You are interconnected with it all. You are interconnected with a mountain, with a stream, with the air and with the universe as you see it or as you perceive it – not merely other individuals, although other individuals are a significant part of what you are interconnected with.
Now; in relation to vulnerability, that can be expressed in either situation. In actuality, vulnerability would be less expressed with individuals that you would term to be dependent. For although surfacely they appear or they present the facade or the camouflage of being more vulnerable, in actuality they are not. These individuals generally are expressing more shielding and therefore more boundaries, more of blockages, more walls in relation to that factor of interconnectedness. They allow less interconnectedness. Regardless that they surfacely are enlisting other individuals for what appears to be helpfulness, what they are doing is they are enlisting other individuals’ abilities and their expressions, and substituting them as their own.
In this, they are not expressing a vulnerability or an openness, for generally speaking they do not want other individuals to see them. They want to be hidden. They do not want you to see their vulnerability or their openness, for that merely would enhance and emphasize what they are already discounting within themselves – a lack of their own abilities, or how they perceive them.
In relation to independence, it can move in either direction. If an individual is genuinely recognizing their interconnection with other individuals and with All That Is, they can be expressing a genuine vulnerability and openness and not be threatened, for they are also expressing confidence and a satisfaction within themselves. When they are comfortable themselves, then it is easy to allow that interconnectedness with other individuals. Generally speaking, when you are uncomfortable with yourself, you also block that interconnection with other individuals, which also lends to that feeling of aloneness.
In this, if an individual is expressing independence in relation to the attachment in the manner that we were discussing, that can create a block in relation to vulnerability, for the individual can be closed within themself and not allowing themself to recognize that interconnectedness with All That Is, and therefore, they are generating considerable energy merely maintaining their own independence and not allowing for that openness and that interconnectedness.
Vulnerability is not a negative. It is not an open invitation to be hurt. Vulnerability is an expression of openness that allows you to gain. It allows you to receive. Contrary to religious beliefs that express “giving is much better than receiving,” I would disagree. Receiving is the ultimate gift that you can offer to yourselves, for there is so much richness in your reality that receiving is merely an action of allowing yourself to absorb that richness, to participate with that richness. It is not always that it generates the action of giving a thing to one another. Receiving is an action of allowance. It is yourself allowing yourself to connect, to draw-in from outwardly.
We discuss considerably how important it is to be paying attention to yourselves and to be aware of what is occurring inwardly with yourselves, but you are not participating in a reality in isolation. You are not one individual that occupies the entirety of your earth. There are many, many, many, many, many of you, and you all are interacting together, and you all affect each other, as I expressed previously. Whether you are objectively aware of it or not, you are affecting of each other in manners that you would not even generally comprehend, but in this, in an expression of independence, knowing that you are interconnected and in that interconnection that other individuals are not set upon being intrusive or hurtful to you.
This is also a significant point in relation to vulnerability. Individuals are leery of expressing that openness and vulnerability, for you do automatically associate that that creates an open door for any other individual to be hurtful or to be intrusive or to take advantage. No individual can be intrusive, hurtful or take advantage of you unless you allow them to do so. Generally speaking, when you allow them to do so, you are already projecting an energy of discounting yourself, which is drawing that action to you. Long before another individual approaches you in some manner that is distressing or disturbing or hurtful or annoying, you have already been projecting that energy within yourself and are drawing that, are attracting that to you. Therefore, you create it.
In this, genuine vulnerability is a genuine expression of openness. When individuals express that they are hurt or they are intruded upon, they are not expressing an openness. Openness requires a prerequisite of acknowledgment of yourself, of your worth, a recognition of your own value. An expression of vulnerability, in your terms, in which an individual is expressing, “I am being very open,” and the individual thusly experiences some hurtful action, no, this is not a genuine openness; this is a false openness. It is a facade. It is what you think you are being, being open: “I am allowing this other individual to interact with me.” Allowing another individual to interact with you is not necessarily being open. You are continuously allowing other individuals to interact with you.
