<  ferris wheel: noticing how and when we hold attention outside of self  >

ELIAS: “… it may be quite beneficial to you to not merely be holding your attention in the now, but also to be allowing yourself to notice in the now HOW you are holding your attention and WHEN you are holding your attention outside of yourself, for this offers you the opportunity to turn your attention.

If you are not recognizing when your attention is outside of yourself, you also do not offer yourself the opportunity to turn your attention. Therefore, it is significant that in addition to holding your attention within the now that you also recognize what direction your attention is being placed in, in that now.

MICHAEL: I’ll concentrate on that.

ELIAS: This may be an interesting exercise for you to be incorporating. For I may express to you, you are allowing yourself more of an awareness in holding your attention in the now much more frequently and much more consistently, and therefore this is becoming less difficult and less challenging than it has been previously. You may express to yourself many times, ‘I am recognizing that my attention is in the now. I am not projecting my attention futurely or pastly. I am not anticipating, and I am not recalling,’ BUT you may be holding your attention outside of yourself, and not necessarily recognizing that action.

MICHAEL: That’s interesting how it’s a continual evaluation and acceptance and movement. You’re right, everything is in change all the time.

ELIAS: You are allowing yourself to move into more intimate layers of yourself, and in this, you continue to move towards the center of the Ferris Wheel [explained below].

MICHAEL: Thank you.

ELIAS: You are very welcome, my friend.” [session 797, March 14, 2001]

Comments (1)

JOE: “So I guess, unless there’s something else that you’d like to explain about remembrance or anything that we’ve talked about today, we’ll end this session, and I’ll see you next time.

ELIAS: I shall be offering to you this day – in the recognition that this shall also be offered to many other individuals and shall be shared amongst you in information – an analogy which I have offered recently to another individual, but shall not be offered in sharing collectively, objectively with other individuals. (2)

Therefore, in an offering of a type of explanation addressing to the experience that many, many individuals are creating presently in conjunction with this shift in consciousness and their redefining of their reality and the confusion and the conflict that they may be experiencing in their movement, I shall offer to you a small analogy to be addressing to individuals in what they are creating presently, and how they may offer themselves an opportunity to turn their attention slightly and alter their perception in how they are viewing their reality in the midst of the conflict that they are experiencing, for many individuals are experiencing expressions of conflict presently.

And in this, their attention in questioning moves in the direction of how they may be affecting of their conflict, and their assessment of their conflict is that they appear to be moving back and forth upon their hamster wheels, and as they discontinue momentarily from the engagement of their hamster wheel, they also view themselves to be jumping upon it once again, and they are experiencing tremendous frustration, and in this frustration, they also move in the direction of invalidation of self and discounting of self, viewing that they are blocking their own movement or they are not accomplishing efficiently or good enough.

And in this, I offer to individuals, in a different type of identification, an analogy that what you are creating is not necessarily movement from one hamster wheel to another.

What you are creating may be likened to what you term as a ferry wheel, or in your language, Ferris Wheel.

Imagine, so to speak, your image of your Ferris Wheel – an immense structure of a wheel with carts, so to speak, or compartments which are placed all about the outer rim.

JOE: Elias, are you talking about a Ferris Wheel?

ELIAS: Yes.

JOE: F-E-R-R-I-S?

ELIAS: Yes, you are correct.

JOE: Okay.

ELIAS: And in this, as you view this immense wheel and all of the carts or compartments that are placed along the outer rim of this wheel, you may view the different expressions of your belief systems, and those that you struggle with in your attempt to be engaging them and your attempt to be identifying and recognizing and addressing to and accepting of them.

All of these compartments along the outer rim of the wheel are these expressions of aspects of your beliefs, and as you place yourself in any one of those compartments upon the outer rim, your vision of the center of the wheel is blocked, and you do not afford yourself a clear view of the center of the wheel.

And in the movement that many individuals are creating presently, they are jumping from one compartment to another upon this wheel.

And my offering of suggestion to you all is that you allow yourselves to turn your attention slightly and not look in front of yourselves, ahead of yourselves, or behind yourselves to the compartments of the outer rim of this wheel, but turn your attention to the side and view the center of the wheel, and allow yourselves to climb out of the compartment and move yourselves down the structure into the center of the wheel, and from the center of the wheel, you may view all of the compartments and all of your reality simultaneously.

