New Spanish Section in Progress
Thanks to the hard work of Olga Zuvic, Crizi Poust, George DeMello, and Gerhard Fuchs we’re working on adding a Spanish section to the Elias forum website. As most know, Spanish is spoken by more folks than English, so this work will make Elias available to hundreds of millions of potential new readers.
Olga and George are doing most of the translation work, and George is busy translating key webpages for the Introduction section that organize all the Transcripts and Digests. Many thanks to all of you!
Archive Project Updates
The DVD Archive is one of those “behind the scenes” projects whose goal is to ensure that the legacy of the Elias forum continues long after we’re gone. At last count, Mary had recorded over 1,800 sessions on videotape, and recently began recording direct to DVD. Since DVDs take up less space, we began to transfer the ’95 sessions from Ron and Cathy Churchman’s video archive. We’ve finished through session 464. Michael Friedman recently volunteered to continue the DVD process, and Ron has begun to send him tapes. Thanks Michael!
The 1995 transcripts are one third done, as we have finished through session 21. That means only 42 more to go!

Gem of the Month
The Gem of the Month is a regular feature that provides an excerpt from a recent transcript that captures a snapshot of essential Elias.
This month’s gem is taken from Jim’s private session:
JIM: “I’m re-reading Seth books and I’ve just gone through one that the first time I read it I was quite impressed. This time I’ve gone through and I see conflicts with what you’ve said. I favor what you’ve said over what he’s got there. I don’t understand that, why it was good the first time and not the second.
ELIAS: Let me express to you, first of all, within the time framework in which you initially engaged that information from that essence, it offered you an avenue in which to expand your awareness in a different manner.
Now; you have been generating that action for quite some time. In creating that action and offering yourself more and more information, you have also moved into a preference of assimilating information with less distortion and less interpretation.
Now; this is not to say that the information that was offered by that essence is not valid, for it is. At times, I may express to you, individuals may misinterpret what has been offered in information by that essence in incorporating the information in absolute terms. Therefore, they may not necessarily incorporate an objective understanding of the coloration of that information. It is not that it is invalid or that it is wrong, for it is not; but that essence incorporated a different essence family, a different intent [Sumari], and therefore chose to be expressive in a very different manner than myself [Sumafi].
I choose to be interactive directly with individuals within your physical dimension. I also choose intentionally to be offering information which does not necessarily reinforce your existing expressed beliefs. Not that your beliefs are bad or that they are enemies or that they should be eliminated, but they are quite familiar to you.
In the purpose of interacting with each of you in association with this shift in consciousness, the point is to allow yourselves to expand your perception and to recognize your beliefs – not merely to recognize your beliefs, but to recognize that you also incorporate choice and how to move your attention. If you are offering yourself information that merely consistently reinforces what you incorporate already as expressed beliefs, you do not necessarily challenge yourself to widen your awareness. This is what you are incorporating in assimilating the information that I am offering.
For the most part, it is quite similar to other information which is offered by other essences and has been offered by other essences. I am merely incorporating the information in a different manner and incorporating a different language, so to speak. Those individuals that seek to be assimilating information in the least expression of distortion and are genuinely seeking information concerning how they may be creating their reality and how they may be intentionally manipulating their energy in not merely a beneficial manner but a more efficient and less conflicting manner, those individuals draw themselves, such as yourself, to the information that I am expressing. Are you understanding?
JIM: That sounds very Sumafi to me. (Elias laughs) One of the things that crosses my mind once in a while is why should I bother working with the beliefs and trying to widen my horizon if I’m going to trip over the threshold into disengagement fairly shortly? It’ll all happen then.
ELIAS: Ah! This is an interesting question. But it may be quite purposeful for you to be continuing to address to your beliefs, for what you accomplish within physical focus allows you more freedom once you disengage, for you widen your awareness. Therefore, once you choose to be disengaging, you also incorporate a wider awareness objectively in that state.
Therefore, perhaps as you move into that choice of disengagement and if you are generating a time framework in which you are experimenting with the objective awareness and creating physical imagery, the time framework, so to speak, in which you become aware that you are manipulating all of the imagery is much quicker.
JIM: Yes, I can see that.
ELIAS: This also facilitates the action of nonphysical transition. For the more that you incorporate the action of recognizing and accepting beliefs within physical focus, the less challenging or what you may term to be time consuming it may be to be shedding those beliefs.
For once a belief is accepted, that is not to say that it becomes permanently accepted, for it does not; for you accept beliefs in the moment. But once you have generated the action of accepting beliefs in any moment, you become much more aware of the experience of that action and it becomes easier.
Therefore, once you engage nonphysical transition, as it is not an action of accepting beliefs any longer but shedding those beliefs, the beliefs that you have allowed yourself to be accepting of in different moments within physical focus become beliefs that are easily shed, for there is no matter of examination of them and addressing to them.
JIM: That makes sense. (Elias chuckles) I don’t know if I’ve accepted beliefs or not. I don’t know how to word it, but I think I’ve made some progress.
ELIAS: I may express to you that in certain moments you have accepted some beliefs and continue to do so. Remember, accepting a belief is not an action that is incorporated once and thusly becomes solid, absolute and permanent, for that negates choice. Therefore, it is a matter of accepting a belief in the moment.
You shall recognize your expression of acceptance of a belief as you present it to yourself in any manner, perhaps through an engagement of interaction with another individual, and as you present the belief to yourself, you are not reactive to it. It genuinely does not incorporate any judgment within you and it matters not. You do not react to it in a manner of judgment in either good or bad.
JIM: I think I’m making progress in that direction. I don’t feel very judgmental. In fact, I judge myself for not judging, I guess.