If you were to actually look at, visually see, your own energy fields while you are interacting with other individuals, that would indicate to you if you were actually being vulnerable. If your energy field is being held very close and tight to your body consciousness, no, you are not being open or vulnerable, although you may express that you are for you are allowing another individual to interact with you.
There is a significant difference between allowing another individual to interact with you and being open to that other individual interacting with you, which you all are familiar with in generating situations in which you may be engaging a conversation with another individual and you are allowing the other individual to express themself in their opinion, and within you, you are expressing to yourself, “Well, that is your opinion, and you may have it, and I care not. I disagree with you, and I am not actually listening to you – but you can express yourself. I will not receive it, but I also will not stop you from expressing yourself. And I will express to myself that I am being accepting, for I am allowing you to express.” No, you are not being accepting, and no, you are not being vulnerable. You are not expressing openness. You are merely allowing another individual to express. Are you receiving? No. That is not vulnerability.
When you are confident within yourself, you can afford to be vulnerable, for you are not generating the fear of the threat that there is some hurt. For there is no threat of hurt in genuine vulnerability, in genuine openness, for you are already aware that if there is a hurt, you are creating it, not the other individual.
Now; let me emphasize a point in this – not to say that hurt is not very real, it is, and not to say that feeling hurt is wrong or bad; it is not. Individuals feel hurt many times, even if they know that they themselves are creating that and it is not the fault of another individual. There are time frameworks and situations in which you may present to yourself a significant difference between yourself and another individual, and depending upon that difference and depending upon how invested you are in your own guidelines and your own perception – not that this is wrong; it is not – you may feel hurt, for an aspect of you may grieve in that difference. That is not necessarily generating a judgment of wrong in relation to what the other individual is expressing. What it is expressing is an acknowledgment of your own difference and that the difference itself grieves you, for many times significant differences with individuals creates barriers. It creates a type of separation. Therefore, that is unnatural, and your genuine self knows that.
Therefore, you may feel hurt, but it is not the type of hurt that you define or that you are accustomed to defining. It may feel the same in whether you blame another individual or whether you blame yourself: “I did this to myself; I created this.” It matters not; the hurt is the same, and the hurt is real. That is not a result of vulnerability. For, vulnerability and hurt is an action of threat. There is no threat in genuine vulnerability, for you recognize that no outside source can generate hurtfulness to you unless you allow that; therefore, there is no threat. But hurtfulness can be expressed in your own recognition inwardly of that grieving of separation and a lack of connection when you generate significant differences.
I will express again, this is not bad, and we are not generating utopia in this shift. You are not eliminating all of your feelings, and you are also not replacing all of the feelings that are uncomfortable with all pleasant, joyful feelings. One of the reasons is the very nature of yourselves, your human species. As humans, discomfort is motivating. You strive and strive and strive for comfort, you attain it, and you become complacent with it. You express continuously over and over to myself, “How can I maintain comfort continuously, always, and never experience any discomfort?” Disengage from this reality! (Laughter) For this reality incorporates emotion.
JEREMY: That kind of verges on a creative dilemma, right?
ELIAS: How so?
JEREMY: Well, you create a conflict, but it’s more a beneficial conflict. It’s not a conflict that needs resolving so much. In fact, the resolving would kind of dissipate the creativity that blossoms from it, so it would be a creative dilemma.
ELIAS: Not necessarily. It is dependent upon the individual. Yes, conflicts do blossom into new information and new explorations and experimentations. Are they comfortable? Not necessarily.
NATASHA: Can you stay open during the conflicts?
ELIAS: You can, yes.
NATASHA: How do you recognize that you are open during the conflict or during the discussion or during the conversation and you are disagreeing with your opposite? How do we know that?
ELIAS: You can disagree and not be threatened. When you notice in a conversation, in an interaction in your disagreement, that you are expressing any aspect of defense, you are no longer open, for you are now engaging a threat and you are expressing to that threat with defense. And defense can be expressed in many different capacities.