This is my offering to you this day, in helpfulness to individuals that are experiencing frustration and conflict presently.

JOE: Okay ... I’ll think about that. Actually, I kind of think that this whole expansion of awareness and everything is going to be quite fun!

ELIAS: Quite! (Joe laughs) But even within the expressions of individuals that are not experiencing conflict, you may also view that you may allow yourselves to view your beliefs much more clearly from the center of the wheel than from the outer rim of the wheel.” [session 537, January 06, 2000]

MIKE: “Okay, this is gonna seem like a strange question to be asking, but I guess from all the spinning, spinning, spinning, and I guess all the tenseness, I guess I’ve gotten so used to it that I don’t even realize what it is anymore. What is it that I’m tensing about? I mean, I’ve lost track of what it is I’m so tense about.

ELIAS: Now; you are beginning to recognize – in this question, in this inquiry – what we are discussing. This has become so very automatic to you, within your objective recognition, that you do not even view what you are creating. And in this, I am acknowledging, for as you allow yourself to be presenting this question, you also allow yourself a slight opening to the response.

Let me express to you, Mikah [Mike] ... and we shall not be rushing! (Mike laughs) I hold an awareness that you are wishing me to be rushing, and I shall not be rushing, for this is familiar to you, and this is the point! (Mike cracks up) You are rushing within yourself. You are spinning within yourself, and you are holding to your energy so very tightly.

I am expressing to you that in this, you have allowed yourself a creation within your focus of concerning yourself with so very many elements outside of yourself that you confuse them with inside of yourself, and you do not even allow yourself to view what ‘inside of yourself’ IS any longer.

Objectively, you have moved so automatically in the viewing of outside that you are not viewing inside, and you fool yourself into the thought process – which you are so very efficient with! (Mike laughs) – in thinking that you are focusing upon self and that you are assimilating information and that you are applying this information to self. For you may interact with other individuals and you may offer information to them, and as you offer information to them, you may be presenting yourself – in surprise – with your enlightened words, (Mike laughs) and you may allow yourself to view the response of the other individuals as they are listening to you, and they are also reinforcing of your assessment, for they shall respond to you in expressions of acknowledgment and recognition that the expressions you offer to them are helpful and enlightening to them also, but they are not enlightening to you! (Mike laughs)

For they are assessments within your thoughts. They are concepts that you allow yourself to intellectually understand. They are expressions that you may offer to other individuals. But it is information that you do not allow yourself to be assimilating within self and turning TO self.

I shall express to you, Mikah [Mike], I have offered an analogy recently, which I shall offer to you also.

In this, what you are experiencing is the movement in jumping from one car upon the outer rim of the Ferris Wheel to another car, and each jump places you in another position upon the outer rim, and what I continue to express to you is to be moving to the center of the wheel. As you continue to be upon the outer rim of this Ferris Wheel, you allow yourself to view all of your scenery, all of your universe, all of the interaction of all other individuals, for you hold a clear view of all that is occurring around you, and you allow yourself to be viewing the particular car that you occupy within any particular moment.

Each car upon the outer rim of this Ferris Wheel may be representative of a particular belief or an action or a situation or an issue, but the one element that you may not view clearly from this position is the center of the wheel. For regardless of how you move yourself upon the outer rim of this wheel or how you lean outside of the car, you may not view the hub of the wheel clearly, for it is held in recess of the wheel, and therefore, as it is positioned inwardly upon this wheel, it is not clearly visible from the outside.

In this, what I am expressing to you is, the movement that you are creating has become automatic to you, and as you are occupying the wheel – which is you – you view yourself to be paying attention to you in these automatic movements, and you do not recognize the tension any longer that you are holding, and you do not recognize how you are not relaxing. But how may you be relaxing as you are jumping from one car to another on this outer rim, and attempting to be balancing within the movement of this Ferris Wheel, and viewing all that is outside of this Ferris Wheel simultaneously?