ELIAS: (Laughs) That may appear to be quite ludicrous! Would this not be the point, to be moving into an expression of non-judgment? It appears to be quite humorous to be judging yourself for not judging! Ha ha ha!
JIM: Humor is the way to go, I’ve found. The more humor I can inject, the better.
ELIAS: This does offer you much more of an expression of playfulness and fun! Ha ha ha!
JIM: It does.
ELIAS: Which I am tremendously advocating. Ha ha!
JIM: Yes, I know. It’s one of the enjoyable things about your sessions.” [session 1343, May 15, 2003]

Monthly Musings - The Ten Beliefs Systems: Religion/Spirituality
Last month we took a break from our series to honor the passing of our friend Daryl Horton. This month we return to our exploration of the ten core belief systems that Elias introduced in March 1999 with a focus on the eighth system: religion/spirituality.
It’s interesting that Elias makes a distinction between religion and spirituality, as this reflects trends in the mainstream. In general, we think of religious and metaphysical beliefs as being more traditional, conservative, and distorted, and spiritual beliefs being more progressive, less dogmatic, and less distorted. In this context, we tend to perceive religious and metaphysical beliefs as “bad” and spiritual beliefs as “good.”
However, I’d like to point out another distinction that applies to both religious and spiritual beliefs, namely, there are exoteric and esoteric versions of both. Exoteric is a fancy word that broadly means “outer” and esoteric broadly means “inner.” Seen in this light, exoteric religious and spiritual beliefs refer to the physical clothing, icons, rituals, foods, books/scriptures/tantra/sutra, and so on. While esoteric religious and spiritual beliefs refer to our subjective, direct first person inner experience of Self or Consciousness.
For example, Elias’ essence families are an exoteric spiritual belief, while our direct experience of our intent forms esoteric beliefs. All of this to suggest that the simple distinction of religious and spiritual beliefs as bad and good is actually an older exoteric religious belief! And Elias has stated repeatedly that the action of this shift in consciousness involves the redefining of many terms and beliefs.
So what does Elias have to say about all this? Let’s begin with his definition of spirituality.
Well, that was a mouthful! But seriously, notice that Elias integrates a group of important concepts in his answer: duplicity, perception, separation, and acceptance. He points out that we as a focus, and essence, and consciousness occupy ALL areas of consciousness, so our idea of spiritual development in physical terms to attain new levels is erroneous. So what is really going on then?
We experience change, development, regression, and so on in our constant becoming in this physical dimension. But if we exist “always already” (to quote a Buddhist concept) in ALL levels or Regional Areas of consciousness, then we are “always already” spiritual beings. But in terms of physical development, what if religious beliefs are just a natural stage we all must past through? This would mean, then, that we each still hold certain aspects of religious beliefs.
Elias says we are spiritual beings by default, and that there is no more real reality than the one we create. So in terms of spirituality or religion, there is nothing to attain in the conventional premodern sense. And yet we do experience change, and in physical terms stages of development that generally unfold from preconventional to conventional to postconventional. How do those relate to our spiritual and religious beliefs, and further, to the shift in consciousness?
So one way to conceptualize this shift is through physical stages of development that lead from conventional toward postconventional and wider belief systems. And thus our religious and spiritual belief systems, while they won’t ever be eliminated, will continued to widen to include greater complexity and pluralistic worldviews. Therefore, the shift isn’t so much a spiritual or religious event because we are already spiritual as preconventional focuses! It’s just that the narrowness or lack of development in those stages lead to all kinds of exoteric (outer) religious and spiritual beliefs that seek to deny, marginalize, and repress all dissenting views. So widening awareness, another key Eliasian concept, factors into this mass movement from preconventional to conventional and further into postconventional worldviews.
Also, as Elias points out, this doesn't mean that postconventional worldviews will be utopian or final in any fashion. They will just be able to solve problems and deal with issues in more efficient and holistic ways than narrower religious and scientific worldviews. Moreover, this may lead toward a hybrid of the best practices of current sciences and religions, but won’t be recognizable in its postconventional and wider forms as either. It will be something completely new, and we are witnessing its birth pangs during this twenty-first century. Still, as we look around today, we can see the conflicts from fragmented and competing modern religious and scientific institutions that may continue for decades to come.
And it will only be when both religious and scientific beliefs are seen as “expressions of one creation” that this postmodern, postconventional “dream-art science,” to use Seth’s phrase, will emerge. And I believe this to be one most probable outcome of this shift in consciousness during the next century.
Now, we’ve covered a lot of ground! But this belief system of religion and spirituality is a BIG, as Vic used to say, BIG belief system. So for this month, we are going to apply our noticing practice (NIRAA) to religious and spiritual beliefs in relation to this shift. For the first week, simply notice during the day when religious or spiritual beliefs arise in your awareness. Nothing further, simply notice them arise. The key for the first week is to mindfully practice noticing. The goal is to hone our attention by noticing. This is a passive part of the practice. Resist the temptation to actively engage your thought process.
Then, during the beginning of the second week, reflect back on the first week in toto, and explore the frequency of religious and spiritual beliefs. Were there times when you noticed them that surprised you? (If you are really doing the noticing, this should happen ;-) What different contexts did they occur in? Etc. Notice, that we’ve moved into the identifying and recognizing part of our NIRAA practice. See how seamless this works?
Now, for the rest of the second week, simply continue to notice, identify and recognize what religious and spiritual beliefs arise in your awareness. Don’t worry about addressing to or accepting. This is a BIG area. As usual, don’t go crazy, simply do the practice for 5-10 minutes throughout each day, and let it go at that. The basic idea, as always, is to notice self in relation to others, and be consistent with the practices. With a little persistence, you will begin to notice how important the belief system of religion and spirituality is in understanding how we actually create all our reality.