Defense is not always expressed in the capacity of what you would perceive as protecting yourself, although that is what you are doing. But it can be expressed in a very aggressive manner. You can be motivated to be expressing more strongly in an attempt to convince another individual of your opinion or your point of view or to instruct them in what they do not understand or what you perceive they do not understand or to correct them in what they are interpreting wrong. Any of these expressions are a defense; you are defending your position.
When you are defending your position, you are not being open. You are not being genuine with the other individual. You are not being vulnerable. You are protecting; you are shielding; you are blocking the other individual. You are not allowing yourselves to receive. What you are doing is you are projecting, and generally speaking, you generate that harder and harder and harder until the point that one individual, either yourself or the other, concedes. And in that, you draw stalemates.
NATASHA: Another question that I had previously, how do you make yourself recognize interconnectedness?
ELIAS: That is an excellent question. I would express that it is, for most of you, initially not very easy, for you are manifest in this reality individually, singularly. You are housed in one individual body, and that creates this illusion of separateness. You each incorporate qualities and expressions and identities that are uniquely you. Therefore, that also creates the appearance of another separation and less of an interconnectedness. But energy, once again, is boundless, and although you each incorporate your own unique qualities and expressions and identities in this reality that are individual, your energy is not necessarily individual.
NATASHA: It’s not?
ELIAS: No. Energy is energy, and energy is a product of consciousness. It is a manifestation of consciousness. Consciousness cannot be separated; therefore, energy is not separated. Therefore, what you are interconnected with continuously, always, is energy, and it is not bounded, regardless of space or time. In that, regardless of opinions, regardless of qualities, of talents, of abilities, it matters not. Your energy is all connected.
I will suggest to all of you to experiment. I have suggested previously that you experiment with physically viewing your energy fields, individually or with each other. Beyond viewing energy fields that are more associated with your individual body consciousness, I would suggest an experiment that you can each engage, in merely viewing energy. You will begin to see that regardless of what you are viewing the energy around, be it a chair or plant or your floor or a creature or any object, it blends with all other energy around it.
Your energy is very similar, in a manner of speaking, to your air. Can you find or discover one area in your reality that there is no air?
NATASHA: What about a vacuum?
ELIAS: You can create a vacuum, but there is some aspect of air in the vacuum also, even within space. It is not necessarily air that you breathe, it is not necessarily air in the configuration that you are accustomed to, but it is present. In that, you cannot necessarily touch it, and unlike energy, you cannot necessarily see air unless it is colored with some other gas. You need no gas to see an energy field or to see energy at all. It is visible without any colorance; it colors itself.
ELLA: If I focus on anyone in this room, I could perceive an exchange of energy without necessarily seeing anything?
ELLA: But I could use the other senses...?
ELIAS: Yes, even without visually seeing – although you can visually see it, also – you can feel it. In this, you can experiment with energy, how interconnected you are, in FEELING energy, and experiment how many times you bump into other energies.
You can feel, if you are paying attention, when you approach any other manifestation. You will bump into its energy. It will be very brief, for immediately they absorb together; they merge. But there is an initial tap that you can feel, if you are paying attention, in which you will notice that you are colliding with another energy. In that, you will also notice how very quickly they merge and intermingle together, just as any other gas mingles with your air and creates patterns.
ELLA: Elias, I would like to ask you, we have observed the trend of what you are discussing right now already for a couple of sessions, so obviously a time has come where you are leading us somewhere. While we are on our journey, still many of us would value what you describe as self-reliance, and there is nothing wrong with it?
ELLA: What you are saying is that maybe we could notice and find the balance between self-reliance and still be interconnected?
ELLA: Is there anything, other than what you just described as that experiment, that you are suggesting for us to do or to notice other than what you have just given?