And the one element, once again, that is not viewed is the center, and as you allow yourself to be climbing out of these outer cars and moving yourself down the beams into the center, you may view all of your universe. You may view all of the interactions of all other individuals. You may view all of the cars of the Ferris Wheel upon the outer rim, and you may also view the center, and within the center, you need not be jumping. You may relax, and you may allow yourself to merely move WITH the wheel.

MIKE: Well, how do I go about getting to the center without jumping around still?

ELIAS: By turning your attention slightly, by not concerning yourself so very intensely with all that is occurring outside of you, and by turning your perception to be viewing YOU – your directions, your choices, your desires, your movement, and what motivates your choices. We have engaged this discussion previously, but you have not been listening.

MIKE: Okay, so wouldn’t like viewing my direction and choices and desires and movement and whatsuch, wouldn’t that also be influenced by what’s going on outside around me? I mean, how do I look at my direction and choices if I’m not looking outside of myself?

ELIAS: This is the point. Outside of yourself does not create your reality. It is the reverse. YOU create your reality and are affecting outside of you, not the other way round. (Pause)

MIKE: Okay. Well....

ELIAS: The very question is your example of how you hold your attention and how you view your reality and the direction that you are moving in.

In your expression of your question – how may I be moving in my attention to self without the influence of outside? – this is, in your very questioning, your indication to you that your attention is held outside of you, and as it continues to be held outside of you, you continue to hold to your energy in tension, and as you continue in this tension, you also continue to be creating frustration.” [session 552, January 21, 2000]

ELIAS: (to Helen) “… as to your question of, ‘What is the magic? What is the alchemy that allows you this free flow of energy to be creating your reality without obstacles in relation to your expression of orientation?’ ... which I may express to you as an aside is an insightful question, for this subject of orientation is quite affecting within your reality.

But in response to that questioning of magic, I express to you, the most powerful and the most affecting movement that you may create within an individual focus to be accomplishing this free flow is to be turning your attention to self, familiarizing yourself with self and your automatic, natural free flow of energy; not that which is forced to be fitting into the expressions of other orientations, but the recognition of your own energy and the acceptance of that natural movement outside of comparison, recognizing that you need not be the same in your perception as other individuals, that reality is highly individualized.

Regardless of the illusion that there are absolutes within your reality, the actual expression of your reality, even within physical terms, physical matter, is that you create this reality in a highly individualized expression through your individual unique perception.

Therefore, as each individual turns their attention to self – and I may not be expressing of this point strongly enough, for this is the most affecting action that you may be creating within your physical reality. In turning your attention to self and allowing yourself the acceptance in the action of familiarizing yourself with self and with your individual energy and natural expression of it, you shall also allow yourself an outward AND an inward flow of energy which does not rail against yourself.

HELEN: What I was attempting to do was ….

ELIAS: Let me express to you, the confusion which is expressed and experienced most strongly within the individuals holding the orientation of common is that their natural free flow of energy is to be expressing outwardly within their creations, and what is occurring in the creation of confusion in relation to this orientation is a misunderstanding and a misinterpretation of your reality.

For in one element of your awareness and your identification of your energy in relation to your orientation, you recognize individually that you do create your reality outwardly, and the area in which the confusion is created is that there is a translation formed in this definition, so to speak, of creating outwardly, that essence and consciousness – and that your reality – is also outward.

Therefore, the confusion is within the translation or the misunderstanding that your perception – or that you as essence or consciousness – lies outside of you also, in like manner to how you project outwardly in your creation of your reality.

In this, great challenges and difficulties are experienced by the individuals holding this orientation of common as they attempt to be assimilating information in relation to essence and self and consciousness, for there is an automatic assumption and strength in beliefs that all of these elements lie outside of the manifestation of the individual focus.

This is what creates the beliefs, which are held en masse, and the officially accepted reality or perception en masse, that the physical manifestation within this dimension is lower than or less than universe, higher self, consciousness, essence, god – whichever you choose within your terminology to be identifying that element which you designate as supreme.

In this, there is also an assessment or a defining that the focus is in physical manifestation merely a vessel, the attention of the focus is merely a piece or a part of a greater whole, and that this part of the greater whole is manifest to be learning, for it is incomplete, less than, and lacks in knowledge.

JOE: Elias, can I ask one question here in relation to this?

ELIAS: You may.