ELIAS: Listen to other individuals. Pay attention. Question other individuals’ experiences. You will begin to recognize that they are not so dissimilar from your own. As unique as you each are, you are all interconnected, and that shows itself in your experiences and in the similarities in what you do, in how you perceive, in how you feel. Even in situations in which you can present yourself with an individual that you would deem to be extremely mentally disturbed, an individual that you perceive incorporates no conscience, that can express the most heinous actions and not feel remorse, even those individuals feel similarly to all of you in some capacities.
ELLA: So you’re saying to focus on similarities rather than on differences, as much as possible?
ELIAS: As an experiment to recognize that interconnection more, not necessarily in general. I am not expressing the power of positive thinking, and I am not expressing that you entirely consume yourself with positiveness and that therefore you will all recognize your interconnection.
ELLA: Actually, I didn’t mean it this way. I’m just saying that lately – we are all different – but there is a sense that I could value those differences and find similarities almost as a common denominator...
ELLA: ...rather than focus on “you are different; go away.”
ELIAS: And a complement. Yes, you are correct.
HOWIE: Elias, I was wondering if we could get a few moments of elaboration revolving back to the idea of attachment and similar related ideas which I have found in culture, that say attachment or all attachment leads to suffering. In that respect, there’s also the piece of “detachment,” which might be what you were describing as moving away from. That’s something I’m not clear on, and aversion or avoidance and how this all plays into participation or not.
ELIAS: Aversion, avoidance, detaching, these are all actions that individuals generate to be isolating. They are motivated by or stem from the individual discounting themself, not accepting certain aspects of themself, viewing certain aspects of themself as bad or wrong, and therefore not wanting to connect for they already view themselves as being wrong or bad.
Generally speaking, this is another commonality that you do when you perceive yourselves in a particular way. You automatically assume that every other individual will know that too, or will perceive you in that manner also: “I am viewing myself as bad or not adequate, and therefore when I present myself to other individuals, that is what they will see also; that is how they will perceive me.” Or, “If I do not generate this action in a particular manner, other individuals will perceive me as not adequate or as wrong or as not good enough.” The individual themself is already discounting of themself, and therefore, once again, that is the energy they are projecting. Therefore, that is what they will draw to themselves. They will create that attraction, and in many situations, they will match it.
But surprisingly, there are situations in which the individual may be discounting themself but also may incorporate enough value of themself, regardless that they can be discounting themselves, that they will not necessarily reflect from other individuals that they are wrong or they are bad or that they are not good enough. They may reflect to themselves the entire reverse, in which individuals genuinely do appreciate them and express that, regardless that they may not be feeling very well about themselves in any particular time framework.
But once again, that is associated with their experience at that time, what they are experiencing themself, and how they are generating their own judgment of themself in that time framework. Which yes, that does move in conjunction with some attachments, for it may be an individual is judging themself or discounting themself in regard to a relationship or in regard to their employment, and perhaps their opinion and their perception of themself is that they are not generating adequately or not enough in whatever they are doing. There is an aspect of that that is an attachment of either what they have learned or what they have been taught – more so more likely what they have been taught – of how to perform and what is acceptable productivity and what is not acceptable productivity. Therefore, that aspect of the attachment plays into their own discounting of themselves and their own feelings that they are already generating, and it exacerbates that and creates that being expressed even more strongly.
Another point in relation to this is you all are aware that each of you incorporates your core beliefs, your core truths. Most of you have identified what your core truth is, which we have established is your guideline.
Now; that, in this focus, in this reality, is a natural movement. It is not your identity, but it is a natural movement for you, and in that, many times your own natural movement with your own core beliefs or core truth can become intertwined with attachments also. An individual may incorporate a core truth of responsibility and also incorporate an attachment of responsibility. An individual may incorporate a core truth of respect and also incorporate an attachment of how respect is expressed and what it is. An individual may incorporate a core truth of roles or image, and also incorporate attachments that emphasize those. And that can become tricky, for in that, it is a matter of evaluating and discerning “what have I learned in relation to this subject, what have I been taught in relation to this subject, what are my experiences with this subject that influence me, and what is my genuine expression of it?” And there are differences.