JOE: Is this a little bit like trying to get from here to there, and building bridges and knocking down walls, and finding out that we are exactly where we started?

ELIAS: You are correct. Be remembering, Holden [Joe], of my offering of the Ferris Wheel.

HELEN: The Ferris Wheel?

ELIAS: Correct. This is an example in imagery, in an analogy that has been offered as an explanation of how you view yourselves and your reality and how you move in that reality.

You are the Ferris Wheel, and you continue to climb to the outer rim of the Ferris Wheel and hold your attention beyond this Ferris Wheel, watching and looking to all that lies outside of this Ferris Wheel and viewing this all in amazement, but also in confusion at times, for you lack in your understanding objectively of how you may be interactive with all that exists, in a manner of speaking, beyond the Ferris Wheel.

Therefore, you create the compartments or the cars, so to speak, on the outside of the Ferris Wheel, the rim, which are the expressions of your beliefs, and in this, you jump from one to another to another, and you may not view the inner cog from the outer rim.

But as you move yourselves down in the beams and into the center of this wheel, you also allow yourself the ability to be connecting with that which you identify symbolically as the ground, which offers you the bridge to all of the reality that you view to be outside of you – which is in actuality not – and also allows you the ability to view all of self.

I express to you quite definitely, all that you view to be your cosmos, your universe, all that you identify or define or assess to be consciousness and essence, your higher self, your inner self, ANY element that you view to be outside of yourself in greater expression is in actuality the reverse.

HELEN: The reverse? I’m sorry – in actuality is the reverse?

ELIAS: Yes. You ARE all of this. Your planets do not express movement which influences you. You express energy which influences them, for they ARE you. Your patterns within your reality do not influence you. You create them, for they ARE you.

All of the focuses of essence that you may identify as what you define to be as past or future lives, in a manner of speaking, are merely different focuses of attention all occurring simultaneously, and in this, they are all you. They are all present within you NOW. All of essence, all of your universe, all of consciousness is present within you NOW. All that you view is a projection in mirror image of all that you are, not the reverse.

Therefore, you are not aspiring to any thing or any place. You already ARE. What you are creating is a shift in your objective awareness, that which you experience within your waking physical expression of consciousness, and in this shifting, you are allowing yourself the action of the remembrance, and the remembrance is not memory. It is being.

HELEN: It is ...?

ELIAS: Being.

HELEN: Yes.

ELIAS: Therefore, as I have stated, in conjunction with your inquiry of orientation, it behooves you tremendously to be allowing yourself the familiarization with self and your orientation, for this offers you a tremendous volume of information in how you create your reality and how your beliefs are influencing of that reality.

In this, it also offers you explanation in the movement and the workings, so to speak, of your perception, which is the element of you which creates your reality.” [session 573, March 02, 2000]

MICHAEL: “Another question, in regards to San Antonio ... I have a feeling I’m going to find the answer if I look a little harder at it, or if I work a bit on it. I’m trying to figure out why I’ve stayed here, ‘cause I’m not sure I enjoy San Antonio as much as I’d like to go to another place. (Elias chuckles) I’m having a very hard time distracting myself ... or removing myself from San Antonio, though.

ELIAS: You have created a familiarity, and also you have created a safety in that familiarity. Venturing into the change of relocation in physical terms creates an apprehension within you, for you create many doubts as to your ability to be creating a reality that you want if you are altering many aspects of your reality, and within your assessment if you are creating a physical relocation of yourself, you shall be creating upheaval within your focus, for many other aspects of your focus shall change also. This is not necessarily the situation, but this is a reality within you, for this is your association.

MICHAEL: Quite true. Why is there so much fear throughout everything? It seems like there’s so much. There I go, asking ‘why’ again! (Laughs, and Elias laughs)

ELIAS: And I may express to you, my friend, for the most part fear may be identified and sought out within individuals within your physical dimension as a discounting and a doubting of your abilities, a discounting and a doubting of your worth, therefore discounting of yourself and denying your choices, expressing to yourself that you cannot accomplish.

This, in simplicity, is how you shall identify and seek out the nature of fear in the recognition of these expressions within self. As you create doubt of your abilities in creating your reality, and you deny your choices to yourself and you create a lack of trust, you also many times create expressions of fear.