An individual may be a naturally supportive individual. That may be an actual natural element of their genuine identity. They genuinely naturally express supportiveness, but they may also incorporate attachments in relation to personal responsibility. That can become confused in being supportive or being instructive to other individuals, for you are incorporating personal responsibility for them and they are not accomplishing well enough, for they are not generating adequately enough and they cannot generate their own choices well enough. Therefore, it is your responsibility to generate the choices for them. That is personal responsibility for other individuals; but you also may naturally express a supportiveness of other individuals.
Some individuals naturally express in their genuine identity actions and expressions of participating and giving. Other individuals may view that individual and express, “This individual incorporates difficulties and problems for they are always giving to other individuals. Obviously, they are not focusing their attention upon themself.” Perhaps not; perhaps they are. And perhaps this is a natural expression that the individual does.
It is a matter of evaluating within each of you. What are you naturally doing? What would you naturally do if you allowed yourself? What would you NOT naturally do if you allowed yourself, as opposed to what you do for this is what you have learned and what you have been taught and this is what your experiences suggest to you? More so, what would you NOT do if you allowed yourself permission to not do?
KEN G.: Is this what you referred to in the past as impulses, or true impulses?
ELIAS: Impulses move in conjunction with that, yes, for impulses are promptings that you present to yourself without thinking and many times without feeling. They are inner promptings. They are not necessarily thought of logically. They are not planned; they are spontaneous. Many times, they are in response to what you may be presenting to yourself.
You may present to yourself an interaction with another individual that is very uncomfortable, and you may generate an impulse to remove yourself. Whether you listen to that impulse or not is a choice. Generally, depending upon the situation, I would express that the impulse may be ignored for it is not what you have learned and it is not what you are taught: “That is rude.”
KEN G.: Are true impulses always from genuineness?
JEREMY: So when you ask for impressions, for people to give their impressions about things all these years, is that your way of saying not to listen to the attachments but to listen more to that genuine identity, like through the interconnectedness of that?
ELIAS: Somewhat. That would be somewhat different from impulses.
Impressions are knowledge that you incorporate that you are not necessarily always objectively aware of but is available to you, and that you know but you are not always thinking of. Therefore, impressions appear to you to be more spontaneous. In actuality, they are not, for you already possess the information. It is merely a matter of listening to the information that you already possess.
Impulses are promptings. Those are actions, and those are generally spontaneous. They are not planned. They are not already stored, so to speak. They are not an action that is calculated, in a manner of speaking. They are inner promptings in a moment in association with whatever probabilities you are engaging in that moment and whatever is the most beneficial to you in that moment, which is also another reason that generally many of you do not listen to them. Your thinking overrides them, and your intellect expresses that you know more than your impulses.
PAT B.: Where does a twinge come in?
ELIAS: That would be very similar in certain capacities to impulses, but twinges can also be associated with intuition or impressions.
PAT B.: Whenever I have a twinge, I usually can look at it and say I made a judgment.
ELIAS: It is information that you already possess, and it is being brought to your objective attention. You prompt yourself, in a manner of speaking, which could be termed to be a twinge, in which there is information that you know.
PAT B.: It’s always a judgment? Every time you have a twinge, are you making a judgment? Or am I wrong there?
ELIAS: Not necessarily, for I would express that for the most part whatever you are expressing you are attaching some type of a judgment to. That is the difference between the belief system of duplicity and the other belief systems. Duplicity is the one belief system that attaches itself to ALL of the belief systems. It attaches itself to all actions and all that you do, whether it be...
PAT B.: And a twinge is part of that duplicity.
ELIAS: It can be, yes.
LYNDA: I swear I’m not feeling responsible, but we have to close up.

(1) Paul’s note: Elias refers to an exercise he presented that deals with more efficient ways to use our energy fields – allowing energy to penetrate or be buffered according to our choices (after all, we do create our own realities!)
(2) Paul’s note: the following are the ten primary belief systems (memes) according to Elias. He adds that there are many, many, many aspects within each belief system. However, they are not discrete, separated parts, but primary aspects (holons) that work together seamlessly within objective and subjective awareness. They also overlap. For example, aspects of the belief system of duplicity are present, in varying degrees, in each of the other nine (originally presented in session 364, February 24, 1999):
Together, these primary belief systems form a worldview typology that we can track over the course of a lifetime. From the body “level” we can track them through the stages of infancy, childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Combined with the mental “level,” we can also track them through various preconventional, conventional, postconventional, and wider stages.
Examples of existing typologies include the Myers-Briggs and the Enneagram. In our integral conscious creation model, they are systemic snapshots of overall traits within the collective body/mind in relation to individual body/minds through time.
According to Elias, the ten belief systems are inherent within the “blueprints” of our dimension (what Wilber calls “involutionary givens”). Every focus personality participating in a simultaneous cycle of manifestation translates this typology in an intentional, cultural, social, and behavioral context. Thus, the pattern of evolution is unique to every individual though measurable to some degree.
Moreover, these typologies are never set in stone – they are latent potentialities that evolve in Framework 1 terms. Their counterparts – blueprints, Source Events, and other “involutionary givens” – are also dynamic aspects of Frameworks 2, 3, 4. Together, they provide more complete snapshots in any given moment point as we explore science, art, and morals in body, mind, and spirit.
Other typologies introduced by Elias to date include:
(3) Paul’s note: notice how Elias continually reinforces the idea of the simultaneous perspective of subjective awareness whenever I articulate things in too linear or objective a fashion. So even though I incorporate various psychological stage models that are readily apparent from decades of research, Elias reminds us that since all belief systems already exist in the blueprints (as “involutionary givens”) before we’re born, they can’t possibly evolve in terms of developmental stages.
However, he concedes that our preferences or expressed preferred beliefs do change-in-time. So that is all we’re mapping with our stage models. This serves as a reminder that it’s important to include subjective and intersubjective perspectives in our theories, models, and storylines. Otherwise, we map only the tips of the icebergs and reduce all submerged aspects to tip status. The result is a woefully incomplete map!
(4) Paul’s note: Elias has stated that the shift in consciousness with be complete by the third quarter mark of the twenty-first century.
“This shift in consciousness began at the turn of this present [twentieth] century and has been building throughout this century. You approach your new [twenty-first] century and the beginning of your new millennium, and within this coming century, approximately within its three-quarter mark, this shift in consciousness shall be accomplished in its fullness, and your reality shall be very different than what you view presently. ALL of your reality shall be different.” [session 284, May 30, 1998]
(5) Paul’s note: developmental psychologists use the basic stages of preconventional, conventional, and postconventional as a general way to describe various mental abilities that develop in concert with body stages (e.g., morals, cognition, emotions, sexual, self-needs, self-identity, logical-mathematic, linguistic, musical, etc. through infancy, childhood, adolescence, and adulthood).
However, every focus personality begins at stage 1, or preconventional during infancy. So even after the completion of the shift in consciousness, all children will still be born at the preconventional stage 1 and develop from there.
What’s significant is that Elias hints that the preconventional stages themselves will morph and accelerate into conventional, postconventional, post-postconventional, and so on (since there is no set end point to this overall unfolding-in-time). Therefore, none of these general stages are ever set in stone, but are subject to the continual dynamics of evolution (Framework 1) and involution (Frameworks 2,3,4).
Based upon what Elias says here, we should be able to monitor the unfolding of the shift in consciousness during the next eighty to one hundred years. In other words if what Elias says is true, then we should be able to systemically track on a global scale the rates of change in sample populations using continually refined integral methodologies.