Individuals express many, many, many times that you incorporate a fear of change. It is not the change that creates the expression of fear. Change is the nature of reality. Change is the nature of consciousness. Consciousness itself is in continuous movement of change. You within physical focus are in continuous movement of change.

Change is not the impetus of fear. It is your perception of yourself and your abilities in relation to change that creates the expression of fear, your doubt of yourself that you may be incorporating change in any particular manner efficiently, beneficially, and in acknowledgment of your abilities. The incorporation of this doubt and the lack of trust is the impetus for fear.

Physical movement, your example: why shall you prevent yourself from creating a physical change of your physical location in which you reside? Ah! I may express to you, you may offer yourself MANY examples of what you doubt in what you anticipate in change. Many of these anticipated changes may not necessarily need be incorporated, but your doubt of yourself and your lack of trust of self and your automatic expectation that one change also triggers many other changes creates your doubt of yourself in your abilities. If you are to be relocating, you anticipate that you also shall need be reconfiguring your work.

MICHAEL: Very true.

ELIAS: You shall incorporate alterations in your relationship. You shall need be incorporating adjustment to new environment. This shall be affecting of your relationship with your partner. This shall create upheaval within yourself and your ability to cope. You shall create a necessity for additional work to be reconfiguring your business and beginning once again in new location.

These are not necessarily expressions that all must be incorporated in relation to one action of physically relocating your residence, but these are the automatic associations that you create, and therefore in your doubt of yourself and your apprehension of your abilities to be efficiently creating all of these changes simultaneously, you express the choice to remain in the location that you have chosen presently, for it provides you with a safety.

If you choose to be altering certain aspects of your focus – of your relationship, of your movement, of your business, of your friendships – you may incorporate those choices singularly in the time frameworks that you view yourself to be adequately prepared.

But once again, in similar expression to your association with planes, a movement such as relocation of residence shall create an action of you thrusting yourself into the role of victim, once again, of outside influences and expectations. In actuality, the expression is created in relation to yourself, and becoming victim to yourself and your own expectations and anticipations and anxieties and associations and beliefs in relation to this type of movement.

MICHAEL: I’m starting to get imagery that the lenses we were talking about before ... in a sense, I’m creating this reality and forcibly holding a fear lens on top of it. (Laughs)

ELIAS: And I may express to you, my friend, how wondrously clear you may view through your perception if choosing to remove that particular lens. (Smiling)

MICHAEL: I’d very much like to. I think I’m going to continue working on my understanding of mirror imagery and self acceptance and awareness.

ELIAS: This shall be quite helpful to yourself. I am recognizing that you are allowing yourself the awareness and the noticing of how other elements of your reality and other individuals create an efficient reflection to you, expressing an identification of what YOU are creating in any particular moment.

MICHAEL: Yes, it’s very much like I’m getting a clearer picture so that I can make new choices based on what I like or don’t like.

ELIAS: Correct! And this is the freedom, offering yourself permission to create what you want in relation to your desires, your preferences, and your appreciation of yourself and what you may be creating, rather than your discounting of yourself or your creations.

MICHAEL: I can see very easily now that being in the moment is extremely helpful, because it seems like the moment I start jumping ahead, starting to see what is going to happen based on where I’m at right now, of course it’s not going to look happy. (Laughing)

ELIAS: I may also express to you, my friend, with the understanding that this is an automatic expression in relation to the orientation of common, it may be quite beneficial to you to not merely be holding your attention in the now, but also to be allowing yourself to notice in the now HOW you are holding your attention and WHEN you are holding your attention outside of yourself, for this offers you the opportunity to turn your attention.

ELIAS: You are allowing yourself to move into more intimate layers of yourself, and in this, you continue to move towards the center of the Ferris Wheel.

MICHAEL: Thank you.

ELIAS: You are very welcome, my friend.” [session 797, March 14, 2001]

End Notes:

(1) Paul’s note: this is a great example of the nonlinear nature of the information offered by Elias. Notice that the actual exercise was delivered over a year after the Ferris Wheel analogy was introduced, and yet, it serves as an excellent place to dive in.

(2) Paul’s note: Elias refers to a private session that will not be made public per the wishes of the participant.
